The Prophet ﷺ used to invoke Allah at the time of distress, saying, "There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah, the Most Great, the Most Forbearing. There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah, the Lord of the skies and the Earth,˹and˺ the Lord of the Magnificent Throne."

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَدْعُو عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ: «لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say at a time of distress, "lā ilāha illā allāhu al-ʿaẓīm al-ḥalīm, lā ilāha illā allāhu rab al-ʿarsh al-ʿaẓīm, lā ilāha illā allāhu rabbu al-samawāti wa-rabbu al-arḍi wa-rabb al-ʿarsh al-karīm. (There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah, the Most Great, the Most Forbearing; There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne; There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah, the Lord of the Earth and the Lord of the Nobile and Generous Throne.)"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ: «لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ۔»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say at the time of difficulty, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Majestic, the Most Forbearing. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the Tremendous Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the Honourable Throne. أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهِنَّ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

" There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Heaven and the earth, the Lord of the Edifying Throne."

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

when he was in distress, the Prophet of Allah ﷺ would supplicate: “There is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Forbearing, the Wise, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the Noble Throne (Lā ilāha illallāh al-ʿaliyyul ḥalīm, lā ilāha illallāh, rabbul-ʿarshil-ʿaẓīm, lā ilāha illallāh, rabbus-samāwāti wal-arḍi wa rabbul-ʿarshil-karīm).”

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَدْعُو عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْحَلِيمُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

“La ilaha illallahul-Halimul-Karim, Subhan-Allahi Rabbil-‘Arshil-‘Azim, Subhan-Allahi Rabbil-samawatis-sab’i wa Rabbil-‘Arshil-Azim (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous; glory is to Allah the Lord of the Mighty Throne; glory is to Allah, the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Magnificent Throne).” Waki’ said with each wording La ilaha illallahu (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) is to be included.

" There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Heaven and the earth, the Lord of the Edifying Throne." (Using translation from Muslim 2730a)

There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous; there is no god but Allah, the Most High, the Almighty, Glory be to Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the mighty Throne, praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.”

قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ إِذَا قُلْتَهُنَّ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَعَ أَنَّهُ مَغْفُورٌ لَكَ (لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ.)»

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا عَلِيُّ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ إِنْ قُلْتَهُنَّ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ عَلَى أَنَّهُ مَغْفُورٌ لَكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: “Shall I not teach you some words that if you say them, you will be forgiven, even though you are already forgiven. قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عَلِيُّ أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ إِذَا قُلْتَهُنَّ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَعَ أَنَّهُ مَغْفُورٌ لَكَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas on this pulpit narrating that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say these words during distress: "There is no god but Allah, the Almighty, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the mighty throne. There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and the Lord of the mighty throne. Avert from me the evil of so-and-so."

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ اصْرِفْ عَنِّي شَرَّ فُلَانٍ»

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ يَا عَلِيُّ «أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ إِذَا أَنْتَ قُلْتَهُنَّ غُفِرَ لَكَ مَعَ أَنَّهُ مَغْفُورٌ لَكَ؟» تَقُولُ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

The Prophet ﷺ used to say at the time of difficulty, 'La ilaha il-lallah Al-ʿAlimul-Halim. La-ilaha illallah Rabul- Arsh-al-Azim, La ilaha-il-lallah Rabus-Samawati Rab-ul-Ard; wa Rab-ul-Arsh Al- Karim.' (See Hadith No. 356 and 357, Vol. 8) (Using translation from Bukhārī 7426)

[Machine] The Prophet of Allah ﷺ taught them these words to say to the sick person: "There is no god but Allah, the Noble, the Forbearing. Glory be to Allah! Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the Great Throne. And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds."

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَّمَهُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ يَقُولُهُنَّ عَلَى الْمَرِيضِ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْكَرِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ تَبَارَكَ اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

[Machine] Ali said to me, "I will inform you of words that I have not been informed about, whether they are good or bad. If you ask Allah for something and you want to succeed, say, 'There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. He is the Most High, the Almighty. There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. He is the Forbearing, the Generous.'"

قَالَ لِي عَلِيٌّ إِنِّي مُخْبِرُكَ بِكَلِمَاتٍ لَمْ أُخْبِرْ بِهِنَّ حَسَنًا وَلَا حُسَيْنًا إِذَا سَأَلْتَ اللهَ مَسْأَلَةً وَأَنْتَ تُحِبُّ أَنْ تَنْجَحَ فَقُلْ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ»

[Machine] "He said to my son Ja'far, 'Shall I not tell you a statement that I often tell Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn when you ask Allah for any need and you both want it to be fulfilled? Say: "There is no god but Allah, alone without any partners. He is the Forbearing, the Most Generous. There is no god but Allah, alone without any partners. He is the Most High, the Most Great."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِابْنِي جَعْفَرٍ أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمَا حَدِيثًا مَا أُحَدِّثُهُ الْحَسَنَ وَلَا الْحُسَيْنَ إِذَا سَأَلْتُمَا اللهَ حَاجَةً فَأَرَدْتُمَا أَنْ تَنْجَحَا فَقُولَا «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ»

[Machine] The words of Al-Faraj: "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the Most High, the Great. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Mighty Throne. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds." Khalaf ibn Tamim differed in his chain of narration and in his wording.

كَلِمَاتُ الْفَرَجِ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ» [237] خَالَفَهُ خَلَفُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ وَفِي لَفْظِهِ

" There is no god but Allah, the Great, the Tolerant, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne There is no god but Allah, the Lord of the Heaven and the earth, the Lord of the Edifying Throne." (Using translation from Muslim 2730a)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا حَزَبَهُ أَمْرٌ قَالَ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ» ثُمَّ يَدْعُو

Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say at a time of distress, "La ilaha illal-lahu Rabbul-l-'arsh il-'azim, La ilaha illallahu Rabbu-s-samawati wa Rabbu-l-ard, Rabbu-l-'arsh-il-Karim." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6346)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَدْعُو بِهِنَّ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمُ» خَالَفَهُ مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say at a time of distress, "La ilaha illal-lahu Rabbul-l-'arsh il-'azim, La ilaha illallahu Rabbu-s-samawati wa Rabbu-l-ard, Rabbu-l-'arsh-il-Karim." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6346)

أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ دُعَاءً أُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَتْ بِهِ شِدَّةٌ دَعَا بِهِ؟ «لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمُ»

'There is no god but Allah, the Immense, the Forbearing. There is no god but Prophet, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and the Lord of the Immense Throne.'"

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَدْعُو عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

'There is no god but Allah, the Immense, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Immense Throne, there is no god but Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and the Lord of the Immense Throne.' O Allah, avert its evil."

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقُولُ عِنْدَ الْكَرْبِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ اللَّهُمَّ اصْرِفْ شَرَّهُ

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم كَانَ إِذَا نَزَلَ بِهِ أَمْرٌ قَالَ لا إِلَهَ إلاَّ اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْعَظِيمُ لا إِلَهَ إلاَّ الله رب السَّماوَات وَالأَرْضِ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمُ ثُمَّ يَدْعُو

"إِذا خِفْتَ سُلطانًا أو غَيرَهُ، فقُل: لَا إِلَه إلَّا اللهُ الحليمُ الكريمُ، سبْحَانَ اللهِ ربِّ السمواتِ السَّبْع ورَبّ العرشِ العَظيم، لا إلهَ إِلَّا أنْتَ، عز جارُكَ، وَجَل ثنَاؤُكَ".

"كَلمَاتُ الْفَرَج: لَا إِلهَ إلا الله الْحَليمُ الكَرِيمُ, لا إِلهَ إلا الله العَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ، لَا إلهَ إلا الله رَبُّ السَّمَوَاتِ السَّبع وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمُ".

"لَقَنوا مَوْتَاكُمْ: لَا إِلَهَ إلا الله، الحَليمُ الكريمُ، سبحان الله ربِّ السماوات السبع، وَرَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، الْحَمْدُ للهِ ربِّ العَالمِينَ، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيفَ هِيَ للأَحْيَاءِ؟ ، قَال: أَجْوَدُ وَأَجْوَدُ".

"أَلا أُعلِّمُكَ كللمات إِذا قلتَهُنَّ غفر اللَّه لك وإِن كنت مغفورًا لك؟ قلْ: لا إِله إِلا اللَّه العلىُّ العظيم، لا إِله إِلا اللَّهُ الحكيمُ الكريمُ، لا إِله إِلا اللَّهُ سبحانَ اللَّهِ ربِّ السمواتِ السبع وربِّ العرشِ العظيم، الحمد للَّه ربِّ العَالَمِينَ ".

"يَا عَلِيُّ: أَلاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ كلمَاتٍ إِذَا قُلتَهُنَّ غُفِرَ لَكَ عَلَى أنَّهُ مَغْفُورٌ لَكَ؟ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله العَلِىُّ العَظِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله الحَكِيمُ الكَرِيمُ، سُبْحَانَ الله رَبِّ السمَوَاتِ السَّبع وَرَبِّ العَرْشِ العَظِيم، وَالحَمْدُ لله رَبِّ العَالَمِينَ".

"عن عَلِىٍّ قَالَ: عَلَّمَنِى رسولُ اللهِ ﷺ هَؤلاءِ الكَلمِاتِ وَأمَرنِى إِنْ نَزَلَ بِى كَرْبٌ أو شِدَّةٌ أنْ أقُولَها: "لاَ إِله إلاَّ اللهُ الحَلِيمُ الكَرِيمُ، سُبحانَ اللهِ، وتَبارك اللهُ ربُّ العَرْشِ العَظيِم والْحَمد للهِ رَبِّ العَالمِينَ".

"أنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ كَانَ يَدْعُو عِنْدَ الكَرْب بَهَؤُلاَء الكَلِمَات: لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله الْعَظِيمُ الحَلِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله الحَلِيمُ الكَرِيمُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاّ الله رَبُّ العَرْشِ العَظَيم، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الله رَبُّ السَّمَواتِ السَّبعْ وَرَبُّ العَرْشِ الكَرِيم".
