The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us in a detachment and said (to us): If you see a mosque or hear a mu'adhdhin (calling to prayer), do not kill anyone. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2635)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a military expedition, and I was among them. He said, "If you encounter so-and-so and so-and-so, burn them with fire." When the Prophet ﷺ bid us farewell, he said, "I had commanded you to burn them with fire, but it is not appropriate to punish with the punishment of Allah. So, if you encounter them, kill them."

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Allah, bless my Ummah in its early mornings.' And when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would send out a military expedition, he would send them out at the beginning of the day."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a covert mission to be conducted. They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, should we leave tonight or stay until morning?" He replied, "Don't you want to spend the night in one of the gardens of paradise? And the garden is the oasis."

[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "If it were not difficult for my Ummah, I would have loved to never miss out on a secret mission carried out in the cause of Allah. However, I cannot find what I can bear for them, and they cannot find what they can bear for themselves. It burdens them to be left behind after me. If only I could fight in the cause of Allah, be killed, then revived, and be killed again, and revived, and be killed again, and revived."

[Machine] I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a narration that if I were to narrate it one day, I would narrate it today. We were on an expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Tabuk. He sent Khalid ibn Al-Walid with forty riders to Ibn Dumaah Al-Jandal. He said, "If you are able to capture him, then capture him and do not kill him. But if you are unable to capture him, then kill him." They arrived at his fortress and his family said, "He has not left for two months prior to today." They found him hunting, and they were unable to capture him, so they killed him. They brought his armor made of Deebaj to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and his companions were amazed by it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Are you amazed by this? The handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh are softer than it in Paradise."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us in a military detachment and said: ‘Go in the Name of Allah, and in the cause of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not mutilate, do not be treacherous, do not steal from the spoils of war, and do not kill children.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2857)
50.160 [Machine] With what are they commanded?
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say to his army or expedition, "When you see a mosque or hear a call to prayer, do not kill anyone." So the Prophet ﷺ sent us on an expedition and commanded us with that. We set out and traveled through the land of Tihamah. We came across a man driving his sheep, so we presented Islam to him and said, "Are you a Muslim?" He replied, "What is Islam?" We informed him of it, but he did not recognize it. He asked, "If I don't accept Islam, what will you do?" We said, "We will kill you." He asked, "Are you waiting for me to reach my sheep?" We replied, "Yes, we are waiting for you, and we will catch up to you." So, he left and approached a woman who was in her hut and said, "Embrace Islam, Hubaysh, before the means of sustenance are cut off. Embrace Islam nine or eight times in succession, then he said, "Do you remember when I passed by you and found you adorned or when I came to you with false pretenses? Wasn't it right for a lover to go to extremes to enter secret and hidden places even if I am not guilty?" I said, "When we were together, we traveled together, and I embraced you with affection before parting ways. Then the leader is separated from the beloved one, and he approached us and said, "What is your condition? We have killed him, and the other fell on him from her hut, grieving for him until she died."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a Sariya of ten men as spies under the leadership of ʿAsim bin Thabit al-Ansari, the grandfather of ʿAsim bin ʿUmar Al-Khattab. They proceeded till they reached Hadaa, a place between 'Usfan, and Mecca, and their news reached a branch of the tribe of Hudhail called Bani Lihyan. About two-hundred men, who were all archers, hurried to follow their tracks till they found the place where they had eaten dates they had brought with them from Medina. They said, "These are the dates of Yathrib (i.e. Medina), "and continued following their tracks When ʿAsim and his companions saw their pursuers, they went up a high place and the infidels circled them. The infidels said to them, "Come down and surrender, and we promise and guarantee you that we will not kill any one of you" ʿAsim bin Thabit; the leader of the Sariya said, "By Allah! I will not come down to be under the protection of infidels. O Allah! Convey our news to Your Prophet. Then the infidels threw arrows at them till they martyred ʿAsim along with six other men, and three men came down accepting their promise and convention, and they were Khubaib-al-Ansari and Ibn Dathina and another man So, when the infidels captured them, they undid the strings of their bows and tied them. Then the third (of the captives) said, "This is the first betrayal. By Allah! I will not go with you. No doubt these, namely the martyred, have set a good example to us." So, they dragged him and tried to compel him to accompany them, but as he refused, they killed him. They took Khubaid and Ibn Dathina with them and sold them (as slaves) in Mecca (and all that took place) after the battle of Badr. Khubaib was bought by the sons of Al-Harith bin 'Amir bin Naufal bin ʿAbd Manaf. It was Khubaib who had killed Al-Harith bin 'Amir on the day (of the battle of) Badr. So, Khubaib remained a prisoner with those people. Narrated Az-Zuhri: 'Ubaidullah bin 'Iyyad said that the daughter of Al-Harith had told him, "When those people gathered (to kill Khubaib) he borrowed a razor from me to shave his pubes and I gave it to him. Then he took a son of mine while I was unaware when he came upon him. I saw him placing my son on his thigh and the razor was in his hand. I got scared so much that Khubaib noticed the agitation on my face and said, 'Are you afraid that I will kill him? No, I will never do so.' By Allah, I never saw a prisoner better than Khubaib. By Allah, one day I saw him eating of a bunch of grapes in his hand while he was chained in irons, and there was no fruit at that time in Mecca." The daughter of Al-Harith used to say, "It was a boon Allah bestowed upon Khubaib." When they took him out of the Sanctuary (of Mecca) to kill him outside its boundaries, Khubaib requested them to let him offer two rakʿat (prayer). They allowed him and he offered Two rakʿat and then said, "Hadn't I been afraid that you would think that I was afraid (of being killed), I would have prolonged the prayer. O Allah, kill them all with no exception." (He then recited the poetic verse):-- "I being martyred as a Muslim, Do not mind how I am killed in Allah's Cause, For my killing is for Allah's Sake, And if Allah wishes, He will bless the amputated parts of a torn body" Then the son of Al Harith killed him. So, it was Khubaib who set the tradition for any Muslim sentenced to death in captivity, to offer a two-rakʿat prayer (before being killed). Allah fulfilled the invocation of ʿAsim bin Thabit on that very day on which he was martyred. The Prophet ﷺ informed his companions of their news and what had happened to them. Later on when some infidels from Quraish were informed that ʿAsim had been killed, they sent some people to fetch a part of his body (i.e. his head) by which he would be recognized. (That was because) ʿAsim had killed one of their chiefs on the day (of the battle) of Badr. So, a swarm of wasps, resembling a shady cloud, were sent to hover over ʿAsim and protect him from their messenger and thus they could not cut off anything from his flesh. [Machine] Narrated by Al-Miswar ibn Makhramah and Marwan ibn Al-Hakam: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out during the time of Al-Hudaybiyah with around 1,400 of his companions. When they reached Thul-Hulayfah, the Prophet ﷺ performed the rites of Hajj, donned the Ihram and performed the Umrah. He then sent ahead a scout from the tribe of Khuzayah to gather information about the Quraysh. The Prophet ﷺ continued his journey until he was near Ghadeer Al-Ash'at, close to Usfan. The scout from Khuzayah approached him and said, "I left Ka'b ibn Lu'ay and 'Amir ibn Lu'ayy, who have gathered a group of your enemies to fight against you and prevent you from entering Makkah. O Messenger of Allah, should I inform them that you are nearing them?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If they sit down, they are as good as dead. If they escape, they shall be doomed." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Do you think that if I attacked the Ka'bah, those who prevented us from reaching it would have survived?" Abu Bakr said to the Prophet ﷺ , "Allah and His Messenger have the best knowledge. O Messenger of Allah, we only came here to perform 'Umrah and did not come for battle. However, if anyone comes between us and the Ka'bah, we will fight against them." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then proceed." (This incident is summarized)

Midday came upon them while they were in a valley having many thorny trees. The people dispersed to rest in the shade of the trees. The Prophet ﷺ rested under a tree, hung his sword on it, and then slept. Then he woke up to find near to him, a man whose presence he had not noticed before. The Prophet ﷺ said, "This (man) took my sword (out of its scabbard) and said, 'Who will save you from me.' I replied, 'Allah.' [Machine] I heard Abdullah ibn Mas'ud say, "We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the time of Hudaybiyah. They mentioned that they camped on a sandy plain. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Who will keep watch over us?' Bilal said, 'I will, O Messenger of Allah.' So they slept until the sun rose, and some of them woke up, including so-and-so and so-and-so, and among them was Umar. The Prophet ﷺ woke up and said, 'Do as you used to do.' So we did. He said, 'Do the same for those who are sleeping or forgetful.' The camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ excelled, so I went to look for it and found its rope hanging from a tree. I brought it, and he mounted it, and we set off. When revelation descended upon him, it intensified this experience for him, and we recognized this in him. He moved away from us, taking shelter behind us, and covered his head, and it intensified upon him until we knew that revelation had been sent down to him. Then he came to us and informed us that revelation had been sent down to him: 'Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory.'" [Quran 48:1]

The real goodness is the goodness of the Here after, so please forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirin." They replied, "We are those who have given the Pledge of allegiance to Muhammad for to observe Jihad as long as we remain alive." (Using translation from Bukhārī 7201)

We were in a Ghazwa (Sufyan once said, in an army) and a man from the emigrants kicked an Ansari man (on the buttocks with his foot). The Ansari man said, "O the Ansar! (Help!)" and the emigrant said. "O the emigrants! (Help!) Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard that and said, "What is this call for, which is characteristic of the period of ignorance?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! A man from the emigrants kicked one of the Ansar (on the buttocks with his foot)." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Leave it (that call) as is a detestable thing." ʿAbdullah bin Ubai heard that and said, 'Have the (the emigrants) done so? By Allah, if we return Medina, surely, the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner." When this statement reached the Prophet. ʿUmar got up an, said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Let me chop off the head of this hypocrite (ʿAbdullah bin Ubai)!" The Prophet ﷺ said "Leave him, lest the people say that Muhammad kills his companions." The Ansar were then more in number than the emigrants when the latter came to Medina, but later on the emigrant increased. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4905)

On the day of Hunayn we travelled with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we journeyed for a long time until the evening came. I attended the prayer along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A horseman came and said: Messenger of Allah, I went before you and climbed a certain mountain where saw Hawazin all together with their women, cattle, and sheep, having gathered at Hunayn. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: That will be the booty of the Muslims tomorrow if Allah wills. He then asked: Who will be on guard tonight? Anas ibn AbuMarthad al-Ghanawi said: I shall , Messenger of Allah. He said: Then mount your horse. He then mounted his horse, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah said to him: Go forward to this ravine till you get to the top of it. We should not be exposed to danger from your side. In the morning the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ came out to his place of prayer, and offered two rak'ahs. He then said: Have you seen any sign of your horseman? They said: We have not, Messenger of Allah. The announcement of the time for prayer was then made, and while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying the prayer, he began to glance towards the ravine. When he finished his prayer and uttered salutation, he said: Cheer up, for your horseman has come. We therefore began to look between the trees in the ravine, and sure enough he had come. He stood beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saluted him and said: I continued till I reached the top of this ravine where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me, and in the morning I looked down into both ravines but saw no one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him: Did you dismount during the night? He replied: No, except to pray or to relieve myself. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You have ensured your entry to (Paradise). No blame will be attached to you supposing you do not work after it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2501)

I found him saying his prayer, so I sat down waiting for him to finish his prayer when I heard a stir in the bundles (of wood) lying in a comer of the house. I looked towards it and found a snake. I jumped up in order to kill it, but he (Abu Sa'id Khudri) made a gesture that I should sit down. So I sat down and as he finished (the prayer) he pointed to a room in the house and said: Do you see this room? I said: Yes. He said: There was a young man amongst us who had been newly wedded. We went with Messenger of Allah ﷺ (to participate in the Battle) of Trench when a young man in the midday used to seek permission from Messenger of Allah ﷺ to return to his family. One day he sought permission from him and Messenger of Allah ﷺ (after granting him the permission) said to him: Carry your weapons with you for I fear the tribe of Quraiza (may harm you). The man carried the weapons and then came back and found his wife standing between the two doors. He bent towards her smitten by jealousy and made a dash towards her with a spear in order to stab her. She said: Keep your spear away and enter the house until you see that which has made me come out. He entered and found a big snake coiled on the bedding. He darted with the spear and pierced it and then went out having fixed it in the house, but the snake quivered and attacked him and no one knew which of them died first, the snake or the young man. We came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and made a mention to him and said: Supplicate to Allah that that (man) may be brought back to life. Thereupon he said: Ask forgiveness for your companion and then said: There are in Medina jinns who have accepted Islam, so when you see any one of them, pronounce a warning to it for three days, and if they appear before you after that, then kill it for that is a devil. “Count for me all those who have uttered (the word of) Islam.” We said: “O Messenger of Allah, do you fear for us when we number between six and seven hundred?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “You do not know, perhaps you will be tested.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 4029)

Marwan bin Al-Hakam and Al-Miswar bin Makhrama told him that when the Muslims were permitted to set free the captives of Hawazin, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not know who amongst you has agreed (to it) and who has not. Go back so that your 'Urafa' may submit your decision to us." So the people returned and their 'Urafa' talked to them and then came back to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him that the people had given their consent happily and permitted (their captives to be freed). (Using translation from Bukhārī 7176)

That Ibn 'Umar was presented before the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Uhud, when he was fourteen years old, but he did not allow him. He was again presented to him on the day of Khandaq (the battle of Trench) when he was fifteen years old, he allowed him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2957)
50.187 [Machine] Who prevents the Imam from being followed?
[Machine] About the Prophet Muhammad, may ﷺ , said: "A prophet from among the prophets went on a military expedition with his companions. He said, 'No man should build a house and not live in it, or marry a woman and not have intercourse with her, or have a need to return and then meet the enemy while the sun is setting.' He then prayed, 'O Allah! This is a command from You and also a command to me. Detain it with me until You decide between me and them.' Allah detained it with him and opened it for him. They gathered the spoils of war, but the fire did not consume them." He said, "Whenever they won any war booty, Allah used to send an ordinary fire like this fire of yours, which devoured what they had gotten. So, when Muslims won a war booty, Allah postponed the fire from it till His Apostle came to the booty and the fire was presented to consume it. When they took out a part of the booty, they got that particular part and the fire did not consume it. Then he (the Prophet) said, 'Some of you have run away from your places of assembly. Some others sold their camels and remained behind in Mecca. So these are with me, and have not got their share from the booty yet. I intend to pay them their share so that they may obey me in fighting.' So he ordered his companions to collect whatever was with them, and it was collected." Then he called them in front of him and said, "I am going to divide what Allah has given me among you and satisfy every one of you with his share, so that none of you will be left with a grudge or be unhappy for not getting his share properly." The Prophet then made them Zakat collectors of those who remained behind in Mecca to collect Zakat from them. He then returned to Medina, leaving Abdul-Rahman bin Auf as his deputy in Medina.

Hashraj ibn Ziyad reported on the authority of his grandmother that she went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for the battle of Khaybar. They were six in number including herself. (She said): When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it, he sent for us. We came to him, and found him angry. He said: With whom did you come out, and by whose permission did you come out? We said: Messenger of Allah, we have come out to spin the hair, by which we provide aid in the cause of Allah. We have medicine for the wounded, we hand arrows (to the fighters), and supply drink made of wheat or barley. He said: Stand up. When Allah bestowed victory of Khaybar on him, he allotted shares to us from spoils that he allotted to the men. He (Hashraj ibn Ziyad) said: I said to her: Grandmother, what was that? She replied: Dates. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2729)
