"We were with Sa'eed bin Al-'Asi in Tabaristan, and Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman was with us. He said: 'Which of you offered the fear prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' Hudhaifah said: 'I did', and he described it. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the fear prayer, leading one group who had formed rows behind him in praying one rak'ah, while the other group was between him and the enemy. So he led the group that was near him in praying one rak'ah, then they left and took the place of others, and the others came and he led them in praying one rak'ah.'"  

أَيُّكُمْ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ أَنَا فَوَصَفَ فَقَالَ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْخَوْفِ بِطَائِفَةٍ رَكْعَةً صَفٍّ خَلْفَهُ وَطَائِفَةٍ أُخْرَى بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالطَّائِفَةِ الَّتِي تَلِيهِ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ نَكَصَ هَؤُلاَءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ أُولَئِكَ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed at Dhi Qarad and the people formed two rows behind him, one row behind him and one row facing the enemy. He led those who were behind him in praying one rak'ah, then they went and took the place of the others, and the others came and he led them in praying one rak'ah, and they did not make it up.  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِذِي قَرَدٍ وَصَفَّ النَّاسُ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ هَؤُلاَءِ إِلَى مَكَانِ هَؤُلاَءِ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً وَلَمْ يَقْضُوا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the prayer of fear in a land of the Banu Sulaym tribe. The people lined up behind him, forming two rows: one row facing the enemy, and another row behind him. He prayed with the row that followed him a unit of prayer, then the same group turned around to face the other group, while the second group turned around to face the first group. He then prayed another unit of prayer with them.  

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلاةَ الْخَوْفِ بِذِي قَرَدٍ أَرْضٍ مِنْ أَرْضِ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَصَفَّ النَّاسُ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ صَفٌّ مُوَازِي الْعَدُوِّ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّى بِالصَّفِّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ نَكَصَ هَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ وَهَؤُلاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً أُخْرَى  

[Machine] Who among you memorizes the prayer of fear with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Huzaifah said, "I am." So, we stood in a row behind him and in a row that faced the enemy. He prayed with those who were close to him one Rak'ah, then they went to the back lines and he prayed one Rak'ah with them and then gave them the Salam.  

أَيُّكُمْ يَحْفَظُ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ أَنَا فَقُمْنَا صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبُوا إِلَى مَصَافِّ أُولَئِكَ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , performed the prayer of fear on a land of the Banu Sulaym tribe. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «صَلَّى بِذِي قَرَدٍ فَصَفَّ النَّاسَ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ صَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ وَصَفٌّ مُصَافُّو الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَكَانِ هَؤُلَاءِ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً وَلَمْ يَقْضُوا»  

[Machine] Who among you prayed along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the prayer of fear? Huzaifah replied, "I did." So Huzaifah stood up and described the people standing behind him as two rows; one row behind him and another row parallel to the enemy. He prayed one unit of prayer with those behind him and they left to where those people were, and then others came and he prayed one unit of prayer with them, and they did not complete 1932. Amr ibn Ali narrated to us, he said: Yahya narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, he said: Rakin ibn Rabiah narrated to me, from Al-Qasim ibn Hassan, from Zaid ibn Thabit, from the Prophet ﷺ regarding the prayer of Huzaifah.  

أَيُّكُمْ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ؟ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ أَنَا فَقَامَ حُذَيْفَةُ وَصَفَّ النَّاسَ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً وَانْصَرَفَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَكَانِ هَؤُلَاءِ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً وَلَمْ يَقْضُوا 1932 أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الرَّكِينِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِثْلَ صَلَاةِ حُذَيْفَةَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the prayer of fear, so he arranged the rows behind him and the rows parallel to the enemy. He prayed with them one unit of prayer, then these people went to the place of those people, and those people came to the place of these people, so he prayed with them one unit of prayer, then he gave the salaam.
