I saw 'Ali performing Wudu'. He washed his hands three times, and rinsed his mouth three times and his nose three times, and he washed his face three times and each forearm three times. Then he wiped his head and washed each foot three times. Then he said: 'This is the Wudu' of the Prophet ﷺ.'"

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا تَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلاَثًا وَتَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاَثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاَثًا وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا ثَلاَثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا ثَلاَثًا قَالَ هَذَا وُضُوءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ

The ablution water was brought to the Messenger ﷺ and he performed ablution; he washed his hands up to wrists three times, then washed his forearms three times. He then rinsed his mouth and snuffed up water three times; then he wiped his head and ears inside and outside.

أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ تَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاَثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ظَاهِرِهِمَا وَبَاطِنِهِمَا

I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do wudoo’: he washed his face three times and his hands three times, and he washed his arms three times each, and wiped his head, and washed his feet thoroughly.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًاوَيَدَيْهِ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ غَسْلًا

I was standing with ‘Uthman bin ʿAffan ؓ and he said: Shall I not tell you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudooʿ? We said: Yes indeed. He called for water and washed his face three times, rinsed his mouth and nose three times, then he washed his hands up to the elbow three times, then he wiped his head and his ears, and washed his feet three times. Then he said: This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did wudooʿ.

أَلا أُنَبِّئُكُمْ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَوَضَّأُ؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى فَدَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا وَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى مِرْفَقَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَوَضَّأُ

I saw ‘Ali ؓ urinate in ar-Rahbah, then he called for water and did wudoo’. He washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth and nose three times, washed his face three times, washed his forearms three times each, wiped his head and washed his feet three times each. Then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do as you have seen me do.

رَأَيْتُ عَلِيًّا بَالَ فِي الرَّحَبَةِ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِمَاءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلاثًا وَتَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَغَسَلَ قَدَمَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا ثُمَّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَلَ كَالَّذِي رَأَيْتُمُونِي فَعَلْتُ

‘Ali ؓ said: Shall I not show you how the Prophet ﷺ of Allah used to do wudooʿ? We said: Yes indeed. He said: Bring me a large vessel and a small vessel of water. He washed his hands three times; took water into his nose three times and blew it out three times; and he washed his face three times; he washed his arms up to the elbows three times; he wiped his head three times; and he washed his feet three times.

عَلِيٌّ أَلا أُرِيكُمْ كَيْفَ كَانَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَوَضَّأُ؟ قُلْنَا بَلَى قَالَ فَأْتُونِي بِطَسْتٍ وَتَوْرٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلاثًا وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا وَاسْتَنْثَرَ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ ثَلاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلاثًا

Some water for wudoo’ was brought to ʿAli ؓ . He rinsed his mouth and nose three times, and washed his face three times, and washed his hands and forearms three times. Then he wiped his head, then he washed his feet. Then he said: This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do wudoo’. Then he recited some Qurʿan. Then he said: This is for the one who is not junub; as for the one who is junub, no - (he should not recite), not even one verse.

أُتِيَ عَلِيٌّ بِوَضُوءٍ فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا وَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ثُمَّ قَالَهَذَا لِمَنْ لَيْسَ بِجُنُبٍ فَأَمَّا الْجُنُبُ فَلا وَلا آيَةَ

The ablution water was brought to the Messenger ﷺ and he performed ablution; he washed his hands up to wrists three times, then washed his forearms three times. He then rinsed his mouth and snuffed up water three times; then he wiped his head and ears inside and outside. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 121)

أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ مَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ظَاهِرِهِمَا وَبَاطِنِهِمَا وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا

[Machine] I heard al-Miqdam bin Ma'di Karib say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought with ablution." So he performed ablution, washed his hands three times, then washed his face three times, then washed his arms three times, then gargled and sniffed water three times, then wiped his head, his ears (both outer and inner parts), and washed his feet three times.

سَمِعْتُ الْمِقْدَامَ بْنَ مَعْدِي كَرِبٍ يَقُولُ «أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِوَضُوءٍ» فَتَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ظَاهِرِهِمَا وَبَاطِنِهِمَا وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا

I saw 'Ali performing Wudu'. He washed his hands three times, and rinsed his mouth three times and his nose three times, and he washed his face three times and each forearm three times. Then he wiped his head and washed each foot three times. Then he said: 'This is the Wudu' of the Prophet ﷺ.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 115)

وَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا وَمَضْمَضَ ثَلَاثًا وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا وَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَأُذُنَيْهِ ظَاهِرِهِمَا وَبَاطِنِهِمَا وَخَلَّلَ أَصَابِعَ قَدَمَيْهِ وَخَلَّلَ لِحْيَتَهُ ثَلَاثًا ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ قَبْلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَلَ كَالَّذِي رَأَيْتُمُونِي فَعَلْتُ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنْ عُثْمَانَ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ

" عَن ابْنِ دَارَةَ قَالَ: رَأيْتُ عُثْمَانَ دَعَا بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَمَضْمَن ثَلاَثًا، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا، وَغَسَل وَجْهَهُ ثَلاَثًا، وَذِرَاعَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأسِهِ ثَلاَثًا، وغَسَلَ قَدَمَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا ثَلاَثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَنْ أَحَبَّ أنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى وُضُوءِ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَهَذَا وضُوءُ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ".

"عن حمران قال: رأيت عثمان توضأ فغسل يديه ثلاثًا، وغسل وجهه ثلاثًا، وغسل ذراعيه ثلاثًا، ومسح رأسه ثلاثًا، ثم غسل قدميه ثلاثًا، ثم قال: رأيت رسول الله ﷺ فتوضأ هكذا وقال: من توضأ دون هذا كفاه".

"عَنْ عَبدِ الله بنِ جَعْفَر، عَنْ عُثْمانَ بنِ عَفَّانَ أَنَّه تَوَضَّأ فَغَسَل يَدَيْه ثَلاثًا، كُلَّ وَاحِدَة مِنْهُما، وَاسْتَنثَر ثَلاثًا، ومَضْمَضَ ثَلاثًا، وَغَسلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا، وغَسَلَ ذِرَاعيْهِ كُلَّ واحدٍ مِنهُما ثَلاثًا ثلاثًا، وَمَسَح بِرَأسِه ثَلاثًا، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا، كُل وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْهُمَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسولَ الله ﷺ يَتَوَضأ هَكَذَا".

"عَنْ شَقِيقِ بنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ عُثَمانَ تَوَضَّأ فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسَتَنْشَقَ ثَلاثًا، وَغسَل وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا، وَخَلَّلَ لِحْيَتَه ثَلاثًا، وَغَسَل ذِرَاعَيْه ثَلاثا ثَلاثا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأسِه ثَلاثا، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْه ثَلاثًا ثلاثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسولَ الله ﷺ فَعَلَ هَذَا".

"عن عبد خير، عن عَلِىٍّ: أَنَّهُ تَوَضَّأَ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلاثًا، وَمَضْمَضَ، وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلاَثًا، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا، وَذِراَعَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا، وَمَسَحَ بِرَأسِهِ ثَلاَثًا، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ ثَلاَثًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: مَنْ أَحَبَّ أنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى وُضُوءِ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ كَامِلًا فَليَنْظُرْ إِلَى هَذَا".

"تَوَضَّأ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ فَغَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلاَثًا وَتَمَضْمَضَ، وَاسْتَنشَقَ ثَلاَثًا، وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلاثًا، وَذرَاعَيْه ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا، وَمَسَحَ رَأسَهُ، وَمَسَحَ ظَاهِرَ أُذُنَيْه وَبَاطِنَهُمَا، وَغَسَلَ رِجْلَيْه ثَلاثًا ثَلاثًا، وَقَالَ: هَذَا الوُضُوءُ، مَنْ زَاد أَوْ نَقَصَ، فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ وأسَاءَ".
