13. Book of Pilgrimage (Ḥajj)
ʿA’ishah said ; I used to perfume the Messenger of Allah (SWAS) preparatory to his entering the sacred state before he put on Ihram, and preparatory to putting off Ihram before he made the circuits round the House (the Ka’bah). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1745)
"It is as if I can see the glistening of the perfume on the head of the Messenger of Allah while he is in Ihram. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2695)
[Machine] "I perfumed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during his Ihram, then I saw the fragrance at the parting of his hair after three days while he was in the state of Ihram."
I still seem to see the glistening of the perfume where the hair was parted on the head of the Messenger of Allah (SWAS) while he was wearing Ihram. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1746)
"'Aishah said: 'I put perfume on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before he entered Ihram and on the Day of Sacrifice before he circumambulated the House, using perfume containing musk."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2692)
I applied perfume to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before he entered upon the state of lhram and (concluding) before circumambulating the (sacred) House. (Using translation from Muslim 1189a)
ʿA’ishah said ; I used to perfume the Messenger of Allah (SWAS) preparatory to his entering the sacred state before he put on Ihram, and preparatory to putting off Ihram before he made the circuits round the House (the Ka’bah). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1745)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Dibaa'ah, "Perform Hajj and stipulate that the place where you kept me captive is the location for my release."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon Duba'ah bint Zubi' ibn 'Abdul-Muttalib while she was complaining, so he said to her, "File your complaint and make a condition that my judgment will be where you have confined me."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "What did you use to determine the beginning of the month?" He replied, "I determined it based on the sighting of the crescent that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to determine it with." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If I did not have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have started the month."
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out of Medina for Hajj, and I also went out from Yemen. I said, 'Labbaik Ihlaalan ka Ihlaal-in-Nabiyyi ﷺ .' So, Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, I have combined Umrah and Hajj.'"
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was in the state of Ihram for Umrah, wearing a cloak and showing off. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to take off the cloak and perform ghusl (ritual bath) two or three times. He said, "What you did not do during Hajj, do it during Umrah."
[Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing a cloak with traces of yellow. He asked, "How should I perform Umrah?" The Prophet ﷺ received a revelation and covered himself with a garment. He said, "I wished to see the Prophet ﷺ after receiving the revelation." Umar lifted the edge of the garment and said, "I looked at him and he had a yellowish complexion." When I left, he asked, "Where is the person asking about Umrah? Wash away the traces of yellow or blemish and take off your cloak. Perform Umrah in the way you would in your Hajj."

[Machine] I sat with Abu Hanifa in Mecca when a man came to him and said, "I wore two socks while in a state of Ihram," or he said, "I wore trousers while in a state of Ihram, doubting whether Ibrahim ﷺ did the same." Abu Hanifa said to him, "You owe a penalty." I then asked the man, "Did you find sandals or did you find a lower garment?" He replied, "No." I said, "O Abu Hanifa, this man claims that he did not find any." Abu Hanifa said, "It is the same whether he found or did not find them."
'Whoever cannot find an Izar, let him wear pants, and whoever cannot find sandals, let him wear khuffs." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2672)
[Machine] The translation is: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Underwear is for those who cannot find a waist wrapper (izār), and slippers are for those who cannot find shoes."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pants are for those who cannot find a lower garment (izār), and sandals are for those who cannot find two shoes."
[Machine] He said, "Pants are for those who do not find a loincloth, and sandals are for those who do not find shoes." I said, "So what about your companion who says such and such?"

“He should not wear a shirt, or turbans (or head cover), pants or pajamas, hooded cloaks and no leather socks, unless he cannot find sandals, in which case he may wear leather socks but should cut them to below the ankles. And he should not wear any clothes that have been touched (dyed) with saffron or Wars.”* (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2929)

I heard the Prophet ﷺ delivering a sermon at ʿArafat saying, "If a Muhrim does not find slippers, he could wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather, but he has to cut short the Khuffs below the ankles), and if he does not find an Izar (a waist sheet for wrapping the lower half of the body) he could wear trousers." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1841)

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever cannot get an Izar, can wear trousers, and whoever cannot wear sandals can wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather)." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5804)
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, when he was in ‘Aqiq: “Someone came to me from my Lord and said: ‘Pray in this blessed valley and say: (I intend to do) ‘Umrah in Hajj.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2976)
"We, the Companions of the Prophet, entered Ihram for Hajj only, and nothing else. We came to Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hajjah, and the Prophet commanded us: "Exit Ihram and make it Umrah. He heard that we were saying: 'when there are only five days between us and 'Arafat he commands us to exit Ihram and we will go out to Mina with our male members dripping with semen (because of recent intimacy with our wives)?' the Prophet stood up and addressed us, saying: 'I have heard what you said. I am the most righteous and the most pious of you, and were it not for the Hadi I would have exited Ihram. If I had known what I know now, I would not have from Yemen and he said: 'for what did you enter Ihram?' He said: 'For that for which the Messenger of Allah entered Ihram.' Suraq bin Malik bin Jushum said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that this Umrah of ours is for this year only or for all time?' He said: 'It is for all time." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2805)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever wishes to perform Hajj, let them do so, and whoever wishes to perform Umrah, let them do so." So some of us performed Hajj and some of us performed Umrah. I, however, performed Umrah. When we reached Sarif, I mentioned menstruation. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me while I was crying and I said, "I wish I had not performed my Umrah this year." ' Aisha said, "We set out with Messenger of Allah ﷺs in the months of Hajj, and (in) the nights of Hajj, and at the time and places of Hajj and in a state of Hajj. We dismounted at Sarif (a village six miles from Mecca). The Prophet ﷺ then addressed his companions and said, "Anyone who has not got the Hadi and likes to do Umra instead of Hajj may do so (i.e. Hajj-al-Tamattuʿ) and anyone who has got the Hadi should not finish the Ihram after performing ' ʿUmra). (i.e. Hajj-al-Qiran). Aisha added, "The companions of the Prophet ﷺ obeyed the above (order) and some of them (i.e. who did not have Hadi) finished their Ihram after Umra." Messenger of Allah ﷺ and some of his companions were resourceful and had the Hadi with them, they could not perform Umra (alone) (but had to perform both Hajj and Umra with one Ihram). Aisha added, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and saw me weeping and said, "What makes you weep, O Hantah?" I replied, "I have heard your conversation with your companions and I cannot perform the Umra." He asked, "What is wrong with you?' I replied, ' I do not offer the prayers (i.e. I have my menses).' He said, ' It will not harm you for you are one of the daughters of Adam, and Allah has written for you (this state) as He has written it for them. Keep on with your intentions for Hajj and Allah may reward you that." Aisha further added, "Then we proceeded for Hajj till we reached Mina and I became clean from my menses. Then I went out from Mina and performed Tawaf round the Kaʿba." Aisha added, "I went along with the Prophet ﷺ in his final departure (from Hajj) till he dismounted at Al-Muhassab (a valley outside Mecca), and we too, dismounted with him." He called ' ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr and said to him, ' Take your sister outside the sanctuary of Mecca and let her assume Ihram for ' ʿUmra, and when you had finished ' ʿUmra, return to this place and I will wait for you both till you both return to me.' " ' Aisha added, " So we went out of the sanctuary of Mecca and after finishing from the ' ʿUmra and the Tawaf we returned to the Prophet ﷺ at dawn. He said, 'Have you performed the ' ʿUmra?' We replied in the affirmative. So he announced the departure amongst his companions and the people set out for the journey, and the Prophet: too left for Medina.''
