"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah we are going to meet the enemy tomorrow and we do not have any knives.' The Messenger of Allah said: "If the blood is shed and the name of Allah is mentioned, then eat, unless (it is slaughtered (with teeth or nails, and I will tell you about that. As for teeth, they are bones, and as for nails, they are the knives of the Ethiopians."' (Sahih )

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ ﷻ فَكُلُوا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ سِنًّا أَوْ ظُفْرًا وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفْرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We expect to meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'As long as it causes blood to flow, and Allah's Name has been mentioned over it, then eat it, provided that it was not done with a tooth or nail. And I will tell you why: As for the tooth it is a bone, and as for the nail it is the knife of the Ethiopians.'"

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَتْ مَعَنَا مُدًى فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلُوهُ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ سِنًّا أَوْ ظُفُرًا وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

“We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, we are (sometimes) on military campaigns, and we have no knife with us.’ He said: ‘(Use) whatever causes the blood to flow, mention the Name of Allah and eat, but (do not use) teeth or nails, for the tooth is a bone and the nail is the knife of the Ethiopians.”

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نَكُونُ فِي الْمَغَازِي فَلاَ يَكُونُ مَعَنَا مُدًى فَقَالَ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلْ غَيْرَ السِّنِّ وَالظُّفْرِ فَإِنَّ السِّنَّ عَظْمٌ وَالظُّفْرَ مُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah we are going to meet the enemy tomorrow and we do not have any knives.' The Messenger of Allah said: "If the blood is shed and the name of Allah is mentioned, then eat, unless (it is slaughtered (with teeth or nails, and I will tell you about that. قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ فُكُّوا مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ سِنٌّ وَلَا ظُفُرٌ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

[Machine] We were raiders with the Prophet ﷺ when a man from the group said, "O Messenger of Allah, tomorrow we will surprise the enemy and we do not have any axes or picks with us. Shall we slaughter with the mayja and the marwa?" He ﷺ said, "Yes, mention the name of Allah upon it and everything except the canine tooth and the hoof. As for the canine tooth, it is a bone, and as for the hoof, it is the mayja of the Abyssinians."

كُنَّا غَزَاةً مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نُصَبِّحُ الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ وَالْمَرْوَةِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ اذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَكُلْ إِلَّا السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ فَأَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we will encounter the enemy tomorrow and we do not have any food to eat except meat. Should we mention the name of Allah over it?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If blood is flowing and the name of Allah has been mentioned over it, then you may eat it except for what is from the tooth or nail, as the tooth is bone from a human and the nail is dung from an Abyssinian animal."

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا لَاقُو الْعَدُوِّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَتْ مَعَنْا مُدًى أَنُذَكِّي بِاللِّيطِ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ عَلَيْهِ اسْمُ اللهِ فَكُلُوا إِلَّا مَا كَانَ مِنْ سِنٍّ أَوْ ظُفُرٍ فَإِنَّ السِّنَّ عَظْمٌ مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ وَالظُّفُرَ مُدَى الْحَبَشِ

"كُلُّ شَيءٍ أنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكرَ اسْمُ الله عَلَيه فكُلُوهُ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ سنًّا أوْ ظُفْرًا، فَإِنَّ السِّن عَظْمٌ، وَإِنَّ الظُّفُرَ مُدَى الحَبَشَةِ".
