We went with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in 'a state of Ihram for the Hajj. There were women and children with us. When we reached Mecca we circumambulated the House and (ran) between al-Safa and al-Marwa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who has no sacrificial animal with him should put off lhram. We said: What kind of putting off? He said: Getting out of lhram completely. So we came to our wives, and put on our clothes and applied perfume. When it was the day of Tarwiya, we put on Ihram for Hajj. and the first circumambulation and (running) between al-Safa and al-Marwa sufficed us.. Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to become seven partners (in the sacrifice) of a camel and a cow.

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ مَعَنَا النِّسَاءُ وَالْوِلْدَانُ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ طُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْىٌ فَلْيَحْلِلْ قَالَ قُلْنَا أَىُّ الْحِلِّ قَالَ الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ قَالَ فَأَتَيْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَلَبِسْنَا الثِّيَابَ وَمَسِسْنَا الطِّيبَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ أَهْلَلْنَا بِالْحَجِّ وَكَفَانَا الطَّوَافُ الأَوَّلُ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَشْتَرِكَ فِي الإِبِلِ وَالْبَقَرِ كُلُّ سَبْعَةٍ مِنَّا فِي بَدَنَةٍ

Jabir bin Abdullah said “We raised our voices in talbiyah along with the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ exclusively for Hajj, not combining anything with it. When we came to Makkah four days of Dhu al Hijjah had already passed. We the circumambulated (the Ka’bah) and ran between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah . The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ then commanded us to put off ihram. He said if I had not brought the sacrificial animals, I would have taken off Ihram. Suraqah bin Malik then stood up and said Apostle of Allaah , what do you think, have you provided this facility to us for this year alone or forever? The Apostle of Allaah said No, this forever and forever. Al Awza’l said I heard Ata bin Abi Rabah narrating this tradition, but I did not memorize it till I met Ibn Juraij who confirmed it for me.

أَهْلَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لاَ يُخَالِطُهُ شَىْءٌ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ لأَرْبَعِ لَيَالٍ خَلَوْنَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَطُفْنَا وَسَعَيْنَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَحِلَّ وَقَالَ لَوْلاَ هَدْيِي لَحَلَلْتُ ثُمَّ قَامَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ مُتْعَتَنَا هَذِهِ أَلِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلأَبَدِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَلْ هِيَ لِلأَبَدِ قَالَ الأَوْزَاعِيُّ سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءَ بْنَ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ يُحَدِّثُ بِهَذَا فَلَمْ أَحْفَظْهُ حَتَّى لَقِيتُ ابْنَ جُرَيْجٍ فَأَثْبَتَهُ لِي

"We, the Companions of the Prophet, entered Ihram for Hajj only, and nothing else. We came to Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hajjah, and the Prophet commanded us: "Exit Ihram and make it Umrah. He heard that we were saying: 'when there are only five days between us and 'Arafat he commands us to exit Ihram and we will go out to Mina with our male members dripping with semen (because of recent intimacy with our wives)?' the Prophet stood up and addressed us, saying: 'I have heard what you said. I am the most righteous and the most pious of you, and were it not for the Hadi I would have exited Ihram. If I had known what I know now, I would not have from Yemen and he said: 'for what did you enter Ihram?' He said: 'For that for which the Messenger of Allah entered Ihram.' Suraq bin Malik bin Jushum said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that this Umrah of ours is for this year only or for all time?' He said: 'It is for all time."

أَهْلَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ خَالِصًا وَحْدَهُ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ صَبِيحَةَ رَابِعَةٍ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَأَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَحِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً فَبَلَغَهُ عَنَّا أَنَّا نَقُولُ لَمَّا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلاَّ خَمْسٌ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ فَنَرُوحَ إِلَى مِنًى وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنَ الْمَنِيِّ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَخَطَبَنَا فَقَالَ قَدْ بَلَغَنِي الَّذِي قُلْتُمْ وَإِنِّي لأَبَرُّكُمْ وَأَتْقَاكُمْ وَلَوْلاَ الْهَدْىُ لَحَلَلْتُ وَلَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا أَهْدَيْتُ قَالَ وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ بِمَا أَهْلَلْتَ قَالَ بِمَا أَهَلَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَ فَأَهْدِ وَامْكُثْ حَرَامًا كَمَا أَنْتَ قَالَ وَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ عُمْرَتَنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَوْ لِلأَبَدِ قَالَ هِيَ لِلأَبَدِ

“We began our Talbiyah for Hajj only with Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and we did not mix it with ‘Umrah. We arrived in Makkah when four nights of Dhul-Hijjah had passed, and when we had performed Tawaf around the Ka’bah and Sa’y between Safa and Marwah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to make it ‘Umrah, and to come out of Ihram and have relations with our wives. We said: ‘There are only five (days) until ‘Arafah. Will we g out to it with our male organs dripping with semen?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I am the most righteous and truthful among you, and were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have exited Ihram.’ Suraqah bin Malik said: ‘Is this Tamattu’ for this year only or forever?’ He said: ‘No, it is forever and ever.’”

[AI] We went out with the Prophet ﷺ to perform the Hajj. We arrived in Makkah and performed the ritual of tawaf around the Kaaba, as well as sa'i between Safa and Marwa. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Declare your intention for 'Umrah and make it purely 'Umrah, except for those who have brought sacrificial animals." Upon hearing this, the women became flustered and confused. When it was the day of the Tarwiyah, we declared our intention for Hajj. Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'shum asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "O Messenger of Allah, is this 'Umrah valid for us just this year or forever?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, rather, it is forever."

Jabir said “We went out along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raising our voices in talbiyah for Hakk alone(Ifrad) while A’ishah raised her voice in talbiyah for an ‘Umrah. When she reached Sarif, she menstruated. When we came to (Makkah) we circumambulated the Ka’bah and ran between al Safa’ and al Marwah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then commanded us that those who had not brought sacrificial animals withthem should put off their ihram (after ‘Umrah). We asked “Which acts are lawful(and which not)? He replied All acts are lawful (that are permissible usually). We had therefore intercourse with our wives, used perfumes, put on our clothes. There remained only four days to perform Hajj at ‘Arafah. We then raised our voice in talbiyah (wearing Ihram for Hajj) on the eighth of Dhu al Hijjah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon A’ishah and found her weeping. He said What is the matter with you? My problem is that I have menstruated, while the people have put on their ihram but I have not done so, nor did I go round the House(the Ka’bah). Now the people are proceeding for Hajj. He said This is a thing destined by Allah to the daughters of Adam. Take a bath, then raise your voice in talbiyah for Hajj(i.e, wear ihram for Hajj). She took a abtah and performed all the rites of the Hajj(lit. she stayed at all those places where the pilgrims stay). When she was purified, she circumambulated the House (the Ka’bah), and ran between al Safa’ and al Marwah. He (the Prophet) said “Now you have performed both your Hajj and your ‘Umrah. She said Messenger of Allah, I have some misgiving in my mind that I did not go round the Ka’bah when I performed Hajj (in the beginning). He said ‘Abd al Rahman (her brother), take her and have her perform ‘Umrah from Al Tan’im. This happened on the night of Al Hasbah(i.e., the fourteenth of Dhu Al Hijjah). أَقْبَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ مُفْرَدًا فَأَقْبَلَتْ عَائِشَةُ مُهِلَّةً بِعُمْرَةٍ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ بِسَرِفَ عَرَكَتْ حَتَّى إِذَا قَدِمْنَا طُفْنَا بِالْكَعْبَةِ وَالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَحِلَّ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا حِلُّ مَاذَا؟ قَالَ الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ فَوَاقَعْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَتَطَيَّبْنَا بِالطِّيبِوَلَيْسَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَّا أَرْبَعُ لَيَالٍ ثُمَّ أَهْلَلْنَا يَوْمَ التَّرْوِيَةِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَوَجَدَهَا تَبْكِي فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكِ؟ قَالَتْ شَأْنِي أَنِّي حِضْتُ وَقَدْ حَلَّ النَّاسُ وَلَمْ أَحْلِلْ وَلَمْ أَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ وَالنَّاسُ يَذْهَبُونَ إِلَى الْحَجِّ الْآنَ فَقَالَ فَإِنَّ هَذَا أَمْرٌ كَتَبَهُ اللهُ عَلَى بَنَاتِ آدَمَ فَاغْتَسِلِي ثُمَّ أَهِلِّي بِالْحَجِّ فَفَعَلَتْ وَوَقَفَتِ الْمَوَاقِفَ كُلَّهَا حَتَّى إِذَا طَهُرَتْ طَافَتْ بِالْكَعْبَةِ وَبِالصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ قَدْ حَلَلْتِ مِنْ حَجِّكِ وَعُمْرَتِكِ جَمِيعًا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَجِدُ فِي نَفْسِي أَنِّي لَمْ أَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ حَتَّى حَجَجْتُ قَالَ فَاذْهَبْ بِهَا يَا عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَأَعْمِرْهَا مِنَ التَّنْعِيمِ وَذَلِكَ لَيْلَةَ الْحَصْبَةِ

[AI] "We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for Hajj, along with women and children. When we arrived in Makkah, we made tawaf around the Kaaba and between Safa and Marwa. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'Whoever does not have a sacrificial animal, let him perform Ihram for Umrah.' We asked, 'Which type of Ihram?' He replied, 'All types of Ihram are acceptable.' On the day of Tarwiyah, we performed Hajj and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'Share camels and cattle, seven in a group.' Surahqah ibn Malik ibn Jushum came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah for this year or forever?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'Not just for this year, but forever.' He then asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, explain our religion to us as if we were just created now. What do you think of the actions that we do? Are they for what has already been written or for what lies ahead?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'Not for what has already been written, but for what lies ahead.' I asked, 'So what should we do?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do good deeds, for everyone will find it easy to do what they are destined to do.'"

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ وَمَعَنَا النِّسَاءُ وَالذَّرَارِيُّ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ طُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَهُ هَدْيٌ فَلْيَحِلَّ» فَقُلْنَا أَيُّ الْحِلِّ؟ فَقَالَ «الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ» فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ التَّرْوِيَةِ أَهْلَلْنَا بِالْحَجِّ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اشْتَرِكُوا فِي الْإِبِلِ وَالْبَقَرِ كُلُّ سَبْعَةٍ فِي بَدَنَةٍ» قَالَ فَجَاءَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ عُمْرَتَنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ «لَا بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَيِّنْ لَنَا دِينَنَا كَأَنَّمَا خُلِقْنَا الْآنَ أَرَأَيْتَ الْعَمَلَ الَّذِي نَعْمَلُ بِهِ أَفِيمَا جَفَّتْ بِهِ الْأَقْلَامُ وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ أَمْ مِمَّا نَسْتَقْبِلُ؟ فَقَالَ ﷺ «لَا بَلْ فِيمَا جَفَّتْ بِهِ الْأَقْلَامُ وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ» قُلْتُ فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اعْمَلُوا فَكُلٌّ مُيَسَّرٌ»

“We began our Talbiyah for Hajj only with Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and we did not mix it with ‘Umrah. We arrived in Makkah when four nights of Dhul-Hijjah had passed, and when we had performed Tawaf around the Ka’bah and Sa’y between Safa and Marwah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to make it ‘Umrah, and to come out of Ihram and have relations with our wives. We said: ‘There are only five (days) until ‘Arafah. Will we g out to it with our male organs dripping with semen?’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘I am the most righteous and truthful among you, and were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have exited Ihram.’ Suraqah bin Malik said: ‘Is this Tamattu’ for this year only or forever?’ He said: ‘No, it is forever and ever.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2980)

أَهْلَلْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَا نَخْلِطُ بِغَيْرِهِ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ لِأَرْبَعِ لَيَالٍ خَلَوْنَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَلَمَّا طُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَسَعَيْنَا بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَجْعَلَهَا عَمْرَةً وَأَنْ نَحِلَّ إِلَى النِّسَاءِ فَقُلْنَا بَيْنَنَا لَيْسَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَّا خَمْسٌ فَنَخْرُجُ إِلَيْهَا وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ مَنِيًّا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنِّي لَأَبَرُّكُمْ وَأَصْدَقُكُمْ وَلَوْلَا الْهَدْيُ لَأَحْلَلْتُ» فَقَامَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْتِعَتُنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ»

[AI] We went out with the Prophet ﷺ, hastening for Hajj. We arrived at Makkah and performed Tawaf around the Kaaba, between Safa and Marwa. Then the Prophet ﷺ addressed us, saying, "Whoever did not bring a sacrificial animal should perform Umrah instead." We asked, "What is the ruling, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The ruling is for everyone." So we removed our garments and put on Ihram, and we perfumed ourselves with perfume. Some people said, "What is this? We are going to 'Arafat and our garments are dripping with semen!" This was then reported to the Prophet ﷺ, who stood among us in a state of anger and said, "I swear by Allah, you all knew that I was the most pious among you. If I had known that you were saying this, I would not have offered the sacrificial animal. So forgive what you have been ordered." Surahqa ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah of ours a one-time thing or is it for every year?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "No, it is for every year."

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ فَطُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فِينَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ سَاقَ هَدْيًا فَلْيَحْلِلْ وَلْيَجْعَلْهَا عَمْرَةً» فَقُلْنَا حِلٌّ مِنْ ذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ» فَوَاقَعْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَلَبِسْنَا وَتَطَيَّبْنَا بِالطِّيبِ فَقَالَ أُنَاسٌ مَا هَذَا الْأَمْرُ نَأْتِي عَرَفَةَ وَأُيُورُنَا تَقْطُرُ مَنِيًّا؟ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَامَ فِينَا كَالْمُغْضَبِ فَقَالَ «وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنِّي أَتْقَاكُمْ وَلَوْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ هَذَا مَا سُقْتُ الْهَدْيَ فَاسْمَحُوا بِمَا تُؤْمَرُونَ بِهِ» فَقَامَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عُمْرَتُنَا هَذِهِ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَنَا بِهَا أَلِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ»

[AI] We went out with the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , to perform the Hajj, so we arrived at Mecca and performed Tawaf around the Kaaba and between Safa and Marwa. Then, the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , addressed us and said, "Whoever has not brought a sacrificial animal, let him perform Umrah instead." We asked, "What is Umrah, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Umrah is every type of performance." So, we prepared ourselves, wore the clothes of Ihram, and applied perfume. Some people said that we should perform Umrah after reaching Arafah for four days. When the Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , heard about this, he became angry and said, "By Allah, you know that I am the most God-conscious among you. If I had known that you would say this, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal. Obey what you are commanded to do." Then, Suraqah bin Malik stood up and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah a one-time act or is it for every year?" The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , replied, "No, it is for every year." Suraqah then asked, "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about our religion. Is it as if we were created today? Is there anything that was ceased to be written and decided?" The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , said, "No, it is in what has been already written and decided." Suraqah then asked, "So, what should we do, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You should act upon it, for every doer will find ease." Then, he recited the verse, "But as for he who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best [reward], We will ease him toward ease. But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need and denies the best [reward], We will ease him toward difficulty."

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُهِلِّينَ بِالْحَجِّ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ فَطُفْنَا بِالْبَيْتِ وَبَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْكُمْ سَاقَ هَدْيًا فَلْيَحِلَّ وَلْيَجْعَلْهَا عُمْرَةً» قُلْنَا حِلُّ مَاذَا يَا رَسُولِ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «الْحِلُّ كُلُّهُ» فَوَاقَعْنَا النِّسَاءَ وَلَبِسْنَا الثِّيَابَ وَتَطَيَّبْنَا الطِّيبَ فَقَالَ نَاسٌ يَحِلُّ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ أَرْبَعَةُ أَيَّامٍ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَامَ فِينَا كَالْمُغْضَبِ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنِّي أَتْقَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ وَلَوْ عَلِمْتُ أَنْ تَقُولُوا ذَلِكَ مَا سُقْتُ الْهَدْيَ فَاسْتَجِيبُوا لِمَا تُؤْمَرُونَ بِهِ فَقَامَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عُمْرَتُنَا هَذِهِ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَنَا بِهَا لِعَامِهَا هَذَا أَمْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ لِلْأَبَدِ» فَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ حَدِّثْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَنْ دِينِنَا كَأَنَّنَا خُلِقْنَا الْآنَ أَفِي شَيْءٍ جَفَّتْ بِهِ الْأَقْلَامُ وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ أَوْ فِيمَا يُسْتَأْنَفُ؟ قَالَ «بَلْ فِيمَا جَفَّتْ بِهِ الْأَقْلَامُ وَجَرَتْ بِهِ الْمَقَادِيرُ» فَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «اعْمَلُوا فَكُلُّ عَامِلٍ مُيَسَّرٌ» ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَى وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى}

"We, the Companions of the Prophet, entered Ihram for Hajj only, and nothing else. We came to Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hajjah, and the Prophet commanded us: "Exit Ihram and make it Umrah. He heard that we were saying: 'when there are only five days between us and 'Arafat he commands us to exit Ihram and we will go out to Mina with our male members dripping with semen (because of recent intimacy with our wives)?' the Prophet stood up and addressed us, saying: 'I have heard what you said. I am the most righteous and the most pious of you, and were it not for the Hadi I would have exited Ihram. If I had known what I know now, I would not have from Yemen and he said: 'for what did you enter Ihram?' He said: 'For that for which the Messenger of Allah entered Ihram.' Suraq bin Malik bin Jushum said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that this Umrah of ours is for this year only or for all time?' He said: 'It is for all time." أَهْلَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا وَحْدَهُ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ صُبْحَ رَابِعَةٍ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَأَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «حِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوا عُمْرَةً» فَبَلَغَهُ عَنَّا أَنَا نَقُولُ لَمَّا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَّا خَمْسٌ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ فَنَرُوحَ إِلَى مِنًى وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنَ الْمَنِيِّ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَخَطَبَنَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ بَلَغَنِي الَّذِي قُلْتُمْ وَإِنِّي لَأَبَرُّكُمْ وَأَتْقَاكُمْ وَلَوْلَا الْهَدْيُ لَحَلَلْتُ وَلَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا أَهْدَيْتُ» قَالَ وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ «بِمَ أَهْلَلْتَ؟» قَالَ بِمَا أَهَلَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَ «فَأَهْدِ وَامْكُثْ حَرَامًا كَمَا أَنْتَ» قَالَ وَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ جُعْشُمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ عُمْرَتَنَا هَذِهِ أَلِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَوْ لِلْأَبَدِ؟ قَالَ «هِيَ لِلْأَبَدِ»
