We came to Madinah and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing on the minbar addressing the people and saying: "The hand which gives is the upper hand. Start with those for whom you are responsible; your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, then the next closest, and the next closest."

قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ يَدُ الْمُعْطِي الْعُلْيَا وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ مُخْتَصَرٌ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say, 'Indeed, the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin with those whom you provide for. I do not ask you for anything, and I do not refuse any provision that Allah bestows upon me from you.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْيَدَ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَلَسْتُ أَسْأَلُكَ شَيْئًا وَلَا أَرُدُّ رِزْقًا رَزَقَنِيهِ اللهُ مِنْكَ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is the one that gives to your mother, father, sister, and brother, and then to the closest one and the next closest one." A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, are these the children of Yarbu killed by so-and-so?" He said, "No, do not let one soul take revenge on another soul."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَدُ الْمُعْطِي الْعُلْيَا أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَؤُلَاءِ بَنُو يَرْبُوعٍ قَتَلَةُ فُلَانٍ؟ قَالَ أَلَا لَا تَجْنِي نَفْسٌ عَلَى أُخْرَى

"The best of charity is that which is given when you are self-sufficient, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those for whom you are responsible." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2534)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا صَدَقَةَ إِلَّا عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ

"The Messenger of Allah said: "The best kind of charity is that which is given when you are rich, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those for whom you are responsible."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2543)

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ

[AI] And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those whom you are responsible for."

وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ

[AI] I reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and heard him saying, "Be good to your mother, father, sister, and brother, and then those closest to you, those closest to you." And among them

انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «بَرَّ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ» وَمِنْهَا

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى مِنْ حَدِيثِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى وَالسَّرِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا زِيَادٌ هَذَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those who are dependent on you, your mother, father, sister, brother, and closest relative."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ وَأَدْنَاكَ فَأَدْنَاكَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with the one whom you are responsible for, your mother and father, so the closest is the closest."

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ أُمُّكَ وَأَبَاكَ فَأَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ»

"أُمَّكَ وأَبَاك، وأُخْتَكَ وأَخَاكَ، وأَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاك".

"إِنَّ اليدَ العُليَا خيرٌ من اليد السُّفْلَى وابْدَأ بمن تعولُ".

"اليدُ العُليَا خَيرٌ مِنَ اليَد السُّفْلى، وابْدَأ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ".

"اليَد العُليَا خَيرٌ مِنَ اليَدِ السُّفْلَى، أُمَّكَ وأَبَاكَ، وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخاك، ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ فَأدْناكَ".

"تَصَدَّقُوا؛ فَإِن الصَّدَقَةَ خَيرٌ لَكُمْ، وَاليَدُ العُليَا خَيرٌ مِنَ اليدِ

السُّفْلَى، وَابْدَأ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ: أُمَّكَ، وَأَبَاكَ، وَأُخْتَكَ، وَأَخَاكَ، ثُمَّ أدْنَاكَ، فَأدْناكَ، أَلا إِنَّ (أما) لَا تَجْنِى عَلَى وَلَد، ألا إِنَّ أُمًّا لَا تَجْنى عَلَى وَلَد- ثلاثا".

"يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ: الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ اليَدِ السُّفْلَى، وابْدَأ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ، أُمَّكَ وأَبَاكَ، وأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ، وأَدْنَاكَ أدْنَاكَ، أَلا لا تَجْنِي أُمٌّ عَلَى وَلَدِهَا".

"يَدُ المُعْطِى الْعُلْيَا، وَابْدأ بمَنْ تعُولُ: أُمُّكَ وَأَبَاكَ، وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ، ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ أَدْنَاكَ، إِنَّهَا لَا تَجْنِى نَفْسٌ عَلَى أُخْرَى".
