Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that he met Zaid bin ʿAmr Nufail at a place near Baldah and this had happened before Messenger of Allah ﷺ received the Divine Inspiration. Messenger of Allah ﷺ presented a dish of meat (that had been offered to him by the pagans) to Zaid bin ʿAmr, but Zaid refused to eat of it and then said (to the pagans), "I do not eat of what you slaughter on your stonealtars (Ansabs) nor do I eat except that on which Allah's Name has been mentioned on slaughtering." رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ لَقِيَ زَيْدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ بِأَسْفَلِ بَلْدَحَ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْوَحْيُ فَقَدَّمَ إِلَيْهِ سُفْرَةً فِيهَا لَحْمٌ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي لَا آكُلُ مِمَّا تَذْبَحُونَ عَلَى أَنْصَابِكُمْ وَلَا آكُلُ إِلَّا مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ  

‘Ali was asked: Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tell you anything that was only for you? He said. He did not tell us anything that was only for us without telling all other people, except that which is in the sheath of this sword of mine. He brought out a document on which it was written: ʿMay Allah curse the one who slaughters in the name of something other than Allah, may Allah curse the one who steals the boundary markers, may Allah curse the one who curses his father and may Allah curse the one who gives refuge to an offender.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 954)   

سُئِلَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ هَلْ خَصَّكُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِشَيْءٍ؟ قَالَ مَا خَصَّنَا بِشَيْءٍ لَمْ يَعُمَّ بِهِ النَّاسَ كَافَّةً إِلَّا مَا كَانَ فِي قِرَابِ سَيْفِي هَذَا قَالَ فَأَخْرَجَ صَحِيفَةً فَإِذَا فِيهَا لَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ ذَبَحَ لِغَيْرِ اللهِ وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ سَرَقَ مَنَارَ الْأَرْضِ وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ لَعَنَ وَالِدَيْهِ وَلَعَنَ اللهُ مَنْ آوَى مُحْدِثًا
