Ash-Sha'bi said, "A man came to 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr when there were some people sitting with him. He stepped over them in order to reach him. They stopped him and 'Abdullah said, 'Leave the man.' He approached until he sat with him and then said, 'Tell me something which you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.' 'Abdullah said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe. An emigrant (muhajir) is someone who abandons what Allah has forbidden."'"

أَخْبِرْنِي بِشَيْءٍ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْمُسْلِمُ مِنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ مَا نَهَى اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue or his hands. And a Muhajir (an emigrant) is the one who gives up (abandons) all what Allah has forbidden."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: «الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ، وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ مَا نَهَى اللَّهُ عَنْهُ»*.

A Muslim is he from whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe.

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

‘Amir said “A man came to ‘Abd Allaah bin ‘Amr while the people were with him. He sat with him and said “Tell me anything that you heard from the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ”. He said “I hears the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ say “A Muslim is he from whose tongue and hand the Muslims remain safe and an emigrant is he who abandons what Allaah has prohibited.””

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Muslim is the one from (the harm of) whose tongue and hand (other) Muslims are safe, and the believer is the one with whom the people trust their blood and their wealth."

رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى دِمَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ

that the Prophet ﷺ was asked: "Which of the Muslims is most virtuous?" He said: "The one from (the harm of) whose tongue and hand (other) Muslims are safe."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سُئِلَ أَىُّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَفْضَلُ قَالَ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe, and the believer is the one from whom the people's lives and wealth are safe."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى دِمَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ

"I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and the Muhajir is the one who forsakes (Hajara) that which Allah has forbidden to him."

[AI] I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe."

سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَدَعْنِي وَمَا وَجَدْتَ فِي وَسْقِكَ يَوْمَ الْيَرْمُوكِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

[AI] I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I do not ask you about the Torah. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe.'"

سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَا أَسْأَلُكَ عَنِ التَّوْرَاةِ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُرَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

He said, "A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe." He then asked, "Do you know who the believer is?" They said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "A believer is one whom the believers trust with their lives and wealth." And a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who abandons evil and sinful deeds."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ تَدْرُونَ مَنِ الْمُسْلِمُ؟ قَالُوا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ قَالَ تَدْرُونَ مَنِ الْمُؤْمِنُ؟ قَالُوا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ السُّوءَ فَاجْتَنَبَهُ

A Muslim is he from whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe. (Using translation from Muslim 41)

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The believer is the one whom people trust, and the Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe. The migrant is the one who refrains from causing harm. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, a person does not enter Paradise if his neighbor is not safe from his mischief."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ السُّوءَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ عَبْدٌ لَا يَأْمَنُ جَارُهُ بَوَائِقَهُ

[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ who said, "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ

[AI] Amr ibn Malik al-Janbi narrated that Fadalah ibn Ubayd said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "Should I not inform you about the believer? A believer is one whom people trust with their wealth and lives. As for a Muslim, he is one from whose tongue and hand people are safe. And a Mujahid is one who strives against his own self in obedience to Allah. And a Muhajir is one who abandons sins and wrongdoings."

عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ؟ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذَّنُوبَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "Should I not inform you of who a Muslim is? A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe, and a believer is one whom people trust with their lives and wealth. And a migrant is one who avoids sins and wrongdoings, and a warrior in the cause of Allah is one who strives against their own desires in obedience to Allah."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ مَنِ الْمُسْلِمُ؟ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذَّنُوبَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللهِ

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe, and the believer is the one from whom the people's lives and wealth are safe." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4995)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى دِمَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ۔»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most complete of believers is the one who the Muslims are safe from his tongue and hand."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَكْمَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "Shall I inform you about the believer? The believer is the one whom people trust with their lives and wealth. And a Muslim is one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe. And the Mujahid (striver in the cause of Allah) is the one who strives against his soul in obedience to Allah. And the Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who emigrates from sins and wrongdoing." There is another addition to the condition of being a Muslim that Al-Dhahabi omitted in his summary.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ؟ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةٍ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذُّنُوبَ» وَزِيَادَةٌ أُخْرَى عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهَا سكت عنه الذهبي في التلخيص

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The believer is the one whom people trust, and the Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand Muslims are safe. And the migrant is the one who leaves evil. By the One in whose hand is my soul, no one enters Paradise without his neighbors being safe from his harm."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ السُّوءَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ عَبْدٌ لَا يَأْمَنُ جَارُهُ بَوَائِقَهُ»

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the people are safe, and the believer is the one from whom the people's lives and wealth are safe." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4995)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The Muslim who truly submits to Islam is the one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَسْلَمُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِسْلَامًا مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

Verily a person asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) who amongst the Muslims was better. Upon this (the Holy Prophet) remarked: From whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe. (Using translation from Muslim 40)

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيُّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَ «مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "The believer is the one who is trusted by people, and the Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe. And the migrant is the one who migrates from evil. By the One in whose hand is my soul, no one shall enter Paradise if their neighbor is not safe from their harm."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «الْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَاجَرَ السُّوءَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ عَبْدٌ لَا يَأْمَنُ جَارُهُ بَوَائِقَهُ»

[AI] "Amr ibn Malik al-Janbi narrated that Fadalah ibn Ubayd said: The Messenger of Allahﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, 'Shall I not inform you about the believer? عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي فَضَالَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ وَالْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ النَّاسُ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذُّنُوبَ»

عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيِّ أَنَّ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ هَذَا يَوْمٌ حَرَامٌ وَبَلَدٌ حَرَامٌ فَدِمَاؤُكُمْ وَأَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَرَامٌ مِثْلُ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ وَهَذِهِ الْبَلْدَةِ إِلَى يَوْمٍ تَلْقَوْنَهُ وَحَتَّى دَفْعَةٌ دَفَعَهَا مُسْلِمٌ مُسْلِمًا يُرِيدُ بِهَا سُوءًا حَرَامًا وَسَأُخْبِرُكُمْ مَنِ الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ الْخَطَايَا وَالذُّنُوبَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُ مَنْ جَاهَدَ نَفْسَهُ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ

عَن رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قال المسلم من سلم المسلمون من لسانه ويده والمؤمن من أمنه الناس على أموالهم ودمائهم وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لاَ نعلمُهُ يُرْوَى عَن أَبِي هُرَيرة إلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

[AI] "A man said, 'O Messenger of Allah, who is the Muslim?' He ﷺ said, 'The Muslims are those whom other Muslims are safe from their tongue and hand.'"

رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا الْمُسْلِمُ؟ قَالَ «مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

Verily a person asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) who amongst the Muslims was better. Upon this (the Holy Prophet) remarked: From whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe. (Using translation from Muslim 40)

[AI] Narrated by Amr ibn Malik Al-Janbi, from Fadalah ibn 'Ubayd, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage: "Shall I not inform you about the believer? The believer is the one whom people trust with their wealth and lives. The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe. The Mujahid is the one who strives against his own self in obedience to Allah. And the Muhajir is the one who abandons sins and vices."

The Prophet ﷺ said, "A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands. And a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who gives up (abandons) all what Allah has forbidden." (Using translation from Bukhārī 10)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

"I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and the Muhajir is the one who forsakes (Hajara) that which Allah has forbidden to him." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4996)

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ وَالْمُهَاجِرُ مَنْ هَجَرَ مَا نَهَى الله عَنْهُ» اللَّفْظُ لِيُوسُفَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A believer is one whom people trust. Surely, a migrant is one who avoids evil. Surely, a Muslim is one from whom his neighbor is safe. By the One in whose hand is my soul, a man does not enter Paradise if his neighbor is not safe from his harm."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْمُؤْمِنُ مَنْ أَمِنَهُ النَّاسُ أَلَا إِنَّ الْمُهَاجِرَ مَنْ هَجَرَ السَّوْءَ أَلَا إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ مَنْ سَلِمَ مِنْهُ جَارُهُ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ رَجُلٌ لَا يَأْمَنُ جَارُهُ بَوَائِقَهُ»

A Muslim is he from whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe. (Using translation from Muslim 41)

"أَسْلَمُ المسْلِمِينَ إِسْلامًا مَنْ سَلِمَ المسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ، ويَدهِ".

Some people asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?" He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands." (Using translation from Bukhārī 11)

"أفضلُ المسلمين من سَلِمَ المسلمون من لسانِه ويَده".
