[Machine] I heard Ibn Abi Awfa saying, "I participated in seven expeditions with the Prophet ﷺ and we would eat locusts together."
[Machine] There is no harm in it, and I have participated in seven battles with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we used to eat it.
[Machine] We participated in seven or six expeditions with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and during them we used to eat locusts.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was asked about locusts and he said, "I do not eat them, nor do I prohibit them." Abu Dawood said.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The majority of the soldiers of Allah on Earth are locusts. I do not eat them nor do I forbid them." Abu Ali al-Rudhbari reported to us that Muhammad ibn Bakr informed us, Abu Dawood narrated to us, Nasr ibn Ali and Ali ibn Abdullah said, Zakariya ibn Yahya ibn Amarah narrated from Abu al-Awam al-Jazzar from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about them, and he said the same. Ali, whose name was Fa'id, meaning Abu al-Awam, said Abu Dawood narrated it and Hammad ibn Salamah also narrated it from Abu al-Awam from Abu Uthman from the Prophet ﷺ . Salman was not mentioned. The sheikh, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "If this is authentic, it also indicates permissibility because if it is not forbidden, then it is allowed. It is only not eaten due to contamination. And Allah knows best."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Two dead things are permissible for us (to consume) and two types of blood: the carcass and the locust, and the two types of blood are the liver and spleen." This narration was reported by Isma'il ibn Abi Uwais, through Abdul Rahman and Abdullah, and Usamah ibn Zaid ibn Aslam, through their fathers. It was also narrated by Sulaiman ibn Bilal, through Zaid ibn Aslam, from Abdullah ibn Umar, who said: "Two dead things have been made halal for us." And this is the authentic version.
[Machine] We went out with the prophet ﷺ to Khaybar, and with Umar ibn Al-Khattab, there was a pit with locusts in it that he had covered with his hand. He would then withdraw his hand and take some of them and give them to us to eat, and the prophet ﷺ would watch. Anas said, "Then we returned to Madinah, and we would bring it and buy it, and we would increase it and dry it on top of mats, and we would eat it for a while."
[Machine] He, Abdullah ibn Umar, entered upon Zaynab, the wife of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and a dish of dried locusts in butter was brought near to them. She said, "Eat, O Egyptian, from this, perhaps it is more beloved to you than this (locusts)." He said, "I said, 'We love locusts." She said, "O Egyptian, a prophet from the prophets asked Allah for meat of a bird that had no flesh on it, and Allah provided him with whales and locusts." Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi informed us, they said: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub informed us, he said: Abu Utbah Ahmad ibn al-Faraj informed us, he said: Baqiyyah informed us, he said: I heard Sudi ibn Ajlan, Abu Umamah al-Bahili, say, "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed Maryam, the daughter of Imran, asked her Lord to feed her with flesh and blood that didn't have a mother. So Allah fed her dried locusts. She said, 'O Allah, let me live without breastfeeding and follow between me and people without being carried.' I said, 'O Abu al-Fadl, what does "being carried" mean?' He said, 'It means a voice.'"
[Machine] The wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to eat locusts and share them among themselves. Yazid said, "So I asked Saeed, 'Did you hear this from Anas?'" He said, "Yes."
[Machine] Abu Ubaydah Al-Qahtani is a small type of grasshopper that is made from palm leaves and does not have feathers. It has been narrated to us from Ja'far ibn Muhammad from his father from Ali that he said, "All whales and locusts are intelligent."
[Machine] That Abu Sa'id al-Khudri used to see his sons and family eating locusts, and he would not stop them nor would he eat it himself. Zaynab said, "I see that he found it repulsive."
