The people asked: Tell us a word which we repeat in the morning, evening and when we rise. So he commanded us to say: "O Allah! Creator of Heavens and Earth; Knower of all that is hidden and open; Thou art the Lord of everything; the angels testify that there is no god but Thee, for we seek refuge in Thee from the evil within ourselves, from the evil of the Devil accused and from the evil of his suggestion about partnership with Allah, and that we earn sin for ourselves or drag it to a Muslim."
قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَدِّثْنَا بِكَلِمَةٍ نَقُولُهَا إِذَا أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَمْسَيْنَا وَاضْطَجَعْنَا فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَالْمَلاَئِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّكَ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ فَإِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَنْ نَقْتَرِفَ سُوءًا عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا أَوْ نَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ
“Abu Bakr said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, command me with something that I may say when I reach morning and evening.’ He said: ‘Say: “O Allah Knower of the Unseen and the Seen, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except You, I seek refuge from You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk (Allāhumma ʿālimal-ghaibi wash-shahādati fāṭiras-samāwāti wal-arḍ, rabba kulli shai’in wa malīkahu, ash-hadu an lā ilāha illā anta, aʿūdhu bika min sharri nafsī wa min sharrish-shaiṭāni washirkihi).’” He said: ‘Say it when you reach morning, and evening, and when you go to bed.’”

“I came to ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr and said to him: ‘Report something to me that you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ So he set forth before me a scroll and said: ‘This is what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote for me.’” He said: “So I looked in it and found in it: ‘Indeed, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “O Messenger of Allah, teach me what to say at morning and afternoon.” He said: “O Abu Bakr, say: ‘O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, there is none worthy of worship except You, Lord of everything and its Owner, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his Shirk, or that I should do some evil to myself or bring it upon a Muslim (Allāhumma fāṭiras-samāwāti wal-arḍi, ʿālimal-ghaibi wash-shahādati, lā ilāha illā anta, rabba kulli shai’in wa malīkahu, aʿūdhu bika min sharri nafsī wa min sharrish-shaiṭāni wa sharakihi, wa an aqtarifa ʿalā nafsī sū’an, aw ajurrahu ilā muslim).’”
سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَلْقَى إِلَىَّ صَحِيفَةً فَقَالَ هَذَا مَا كَتَبَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَنَظَرْتُ فِيهَا فَإِذَا فِيهَا إِنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقَ ؓ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِّمْنِي مَا أَقُولُ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشَرَكِهِ وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ
O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may say in the morning and in the evening and when I go to bed. He said: ʿSay: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth. Knower of the unseen and the seen – or he said: O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth - Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and the evil of the Shaitan and the shirk to which he calls people.” It was narrated that Ya'la bin ʿAta' said: I heard 'Amr bin 'Asim bin ‘Abdullah... a similar report.

Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to say, in the morning, in the evening and when I went to bed at night: ʿO Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth. Knower of the unseen and the seen. You are the Lord and Sovereign of all things. I bear witness that there is no god but You alone with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and the evil of the shaitan and the shirk to which he calls, and lest I wrong myself or wrong another Muslim.ʿ
قَالَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقُ أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ أَقُولَ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ وَإِذَا أَخَذْتُ مَضْجَعِي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاواتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكُهُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ أَعُوذُبِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ

AbuBakr as-Siddiq said: Messenger of Allah! command me something to say in the morning and in the evening. ذِكْرُ مَا يَقُولُ الْمَرْءُ عِنْدَ الصَّبَاحِ وَالْمَسَاءِ
O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may say in the morning and in the evening and when I go to bed. He said: ʿSay: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth. [Machine] Shall I teach you the words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach Abu Bakr when he wanted to sleep? We said, "Yes." He said, "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, You are the Lord of everything and its King. I bear witness that there is no deity except You alone, with no partner, and the angels bear witness too. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the devil and his associates. I seek refuge in You from causing harm to myself or causing harm to a Muslim."
أَلَا أُعِلِّمُكُمْ كَلِمَاتٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُهُنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَ «اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ رَبُّ كِلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكُهُ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَقْرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ»
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say when he wanted to sleep, "O Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Lord of everything and the deity of everything. I bear witness that there is no god but You alone, with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger. The angels bear witness. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Satan, his companions, and I seek refuge in You from committing a sin or bringing it upon a Muslim."
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ حِينَ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَنَامَ «اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ رَبَّ كُلِّ شَىءٍ وَإِلَهَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَقْرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِي إِثْمًا أَوْ أَرُدَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ»

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَقُولَ إِذَا أَصْبَحْنَا وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْنَا وَإِذَا اضْطَجَعْنا عَلَى فُرُشِنَا «اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَإِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ وَشِرْكِهِ وَأَنْ نَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا سُوءًا أَوْ نَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ»
AbuBakr as-Siddiq said: Messenger of Allah! command me something to say in the morning and in the evening. He said: Say "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Who knowest the unseen and the seen, Lord and Possessor of everything. I testify that there is no god but Thee; I seek refuge in Thee from the evil within myself, from the evil of the devil, and his (incitement to) attributing partners (to Allah)." He said: Say this in the morning. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 5067)
قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلِّمْنِي كَلِمَاتٍ أَقُولُهُنَّ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ قَالَ قُلِ اللهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ «قُلْهَا إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتَ وَإِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ»
Abu Bakr said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me something I may say in the morning and in the evening. He said: ʿSay: 'O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear witness that there is no god but You, I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and the evil of the Shuitart and the shirk to which he calls.ʿ And he told him to say it in the morning and in the evening and when going to bed. O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I may say in the morning and in the evening and when I go to bed. He said: ʿSay: O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth. Knower of the unseen and the seen – or he said: O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth - Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear witness that there is no god but You; I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and the evil of the Shaitan and the shirk to which he calls people.” It was narrated that Ya'la bin ʿAta' said: I heard 'Amr bin 'Asim bin ‘Abdullah... a similar report. "اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَوَات وَالأرْضِ عَالِمَ الْغَيبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أنتَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ، وَالْمَلائِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَإِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ أَنْفُسنَا، وَمِنْ شرِّ الشَّيطانِ الرَّجِيِم وَشِرْكِهِ، وَأنْ نَقْتَرفَ عَلَى أنْفُسنَا سُوءًا أَوْ نَجرّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِم" .
"عن أبى بكر قال: أَمَرَنِى رَسُولُ الله ﷺ أَنْ أَقُولَ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتُ وَإِذَا أَمْسَيْتُ، وَإِذَا أَخَذْتُ مَضْجَعِى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ: اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَواتِ وَالأَرْضِ، عَالِم الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ أَنْتَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شىْءٍ وَمَلِيكُهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِى وَشَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشَرَكِهِ، وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَى نَفْسِى سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَى مُسْلِمٍ".
"قُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرضِ عَالِمَ الغَيبِ والشَّهَادَةِ، ربَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَن لا إِلهَ إِلا أَنْتَ، أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي، وَمِن شَرِّ الشَّيطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ، قُلْهَا إِذَا أصْبَحْتَ، وَإذَا أَمْسَيتَ، وإذَا أَخَذْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ".
