Abdullah ˹b. Masud˺ was mentioned in the presence of Abdullah b. Amr, and he said: That is a man whom I will continue to love after I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Learn the recitation of the Quran from four: from Abdullah b. Masud," and he began with him, "and Salim, the freedman of Abu Hudhayfah, and Ubayy b. Kaab, and Muadh b. Jabal." He said: I do not know whether he began with Ubayy or with Muadh.

ذُكِرَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ: ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ مَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «اسْتَقْرِئُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ: مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فَبَدَأَ بِهِ، وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ، وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ». قَالَ: لاَ أَدْرِي بَدَأَ بِأُبَىٍّ أَوْ بِمُعَاذٍ.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ neither talked in an insulting manner nor did he ever speak evil intentionally. He used to say, "The most beloved to me amongst you is the one who has the best character and manners." He added, " Learn the Qur'an from (any of these) four persons. ʿAbdullah bin Masʿud, Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubai bin Kaʿb, and Muʿadh bin Jabal."

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَاحِشًا وَلاَ مُتَفَحِّشًا وَقَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ أَحَبِّكُمْ إِلَىَّ أَحْسَنَكُمْ أَخْلاَقًا وَقَالَ اسْتَقْرِئُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Learn the recitation of Qur'an from four persons: Ibn Masʿud, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubai and Muʿadh bin Jabal."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ اسْتَقْرِئُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنَ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَأُبَىٍّ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ

ʿAbdullah bin Masud was mentioned before ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr who said, "That is a man I still love, as I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying 'Learn the recitation of Qur'an from four from ʿAbdullah bin Masʿud -- he started with him--Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudaifa, Muʿadh bin Jabal and Ubai bin Kaʿb."

ذُكِرَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَبَدَأَ بِهِ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ

ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr mentioned ʿAbdullah bin Masud and said, "I shall ever love that man, for I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Take (learn) the Qur'an from four: ʿAbdullah bin Masud, Salim, Muʿadh and Ubai bin Kaʿb.' "

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ وَمُعَاذٍ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ

We used to go to Abdullah b. 'Amr and talk to him, Ibn Numair said: One day we made a mention of Abdullah b. Mas'ud, whereupon he said: You have made mention of a person whom I love more than anything else. I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Learn Qur'an from four persons: Ibn Umm 'Abd (i. e. 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud) he started from him-then Mu'adh b. Jabal and Ubayya b. Ka'b, then Salim the ally of Abu Hudhaifa.

فَذَكَرْنَا يَوْمًا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ ذَكَرْتُمْ رَجُلاً لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ شَىْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِهِ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ

We were in the company of Abdullah b 'Amr that we made a mention of a hadith from Abdullah b. Mas'ud; thereupon he said: That is a person whose love ever remains (fresh in my heart) after I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Learn Qur'an from four persons: Ibn Umm 'Abd, i e. Abdullah b. Mas'ud and he started from his name-then Ubayy b. Ka'b and Mu'adh b Jabal. Zuhri did not make a mention of the words yaquluhu in his narration

فَذَكَرْنَا حَدِيثًا عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ذَاكَ الرَّجُلَ لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ شَىْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُهُ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةِ نَفَرٍ مِنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِهِ وَمِنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمِنْ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَمِنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَحَرْفٌ لَمْ يَذْكُرْهُ زُهَيْرٌ قَوْلُهُ يَقُولُهُ

They made a mention of Ibn Mas'ud before 'Abdullah b. Amr, whereupon he said: He is a person whose love is always fresh in my heart after I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Learn the recita- tion of the Qur'an from four persons: from Ibn Mas'ud, Salim, the ally of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubayy b. Ka'b, Mu'adh b. Jabal.

ذَكَرُوا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ اسْتَقْرِئُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Take the Qur'an from four: From Ibn Mas'ud, Ubayy bin Ka'b, Mu'adh bin Jabal, and Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

[AI] "Verily, that is a man whom I still love forever. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Take the Qur'an from four: from Ibn Umm Abd, and he began with it, and from Mu'adh, and from Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfa.' Ya'la said, 'And I forgot the fourth.'"

كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَذُكِرَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ذَاكَ لَرَجُلٌ لَا أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ أَبَدًا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ عَنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِهِ وَعَنْ مُعَاذٍ وَعَنْ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ يَعْلَى وَنَسِيتُ الرَّابِعَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take the Qur'an from four individuals: Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Mu'adh, Ubayy, and Salim, the mawla of Abu Hudhayfah. It has a sound chain of narration, although they did not compile it into a book." It is considered weak.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَمَنْ مُعَاذٍ وَمَنْ أُبَيٍّ وَمَنْ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ «صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» ضعيف

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ who said, "Take the Quran from four individuals: two from the Muhajireen and two from the Ansar. They are Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubay bin Ka'b, and Mu'adh bin Jabal." And he specifically singled out Abdullah bin Mas'ud with a word.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ خُذُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ رَجُلَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَرَجُلَيْنِ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَقَالَ وَخَصَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ بِكَلِمَةٍ

[AI] "I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, 'Recite the Quran from four people - Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Mu'adh ibn Jabal, and Ubay ibn Ka'b.'"

لَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ مُنْذُ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ»

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Learn the Quran from four people: Ubay ibn Ka'b, Mu'adh ibn Jabal, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, and Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ اقْرَءُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ «فَبَدَأَ بِهِ» وَمِنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Learn from four: Abdullah, Sālim, the servant of Abu Hudhaifah." Shu'bah said, "He started with these two, and Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Mu'adh ibn Jabal." He said, "I do not know which of the two he started with."

ذُكِرَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَقَالَ ذَلِكَ رَجُلٌ لَا أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَمَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «اسْتَقْرِئُوا مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ» قَالَ شُعْبَةُ «بَدَأَ بِهَذَيْنِ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ» قَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهِمَا بَدَأَ»

I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "Learn the recitation of Qur'an from four persons: Ibn Masʿud, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubai and Muʿadh bin Jabal." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3806)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «اسْتَقْرِئُوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَسَالِمٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Recite four (Surahs): Abdullah bin Mas'ud mentioned Surah Umm Hafsa, Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, and Ubayy bin Ka'b, and Mu'adh bin Jabal."

ʿAbdullah bin Masud was mentioned before ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr who said, "That is a man I still love, as I heard the Prophet ﷺ saying 'Learn the recitation of Qur'an from four from ʿAbdullah bin Masʿud -- he started with him--Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudaifa, Muʿadh bin Jabal and Ubai bin Kaʿb."
