ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُصْطَفَى ﷺ أَمَرَ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ الْهَدْيُ بِكُلِّ الْإِحْلَالِ لَا بِالْبَعْضِ مِنْهُ

[Machine] We went out with the Prophet ﷺ, hastening for Hajj. We arrived at Makkah and performed Tawaf around the Kaaba, between Safa and Marwa. Then the Prophet ﷺ addressed us, saying, "Whoever did not bring a sacrificial animal should perform Umrah instead." We asked, "What is the ruling, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The ruling is for everyone." So we removed our garments and put on Ihram, and we perfumed ourselves with perfume. Some people said, "What is this? We are going to 'Arafat and our garments are dripping with semen!" This was then reported to the Prophet ﷺ, who stood among us in a state of anger and said, "I swear by Allah, you all knew that I was the most pious among you. If I had known that you were saying this, I would not have offered the sacrificial animal. So forgive what you have been ordered." Surahqa ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah of ours a one-time thing or is it for every year?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No, it is for every year."

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ فَطُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فِينَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ سَاقَ هَدْيًا فَلْيَحْلِلْ وَلْيَجْعَلْهَا عَمْرَةً» فَقُلْنَا حِلٌّ مِنْ ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ» فَوَاقَعْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَلَبِسْنَا وَتَطَيَّبْنَا بِالطِّيبِ فَقَالَ أُنَاسٌ مَا هَذَا الْأَمْرُ نَأْتِي عَرَفَةَ وَأُيُورُنَا تَقْطُرُ مَنِيًّا؟ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَامَ فِينَا كَالْمُغْضَبِ فَقَالَ «وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنِّي أَتْقَاكُمْ وَلَوْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ هَذَا مَا سُقْتُ الْهَدْيَ فَاسْمَحُوا بِمَا تُؤْمَرُونَ بِهِ» فَقَامَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عُمْرَتُنَا هَذِهِ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَنَا بِهَا أَلِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ»

"We, the Companions of the Prophet, entered Ihram for Hajj only, and nothing else. We came to Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hajjah, and the Prophet commanded us: "Exit Ihram and make it Umrah. He heard that we were saying: 'when there are only five days between us and 'Arafat he commands us to exit Ihram and we will go out to Mina with our male members dripping with semen (because of recent intimacy with our wives)?' the Prophet stood up and addressed us, saying: 'I have heard what you said. I am the most righteous and the most pious of you, and were it not for the Hadi I would have exited Ihram. If I had known what I know now, I would not have from Yemen and he said: 'for what did you enter Ihram?' He said: 'For that for which the Messenger of Allah entered Ihram.' Suraq bin Malik bin Jushum said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that this Umrah of ours is for this year only or for all time?' He said: 'It is for all time."

“We began our Talbiyah for Hajj only with Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and we did not mix it with ‘Umrah. We arrived in Makkah when four nights of Dhul-Hijjah had passed, and when we had performed Tawaf around the Ka’bah and Sa’y between Safa and Marwah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to make it ‘Umrah, and to come out of Ihram and have relations with our wives. We said: ‘There are only five (days) until ‘Arafah. Will we g out to it with our male organs dripping with semen?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I am the most righteous and truthful among you, and were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have exited Ihram.’ Suraqah bin Malik said: ‘Is this Tamattu’ for this year only or forever?’ He said: ‘No, it is forever and ever.’”

[Machine] We went out with the Prophet ﷺ to perform the Hajj. We arrived in Makkah and performed the ritual of tawaf around the Kaaba, as well as sa'i between Safa and Marwa. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Declare your intention for 'Umrah and make it purely 'Umrah, except for those who have brought sacrificial animals." Upon hearing this, the women became flustered and confused. When it was the day of the Tarwiyah, we declared our intention for Hajj. Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'shum asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "O Messenger of Allah, is this 'Umrah valid for us just this year or forever?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, rather, it is forever."

[Machine] We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing our Ihram garments until women and children met us. When we arrived in Mecca, we circumambulated the Kaaba, Safa, and Marwa, the Prophet ﷺ said to us, "Whoever doesn't have a sacrificial animal should go into a state of Ihram." We asked, "What type of Ihram?" He replied, "All types of Ihram." So we approached the women, wore our clothes, and applied fragrance. On the day of Tarwiyah, we entered the state of Ihram for Hajj, and the first tawaf between Safa and Marwa was sufficient for us. The Prophet ﷺ instructed us to share the camels and cattle, with seven of us sharing each mount. Then Suraqah bin Malik came and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, explain our religion as if we were just created now. Is this Umrah for this year only, or forever?" He said, "No, it is forever."  

الطبراني:٦٥٦٣حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ثنا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ حَتَّى النِّسَاءُ وَالْوِلْدَانُ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ طُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ فَلْيَحِلَّ» قُلْنَا أَيُّ الْحِلِّ؟ قَالَ «الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ» فَأَتَيْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَلَبِسْنَا الثِّيَابَ وَمَسَسْنَا الطِّيبَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ أَهْلَلْنَا بِالْحَجِّ وَكَفَانَا الطَّوَافُ الْأَوَّلُ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَشْتَرِكَ فِي الْإِبِلِ وَالْبَقَرِ كُلُّ سَبْعَةٍ مِنَّا فِي بَدَنَةٍ فَجَاءَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَيِّنْ لَنَا دِينَنَا كَأَنَّنَا خُلِقْنَا الْآنَ؟ أَرَأَيْتَ عُمْرَتَنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا هَذَا؟ أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ قَالَ «بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ»

Then, Suraqah bin Malik stood up and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah a one-time act or is it for every year?" The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , replied, "No, it is for every year." Suraqah then asked, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about our religion. Is it as if we were created today? Is there anything that was ceased to be written and decided?" The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , said, "No, it is in what has been already written and decided." Suraqah then asked, "So, what should we do, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You should act upon it, for every doer will find ease." Then, he recited the verse, "But as for he who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best [reward], We will ease him toward ease. But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need and denies the best [reward], We will ease him toward difficulty."
