I heard ‘Ali ؓ say: I was the first man to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. It was narrated that Habbah al-Urani said: I heard Ali ؓ say: I was the first who prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1191)
[Machine] "The first person to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Ali."
49.2 [Machine] The mention of the carriers' disagreement about this news from the department.
[Machine] The first person to embrace Islam with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , was Ali ibn Abi Talib.
[Machine] I heard Zaid bin Arqam saying, "The first person to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Ali." And he said in another place, "Ali was the first to convert to Islam."
[Machine] On his right was a young man. He did not stay long before a woman came and stood behind them. The young man bowed down in prayer, and the boy and the woman followed suit. The young man raised his head, and the boy and the woman also raised their heads. Then the young man prostrated, and the boy and the woman prostrated with him. I said, "O Abbas, this is a great matter." He asked me, "What is the great matter?" I said, "Do you know who this young man is?" I said no. He said, "This is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib. He is my nephew. And do you know who this boy is?" I said no. He said, "This is Ali ibn Abi Talib ibn Abdul-Muttalib. He is my nephew. And do you know who this woman is who is behind them?" I said no. He said, "This is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, the wife of my nephew." This is what he informed me, "That your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, has commanded him with this religion that he is upon. By Allah, there is no one on the face of the earth upon this religion except for these three."

"'Ali said: 'I am the slave of Allah and the brother of His Messenger. I am the greatest teller of the truth (Siddiq Akbar), and no one will say this after me except a liar. I prayed seven years before the people." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 120)
49.3 [Machine] Mentioning the Worship of Ali
[Machine] "I do not know anyone from this nation who has worshipped Allah besides me before anyone from this nation for seven years after its Prophet."
49.4 [Machine] The mention of the status of Ali ibn Abi Talib from Allah
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , on the Day of Judgement, he took the hand of Ali and gave a sermon in which he praised and thanked Allah. Then he said, "O people, I am your guardian." They said, "You have spoken the truth, O Messenger of Allah." Then he took the hand of Ali and raised it and said, "This is my successor and the executor of my will. Indeed, Allah is the protector of whoever supports him and the enemy of whoever opposes him."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a bird with him, so he said, "O Allah, bring me the most beloved of your creation to you, who will eat with me from this bird." Abu Bakr came and he refused, and Umar came and he refused, and Ali came and he allowed him.
What prevents you from abusing Abu Turab (Hadrat 'Ali), whereupon be said: It is because of three things which I remember Messenger of Allah ﷺ having said about him that I would not abuse him and even if I find one of those three things for me, it would be more dear to me than the red camels. I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ say about 'Ali as he left him behind in one of his campaigns (that was Tabuk). 'Ali said to him: Messenger of Allah, you leave me behind along with women and children. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron was unto Moses but with this exception that there is no prophethood after me. And I (also) heard him say on the Day of Khaibar: I would certainly give this standard to a person who loves Allah and his Messenger, and Allah and his Messenger love him too. He (the narrator) said: We had been anxiously waiting for it, when he (the Holy Prophet) said: Call 'Ali. He was called and his eyes were inflamed. He applied saliva to his eyes and handed over the standard to him, and Allah gave him victory. (The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed: "Let us summon our children and your children." Messenger of Allah ﷺ called 'Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain and said: O Allah, they are my family. (Using translation from Muslim 2404d)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "There are three qualities, if you possess one of them, it would be dearer to me than owning a red camel. I heard him saying, '(The relationship of the Prophet) is like that of Harun (i.e., Aaron) to Moses, but there will be no prophet after me,' and I heard him saying, 'Tomorrow I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.' And I heard him saying, 'Whomever I am his master (Mawla), then Ali is his master (Mawla).'
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tomorrow, I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love. Allah will grant victory through his hands." His companions were excited about it, and the flag was given to Ali.
[Machine] He said to Ali, who was accompanying him, "Indeed, people have criticized you for going out in extreme cold while wearing thin clothing and going out in extreme heat while wearing thick clothing." Ali said, "Were you not with us at the Battle of Khaybar?" He said, "Yes." Ali said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Bakr with a battalion and he returned. Then he sent Umar with a battalion and he also returned with the people." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he will not flee." Then he sent for me while I was sharpening my weapon. I said, "I am sharpening (my weapon), so pour some water into my eyes." And he said, "O Allah, protect him from the heat and the cold, for I have not found anyone after him who is affected by either heat or cold."
[Machine] I heard my father Buraydah saying, "We were besieged in Khaybar, and Abu Bakr took command, but it was not opened for him. Then, Umar took command on the following day, but it was not opened for him either. On that day, the people faced great difficulty and exerted great effort. So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Tomorrow, I will hand over my flag to a man whom Allah and His Messenger love, and he loves them, and it will not be returned until it is opened for him.' We spent the night in a state of anticipation that the victory would come the next day. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the morning prayer and stood up, he called for the flag and the people lined up behind him. There was not a single one of us who did not hope to be the one to carry the flag in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . So, he called for Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was suffering from an inflamed eye. The Prophet ﷺ applied his saliva to Ali's eye, wiped it off, and handed him the flag. Allah opened Khaybar for him and he said, 'And I will be the one who will enter it.'"
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived in the presence of the people of Khaybar, he appointed 'Umar as the leader and he stood up along with those who stood up from among the people. They met the people of Khaybar, and 'Umar and his companions were revealed. They returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I will give the leadership to a man whom Allah and His Messenger love and who loves Allah and His Messenger." The next day, Abu Bakr and 'Umar took the lead. 'Ali was called, and he was weak, so he spat in his eyes and he stood up with him from among the people. They met the people of Khaybar, and there was a welcoming call that he made while saying, "[The sea] has known that Khaybar, I am a welcoming guest, a brave knight experienced with weapons. Sometimes I stab and sometimes I strike. When the lions advance, they start to blaze. He and 'Ali had a difference of opinion. 'Ali struck him twice, and then 'Ali struck him on his forehead until his sword became white. The people of the military heard the sound of his strike, so they were not left behind with 'Ali. So Allah opened for him and for them.
On the day of Khaibar, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Tomorrow I will give this flag to a man through whose hands Allah will give us victory. He loves Allah and His Apostle, and he is loved by Allah and His Apostle." The people remained that night, wondering as to who would be given it. In the morning the people went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and everyone of them was hopeful to receive it (i.e. the flag). The Prophet said, "Where is ʿAli bin Abi Talib?" It was said, "He is suffering from eye trouble O Allah's Apostle." He said, "Send for him." ʿAli was brought and Messenger of Allah ﷺ spat in his eye and invoked good upon him. So ʿAli was cured as if he never had any trouble. Then the Prophet ﷺ gave him the flag. ʿAli said "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I will fight with them till they become like us." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Proceed and do not hurry. When you enter their territory, call them to embrace Islam and inform them of Allah's Rights which they should observe, for by Allah, even if a single man is led on the right path (of Islam) by Allah through you, then that will be better for you than the nice red camels. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4210)
49.5 [Machine] Mentioning the Differences in the Narrations of Abu Hurairah's News
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Today, I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." So, the people asked, "Where is Ali?" They said that he was complaining about his eyes. The Prophet ﷺ then spit on his hands, wiped Ali's eyes with them, and handed him the banner. Allah granted him victory at his hands.
I shall certainly give this standard in the hand of one who loves Allah and his Messenger and Allah will grant victory at his hand. Umar b. Khattab said: Never did I cherish for leadership but on that day. I came before him with the hope that I may be called for this, but Messenger of Allah ﷺ called 'Ali b. Abu Talib and he conferred (this honour) upon him and said: Proceed on and do not look about until Allah grants you victory, and 'Ali went a bit and then halted and did not look about and then said in a loud voice: Messenger of Allah, on what issue should I fight with the people? Thereupon he (the Prophet) said: Fight with them until they bear testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger, and when they do that then their blood and their riches are inviolable from your hands but what is justified by law and their reckoning is with Allah. [Machine] "I am standing with you," they said to me. I do not know what they said. Then he came while shaking his garment and said, "Woe and destruction to those who fall into a man who has ten (followers), and they fall into a man." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "I will send a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and will never disgrace him." So the one who wanted to volunteer stepped forward and said, "Where is Ali?" And he was in the milling stone grinding, and no one was grinding before him. He called him while he was blinded and could hardly see, and he blew into his eyes, then shook the flag three times and handed it to him. Then he brought Safiyyah bint Huyayy and sent Abu Bakr with Surah At-Tawbah, and he sent Ali after him to take it from him and said, "No one must take it but a man who is from me and I am from him." Then the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , called Hasan, Husayn, Ali, and Fatimah and extended a cloth over them and said, "These are my family and close ones. Remove impurity from them and purify them thoroughly." He was the first among the people to accept Islam after Khadijah, and he wore the garment of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and slept in it. The polytheists would stone him, thinking that he was the Prophet of Allah. Abu Bakr came and said, "O Prophet of Allah!" Ali said, "The Prophet of Allah has gone towards Bir Ma'unah, and he followed him. They entered the cave, and the polytheists threw stones at Ali until morning. Then he came out with the people in the expedition of Tabuk. Ali said, "Shall I go with you?" He said, "No." So Ali cried and said, "Wouldn't you be pleased to have me as your Harun (Aaron) was to Musa (Moses), except that you are not a prophet?" Then he said, "You are my successor," meaning in every believer after me. He said, "And leave the doors of the mosque open except for the door of Ali, for he enters the mosque while in a state of impurity and there is no one else who does so." He said, "Whoever I am his leader, Ali is his leader." Ibn Abbas said, "Allah has informed us in the Qur'an that He has already been pleased with the companions of the tree, so has he revealed anything afterwards that caused him to be angry with them?" He said, "And the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to Umar when he said, 'Give me permission to kill him,' meaning Hattab, 'What do you know? Perhaps Allah has seen the people of Badr.' He said, 'Do as you please, for I have forgiven you.'"

The face of the Prophet ﷺ changed again, and he said, "O people of Quraysh, by Allah, Allah will surely send upon you a man from among yourselves whose heart Allah has tested for faith. He will either unite you upon the religion or divide you." Abu Bakr asked, "Am I that man, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "No." Umar asked, "Am I that man, O Messenger of Allah?"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen to settle disputes among them, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have no knowledge of how to settle disputes." He struck his hand on my chest and said, "O Allah, guide his heart and make his tongue steadfast." So, I did not doubt in settling a dispute between two people until I sat in this gathering. Abu 'Abdul Rahman narrated this Hadith from Shu'bah, who narrated it from 'Amr bin Murrah, who narrated it from Abu Al-Bakhtari. He said, "A person who heard 'Ali told me." Abu 'Abdul Rahman said, "Abu Al-Bakhtari did not hear anything from 'Ali."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen. I said: O Messenger of Allah, you are sending me to people who are older than me, and I am young and do not know how to judge. He put his hand on my chest and said: ʿO Allah, make his tongue steadfast and guide his heart. O Ali, when two disputants sit before you, do not judge between them until you listen to the second one as you listened to the first. If you do that, the verdict will become clear to you.” ‘Ali said: I never got confused about any judgement after that or doubted a verdict after that. (Using translation from Aḥmad 882)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen. I said: You are sending me to people who are older than me for me to judge between them. He said: ʿGo, for Allah will guide your heart and make your tongue steadfast.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 1342)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Yemen, so I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you send me to elderly people with prominent teeth, and I fear that I will not be successful." He said, "Indeed, Allah will make your tongue steadfast and guide your heart."
49.15 [Machine] Remembering the saying of the Prophet (Peace be upon him), "I have been commanded to close these doors except for the door of Ali.
[Machine] There was a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who had their own doors in the mosque. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Close all these doors except the door of Ali." Some people spoke about this matter, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and praised Allah and glorified Him. Then he said, "As for what comes after, I have been commanded to close these doors except the door of Ali." One of you said, "By Allah, I did not close it nor did I open it, but I followed what I was commanded."
49.16 [Machine] The mention of the saying of the Prophet (PBUH): "I did not bring you in or take you out, rather, it is Allah who brought you in and took you out.
[Machine] We were with the Prophet ﷺ and there were people sitting with him. Ali entered, and when he entered, they left. When they left, they complained and said, "By Allah, we did not leave because he entered and brought you out". So they returned and entered, and the Prophet said, "By Allah, I did not bring him in and bring you out. Rather, Allah brought him in and brought you out."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the mosque when it was announced at night that none should leave the mosque except the family of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the family of Ali. So we left, and when morning came, Umar came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have taken out your Companions and your uncles, and you have allowed this boy to stay." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I did not command you to leave, nor did I command this boy to stay. Indeed, Allah is the one who commanded it." It was narrated that Ibn Sharik said, from Abdullah bin Ruqaim, from Saad, that Abbas came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "You have closed all our doors except Ali's door." He said, "I neither closed it nor opened it." Abu Abdullah Rahman bin Sharik said, "That is not true, and I don't know this Harith bin Malik or Abdullah bin Ruqaim." Zakariah bin Yahya informed me that Abdullah bin Umar said, Asbat narrated from Fitr, from Abdullah bin Sharik, from Abdullah bin Ruqaim, from Saad, with a similar narration.

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook the expedition of Tabuk, he left Ali behind in Medina. People criticized Ali and disliked his company. The Prophet ﷺ continued on his journey until he met Ali on the way. Ali said, "O Messenger of Allah, you left me in Medina with the weak and the women, and they criticized me and disliked my company." The Prophet ﷺ replied to him, "O Ali, I left you to take care of my family. Would you not be pleased to have the same status with me as Harun had with Musa, except that there is no Prophet after me?"

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to Tabuk, Ali also went out accompanying him. He started crying and said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me with the women and children?" The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "O Ali, are you not satisfied with being to me as Harun was to Musa, except that there is no Prophethood after me?"

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "Wouldn't you be pleased to be to me what Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no Prophethood after me?" Said Saeed, "I was not pleased until I went to Saad and said, 'Something that your son told me about you'." He said, "And what is it?" So I told him about this, and he became very angry and said, 'Is it not appropriate for me to be to my nephew as Aaron was to Moses?' So I said, 'Did you hear the Prophet ﷺ say this and that to Ali?' He said, 'Yes, and he pointed to his ears, and if not, they would have been cut off. I have indeed heard him saying this.' Abu Abdur-Rahman said, "I do not know of anyone who followed Abdulaziz bin Majishoon in narrating from Muhammad bin Munkadir from Saeed bin Musayyab from Ibrahim bin Saad except Ibrahim bin Saad, who narrated this hadith from his father." Abu Abdur-Rahman said, "He (Ibrahim) was opposed by Yusuf bin Majishoon, who narrated it from Muhammad bin Munkadir from Saeed bin Musayyab from Aamir bin Saad from his father, and Ali bin Zaid bin Jud'an followed him in narrating from Aamir bin Saad."
