The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them stand up and pray."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of someone but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them offer the prayer."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's death or life but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah, so pray whenever you see them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

On the day of Ibrahim's death, the sun eclipsed and the people said that the eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So when you see them, invoke Allah and pray till the eclipse is clear."

رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ وَصَلُّوا حَتَّى يَنْجَلِيَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's death or life (i.e. birth), but they are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. So, if you see them (i.e. eclipse) offer the (eclipse) prayer.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone's death or life. So, if you see them (i.e. eclipse), celebrate the Praises of Allah (i.e. pray).

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "the sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life of someone, but they are two signs amongst the Signs of Allah. So, if you see them, offer the Prayer (of eclipse).

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah by which He frightens his servants and they do not eclipse on account of the death of any one of the people. So when you see anything about them, observe prayer, supplicate Allah till it is cleared from you.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ يُخَوِّفُ اللَّهُ بِهِمَا عِبَادَهُ وَإِنَّهُمَا لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا فَصَلُّوا وَادْعُوا اللَّهَ حَتَّى يُكْشَفَ مَا بِكُمْ

Verily the sun and the moon do not eclipse on account of the death of any one of the people, but they are the two signs among the signs of Allah. So when you see it, stand up and observe prayer.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَيْسَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا

Verily the sun and the moon do not eclipse on account of the death or life of anyone. They are in fact the signs among the signs of Allah. So when you see them, observe prayer.

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَةٌ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

I heard Mughira b. Shu'ba saying that the sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day when Ibrahim died. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse on account of the death of anyone or on account of the birth of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate Allah, and observe prayer till it is over.

سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ وَصَلُّوا حَتَّى يَنْكَشِفَ

There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came out bewildered pulling his garment, and I was in his company at Medina. He prayed two rak'ahs and stood for a long time in them. He then departed and the sun became bright. He then said: There are the signs by means of which Allah, the Exalted, produces dread (in His servants). When you see anything of this nature, then pray as you are praying a fresh obligatory prayer.

كُسِفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأَطَالَ فِيهِمَا الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَانْجَلَتْ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ الآيَاتُ يُخَوِّفُ اللَّهُ بِهَا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلاَةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ

The sun and the moon are not eclipsed on account of anyone's death or on account of anyone's birth. So when you see that, supplicate Allah, declare His greatness, and give alms.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لاَ يُخْسَفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ ﷻ وَكَبِّرُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The sun and moon are two signs of Allah (SWT), the Most High, and they do not become eclipsed for death or birth of anyone, rather Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, strikes fear into His slaves through them.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يُخَوِّفُ بِهِمَا عِبَادَهُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The sun and moon do not become eclipsed for death or birth of anyone, rather they are two of the signs of Allah (SWT) the Most High, so when you see that then pray."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The sun and the moon do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone, rather they are two of the signs of Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, so when you see that then pray.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ﷻ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The sun and moon are two signs of Allah ﷺ, and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that then pray until it (the eclipse) is over.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ﷻ وَإِنَّهُمَا لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ

"The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he rushed out, dragging his cloak until he came to the masjid. He continued leading us in prayer until the eclipse ended. When it ended, he said: 'People claim that the eclipse of the sun and moon only happen when a great man dies, but that is not so. Eclipses of the sun and the moon do not happen for the death or birth of anyone, but they are signs from Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime. When Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him, so if you see that then pray like the last obligatory prayer you did before that.'"

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ فَزِعًا حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُصَلِّي بِنَا حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ فَلَمَّا انْجَلَتْ قَالَ إِنَّ نَاسًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ إِلاَّ لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْعُظَمَاءِ وَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ﷻ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ إِذَا بَدَا لِشَىْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلاَةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ

"There was an eclipse of the sun and at the time we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Al-Madinah. He rushed out dragging his garment and prayed two rak'ahs, which he made lengthy. The end of his prayer coincided with the end of the eclipse. He praised and glorified Allah (SWT), then he said: 'The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah (SWT), and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see anything of that, then pray like the last obligatory prayer you did before that.'"

كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَنَحْنُ إِذْ ذَاكَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ أَطَالَهُمَا فَوَافَقَ انْصِرَافُهُ انْجِلاَءَ الشَّمْسِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّهُمَا لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلاَةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The sun and the moon do not become eclipsed for the death of anyone among mankind. If you see that, then stand and perform prayer.”

رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا

“The sun was eclipsed at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he came out alarmed, dragging his lower garment, until he reached the mosque. He continued to perform prayer until the eclipse was over, then he said: ‘Some people claim that the sun and moon only become eclipsed because of the death of a great leader. That is not so. The sun and the moon do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. When Allah manifests Himself to anything in His creation, it humbles itself before Him.’”

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ إِلاَّ لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْعُظَمَاءِ وَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا تَجَلَّى اللَّهُ لِشَىْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death of someone from the people but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them stand up and pray." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1041)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَيْسَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا»

[AI] The sun was eclipsed, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed and his prayer was narrated by Ibn Abbas that he ﷺ prayed two units (rak'ahs) in each unit (rak'ah), then he gave them a sermon and said, "Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse for the death or life of any person. So, when you witness that, hasten to the remembrance of Allah."

خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَحَكَى ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ صَلَاتَهُ ﷺ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَهُمْ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The sun and moon do not become eclipsed for death or birth of anyone, rather they are two of the signs of Allah (SWT) the Most High, so when you see that then pray." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1461)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَةٌ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's death or life but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah, so pray whenever you see them." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1057)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ قَالَ يَزِيدُ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ تَعَالَى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

[AI] The sun darkened at the time of the death of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when Ibrahim died. The people said, "The sun has darkened due to the death of Ibrahim." The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are signs from Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, pray and supplicate to Allah."

كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ كَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَةٌ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا وَادْعُوا اللهَ ﷻ

[AI] The sun set, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out and performed two units of prayer. He recited in them for a long time until the twilight disappeared. He then said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, by which He frightens His servants. So when you see that, pray as if you are praying the most recent prayer you have performed from the obligatory prayers."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأَطَالَ فِيهِمَا الْقِرَاءَةَ فَانْجَلَتْ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ يُخَوِّفُ بِهِمَا عِبَادَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلَاةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ

[AI] Indeed, the sun eclipsed on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, passed away. The people thought that it had eclipsed due to his death. Then the Prophet ﷺ stood up and said, "O people, indeed the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse due to the death or life of anyone. So, when you witness this, stand up for prayer, remember Allah, supplicate, and give in charity."

أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ كَسَفَتْ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَظَنَّ النَّاسُ أَنَّمَا انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِهِ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَقُومُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَإِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَادْعُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا»

There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He came out bewildered pulling his garment, and I was in his company at Medina. He prayed two rak'ahs and stood for a long time in them. He then departed and the sun became bright. He then said: There are the signs by means of which Allah, the Exalted, produces dread (in His servants). When you see anything of this nature, then pray as you are praying a fresh obligatory prayer. كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَأَطَالَ فِيهِمَا الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَانْجَلَتْ فَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ الْآيَاتُ يُخَوِّفُ اللَّهُ بِهَا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا يَعْنِي فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلَاةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ»

[AI] "The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so he said, 'Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. So when you see them, give charity, pray, glorify Allah, and supplicate to Him.'"

خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَنْخَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَتَصَدَّقُوا وَصَلُّوا وَكَبِّرُوا وَادْعُوا اللَّهَ»

[AI] I heard Al-Mugheerah bin Shu'bah say that the sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day Ibrahim, may Allah's peace be upon him, died. So the people said, "The sun has been eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily the sun and the moon are signs among the signs of Allah, they do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. So when you see them, supplicate to Allah and perform prayer until it becomes clear."

سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَادْعُوا وَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The sun and moon do not become eclipsed for death or birth of anyone, rather they are two of the signs of Allah (SWT) the Most High, so when you see that then pray." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1461)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا»

[AI] "The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The sun and the moon do not eclipse due to someone's death or life. So if you see anything from that, then pray until it becomes clear or Allah brings about a matter.'"

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ شَيْئًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ أَوْ يُحَدِّثَ اللَّهُ أَمْرًا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. So when you see that, haste to perform the prayer."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] When Ibrahim bin Rasul Allah ﷺ died, the sun was eclipsed. The people said that the sun was eclipsed because of Ibrahim's death, the son of Rasul Allah ﷺ . Rasul Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life. So when you see that, then pray until it clears."

لَمَّا مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ابْنِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of someone but they are two signs amongst the signs of Allah. When you see them offer the prayer." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1042)

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْخَسِفَانُ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا»

[AI] I heard Abu Mas'ud say that the sun was eclipsed on the day that Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , passed away. The people said that the sun was eclipsed due to Ibrahim's death. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are signs from the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or the life of anyone. So when you see that, then hasten to remember Allah and to pray."

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ تُوُفِّيَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللهِ وَإِلَى الصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah, and they do not eclipse due to the death of anyone. So when you see them, pray until it becomes clear."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْجَلِيَ»

[AI] The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Ibrahim's death coincided with it. He said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone, but when you see it happening, then pray."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَوَافَقَ ذَلِكَ مَوْتَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا»

[AI] The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and some people said, "The sun has eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim ﷺ ." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, the sun and the moon do not eclipse due to the death or life of anyone. Rather, they are two signs among the signs of Allah. So, when you see them, invoke Allah and offer prayer."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أُنَاسٌ إِنَّمَا انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا»

Verily the sun and the moon do not eclipse on account of the death of any one of the people, but they are the two signs among the signs of Allah. So when you see it, stand up and observe prayer. (Using translation from Muslim 911b)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَيْسَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَقُومُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, hasten to perform the prayer.'"

رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone, but rather Allah frightens His servants with them." Abu Abdur-Rahman Qatada disagreed with him.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ يُخَوِّفُ بِهِمَا عِبَادَهُ» قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ خَالَفَهُ قَتَادَةُ

[AI] The sun eclipsed on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah, died. The people said, "The sun has eclipsed because of Ibrahim's death." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and to prayer."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللهِ وَإِلَى الصَّلَاةِ

[AI] The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the people said that it had eclipsed due to the death of Ibrahim. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon do not eclipse due to anyone's death or life, but they are two signs from the signs of Allah. So when you see them, then pray."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا

"The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he rushed out, dragging his cloak until he came to the masjid. He continued leading us in prayer until the eclipse ended. When it ended, he said: 'People claim that the eclipse of the sun and moon only happen when a great man dies, but that is not so. Eclipses of the sun and the moon do not happen for the death or birth of anyone, but they are signs from Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime. When Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him, so if you see that then pray like the last obligatory prayer you did before that.'" انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ فَزِعًا يَجُرُّ ثَوْبَهُ حَتَّى أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ يُصَلِّي حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ فَلَمَّا انْجَلَتْ قَالَ إِنَّ نَاسًا يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ إِلَّا لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنَ الْعُظَمَاءِ وَلَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ وَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ إِذَا تَجَلَّى لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا كَأَحْدَثِ صَلَاةٍ صَلَّيْتُمُوهَا مِنَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ هَذَا مُرْسَلٌ أَبُو قِلَابَةَ لَمْ يَسْمَعْهُ مِنَ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ إِنَّمَا

[AI] "From the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that he said: Indeed, the sun and the moon do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone, but they are signs from the signs of Allah. So when you see them, pray."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَةٌ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَصَلُّوا

[AI] I only prayed as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying, and he said, "Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So if you see anything of them as an eclipse, then seek refuge in Allah."

إِنَّمَا صَلَّيْتُ كَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمَا خَاسِفًا فَلْيَكُنْ فَزَعُكُمْ إِلَى اللهِ

[AI] The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they said it had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the mosque and prayed with the people. He said, "O people, the sun and the moon do not eclipse for the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, hasten to the prayer."

انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ
