Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Mamar al-Ansari from Abu Yunus, the mawla of A'isha, from A'isha that she overheard a man standing at the door saying to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Messenger of Allah, I get up in the morning junub, in a state of major ritual impurity, and want to fast," and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I too get up in the morning junub and want to fast, so I do ghusl and fast." [Machine] A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, the morning comes upon me while I am in a state of sexual impurity. Should I fast on that day?" I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Perhaps the morning came upon me while I was in a state of sexual impurity, so I performed ablution, took a bath, prayed the morning prayer, and observed fasting on that day." The man said, "Indeed, you are not like us. Allah has forgiven you for your past and future sins." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I hope to be among those who fear Allah the most and have the most knowledge of what I should avoid."

Wudu washes away sins

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When a Muslim —or a believer— performs wudu and (1) washes his face, every sin that his eyes have looked at comes out from his face with the water, or with the last drop of water. (2) When he washes his hands, every sin that his hands have committed comes out from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water. (3) When he washes his feet, every sin that his feet have walked to comes out with the water, or with the last drop of water; until he emerges purified of sins.”

One day we went to 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud after we had observed the dawn prayer and we paid salutation at the door. He permitted us to enter, but we stayed for a while at the door, when the slave-girl came out and said: Why don't you come in? So we went in and (we found 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud) sitting and glorifying Allah (i. e. he was busy in dhikr) and he said: What obstructed you from coming in though you had been granted permission for it? We said: There was nothing (behind it) but we entertained the idea that some inmate of the house might be sleeping. He said: Do you presume any idleness on the part of the family of Ibn Umm 'Abd (the mother of Abdullah b. Mas'ud)? He was again busy with the glorification of Allah till he thought that the sun had risen. He said: Girl, see whether (the sun) has arisen. She glanced but it had not risen (by that time). He was again busy with the glorification (of Allah) and he (again) thought that the sun had arisen. She glanced (and confirmed) that, it had risen. Upon this he ('Abdullah b. Mas'ud) said: Praise be to Allah Who did not call us to account for our sins today. Mahdi said: I think that he said, He did not destroy us for our sins. One among the people said: I recited all the mufassal surahs during the night. 'Abdullah said: (You must have recited them) like the (recitation) of poetry. I heard (the Holy Prophet) combining (the sarahs) and I remember the combinations which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made In the recitation (of surahs). These were constituted of eighteen mufassal surahs and two surahs (commencing with) Ha-Mim.

I know the last of the inhabitants of Paradise to enter it and the last of the inhabitants of Hell to come out of it. He is a man who would be brought on the Day of Resurrection and it will be said: Present his minor sins to him, and withhold from him his serious sins. Then the minor sins would be placed before him, and it would be said: On such and such a day you did so and so and on such and such a day you did so and so. He would say: Yes. It will not be possible for him to deny, while he would be afraid lest serious sins should be presented before him. It would be said to him: In place of every evil deed you will have a good deed. He will say: My Lord! I have done things I do not see here. I indeed saw the Messenger of Allah laugh till his front teeth were exposed.
