[Machine] "Umm Othman, the daughter of Kareez, converted to Islam."
[Machine] "I saw Uthman ibn Affan on the minbar (pulpit) on Friday wearing a thick cotton garment that was worth four or five dirhams, along with a polished Kufi scarf. He had long hair and a beautiful face."
[Machine] "On Friday, Uthman used to lean on a walking stick. He was the most beautiful of people and he wore two yellow garments, an undergarment and a cloak, until he would reach the pulpit and sit on it."
[Machine] "I have seen Uthman bin Affan, and I have never seen a male or female with a more beautiful face than his."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sent me to Uthman with a message. I found him in a room where there was a curtain. I entered and saw Ruqayyah sitting there. I have never seen two more beautiful people than them. Sometimes, I would look at Ruqayyah, and sometimes I would look at Uthman. When I returned, the Prophet ﷺ asked me, "Did you see them?" I replied, "Yes." He asked, "Did you see a more beautiful couple than them?" I said, "No, O Messenger of Allah. I would look at Ruqayyah sometimes and Uthman sometimes." Abu Al-Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "And this was before the revelation of the verse of Hijab."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon his daughter while she was washing the head of Uthman. He said, "O my daughter, be good to Abu Abdullah, for he resembles my companions in character."

[Machine] I entered upon Ruqayyah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , the wife of Uthman. In her hand, she had a comb. She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out from me a short while ago, and I combed his hair. He asked, 'How do you find Aba Abdullah?' I replied, 'In good condition.' He said, 'Honor him, for he is the most similar of my companions in character.'"
[Machine] Uthman ibn Affan was killed in the midst of the days of the East.
[Machine] I heard Zubayr ibn Bakkar say, "Uthman ibn Affan was killed on Friday, in the eighteenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, in the year thirty-six, after 'Asr prayer. He was eighty-two years old at that time and was fasting."
[Machine] "Uthman was killed at the age of ninety or eighty-eight."
[Machine] "The caliphate of Uthman lasted for twelve years."
[Machine] The consultation took place and people gathered around Uthman for three remaining days of Dhul-Hijjah in the year 23. Then Uthman was killed on a Friday on the 18th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, completing 35 years and his age was 88 years. He used to dye his beard and his caliphate lasted for twelve years.
[Machine] "That Uthman was killed while he was ninety-nine or eighty-eight years old."
[Machine] I heard Malik saying, "Uthman was killed." So, Matruh stood on the pulpit and cursed the tribe of Bani Fulan three times. Then, twelve men came to him, including my grandfather Malik ibn Abi 'Amir, Huwaytib ibn 'Abd al-'Uzza, Hakim ibn Hizam, and 'A'isha bint 'Uthman. They had a torch in their possession, and they carried it to a door. Indeed, his head was saying, "knock knock" on the door until they reached Baqi' cemetery. They differed in performing the funeral prayer for him, and Hakim ibn Hizam or Huwaytib ibn 'Abd al-'Uzza performed the prayer for him. Abdur Rahman doubted, then they wanted to bury him. A man from the Bani Mazin stood up and said, "By Allah, if you bury him with the Muslims, I will inform the people." So they carried him until they reached a place called Hash Kawkab. When they guided him into his grave, 'A'isha bint 'Uthman cried out. Ibn Zubayr said to her, "Be quiet, for by Allah, if you continue, I will strike the eyes that are in your head." When they buried him and leveled the earth on him, Ibn Zubayr said to her, "Shout, what seems to be the reason for you to shout?" Malik bin 'Afan passed by Hash Kawkab before that and would say, "A righteous man will be buried here." Abu al-Qasim al-Hush al-Bustan.
[Machine] "When we reached the evening, I said to them, 'If you leave your companion until morning, they will be able to resemble him. So, take him with you to Baqee' al-Gharqad.' We made a place for him in the chest of the night, then we carried him and a blackness covered us from behind. We guided them until we were about to separate from them, then a caller called out, 'Do not fear, stay steadfast, for we have come to bear witness with you.' And Ibn Hubaysh used to say, 'By Allah, they are the angels.'"
[Machine] "O Commander of the Believers, what do you say about Uthman?" The two men asked him. Ali replied, "What are you asking for? About a man who disbelieved in Allah after having faith and became a hypocrite?" The man said to them, "I am not asking either of you, nor did I come to you." Ali then said to them, "I do not say what they say." They both said to him, "Then why did we kill him?" He said, "I had authority over you, and you misused that authority towards the end of his life and you became angry. And I swear by Allah, I hope that both I and Uthman will be as Allah said, 'And We removed whatever was in their breasts of resentment, [so they became] brothers on thrones facing each other.'"
يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا تَقُولُ فِي عُثْمَانَ؟ فَبَدَرَهُ الرَّجُلَانِ فَقَالَا عَمَّ تَسْأَلُ؟ عَنْ رَجُلٍ كَفَرَ بِاللهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ إِيمَانِهِ وَنَافَقَ؟ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ لَهُمَا لَسْتُ إِيَّاكُمَا أَسْأَلُ وَلَا إِلَيْكُمَا جِئْتُ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ «لَسْتُ أَقُولُ مَا قَالَا» فَقَالَا لَهُ جَمِيعًا فِلِمَ قَتَلْنَاهُ إِذًا؟ قَالَ وُلِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَسَاءَ الْوَلَايَةَ فِي آخِرِ أَيَّامِهِ وَجَزَعْتُمْ فَأَسَأْتُمُ الْجَزَعَ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا وَعُثْمَانُ كَمَا قَالَ اللهُ ﷻ {وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِمْ مِنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَى سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ}
[Machine] Ali addressed the people and said, "O people, I swear by Allah that if only the killer of Uthman enters the Fire, I will not enter it. And if only the killer of Uthman enters Paradise, I will not enter it." When this statement was revealed to him, he was asked about it and he addressed them, saying, "O people, indeed Allah killed Uthman and I am together with him." Hammād narrated that Habib bin al-Shahid informed them, saying, "A Quraishi statement with two meanings." Abu al-Qasim said, "It seems as if he meant, 'Indeed, Allah has killed him and I am also killed with him.'"
[Machine] Ali delivered a sermon to them, but they cut him off from delivering his sermon. He said, "Indeed, I weakened on the day Uthman was killed." He then gave them an example, a parable of three lions and a black, a red, and a white lion who gathered in a dark place. When one of them wanted one of the lions, they gathered against it and prevented it from succeeding. The black and the red lion said to the white lion, "You make us infamous in our gathering." So the white lion invited the black lion until he ate it. Then the white lion said to the red lion, "You make us infamous in our gathering." So let me invite you until I eat you. The red lion said, "Allow me to utter three voices." He said, "Yes, indeed! I was eaten on the day the white lion was eaten. Yes, indeed! I was eaten on the day the white lion was eaten. Yes, indeed! I was eaten on the day the white lion was eaten. Yes, indeed! I weakened on the day Uthman was killed."
[Machine] "By Allah, you have certainly killed him, a pious and upright person," said the person. Then Ashhtar set off and informed Ammar about it. Ammar came back, grieving and said, "By Allah, Ammar will be whipped, Abu Dhar will be exiled, and the invaders will protect the sanctity and say that you have killed him, a pious and upright person." Masrouq said to him, "By Allah, you have not done anything that requires punishment, nor have you endured what you have been inflicted with. It is better for the patient ones." It was as if he had swallowed a stone. And Shabi said, "Hamdaniyyah has never given birth to someone like Masrouq."
[Machine] "We gathered at the house of Makhrama after Uthman was killed. We wanted to take the pledge of allegiance. Abu Jahl bin Hudhaifa said, 'If anyone of you pledges allegiance to us, we will not prevent him from getting revenge.' Ammar bin Yasir said, 'But if it is for the blood of Uthman, then no.' Abu Jahl replied, 'By Allah, O Ibn Sumayyah, we will surely strap him with lashes that have been inflicted on you before, but we will not seek revenge for the blood of Uthman.' So, they left that day without the pledge of allegiance."
[Machine] I was informed by Waththab, who was one of those who witnessed Uthman's era of slavery. He used to stand in front of Uthman and say, "Uthman sent me to you." So, I invited the people for Uthman's proposal, and Ibn Awon said, "I think he said, 'They want something from me?'" He said, "What is it?" I said, "They want to either remove you from your position and say that it is their decision, so choose whoever you want for it, or they want you to cut ties with yourself, and if you refuse these two options, the people will fight against you." He said, "None of these options are necessary." I said, "What do you mean?" He said, "As for removing me from my position, I will not let go of my position, not even for the cost of a thobe. And as for you cutting ties with yourself, I swear by Allah, I would rather be killed than abandon a matter of the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ even if they fight each other after me." Ibn Awon said, "And this is closer to the words of Uthman." As for cutting from myself, I swear by Allah, I knew that my companions were being punished and I did not take revenge for myself. As for killing me, I swear by Allah, if you kill me, you will never be satisfied and you will never fight against an enemy after me." Waththab then stood up and left. We stayed and said, "Perhaps the people are afraid because a man has come who looks like a wolf." He looked out of a door and then came back. Then, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr came with thirteen men until they reached Uthman. Uthman took hold of his beard and said things with it until I heard the sound of his teeth. He said, "Muawiyah is not enough for you, nor is Ibn Amir, nor are your books." Uthman said, "Send me my beard, O son of my brother, send me my beard, O son of my brother." He said, "And I saw him summon a man from the people and he approached him with a pair of scissors until he struck him in his head." I said, "Then what did he do?" He said, "Then they attacked him, by Allah, until they killed him."

He replied, "Because the Prophet ﷺ visited you on the seventh day of his birth, massaged your head and prayed for blessings upon you." Then another man from the Ansar entered upon Uthman and said the same thing. Uthman asked him, "How do you know that?" He replied, "Because the Prophet ﷺ visited you on the seventh day of his birth, massaged your head, and prayed for blessings upon you." Then Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr entered upon Uthman and said, "You are my killer." Uthman asked, "How do you know that, O Na'thal?" He replied, "Because the Prophet ﷺ visited you on the seventh day of his birth, intending to massage your head and pray for blessings upon you, but you turned away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Uthman got angry, leapt upon his chest, grabbed his beard and said, "If you had done that, it would have hurt your father (i.e., made him angry)." He said, "So he stabbed him in the throat with the scissors that were in his hand."

So, I said to her, "O mother of the believers, in what manner was Uthman, the commander of the believers, killed?" She said, "By Allah, he was unjustly killed. May Allah curse the killer. He was driven by Abdullah ibn Abu Bakr, and Allah caused him to be taken to the eyes of the Banu Tamim in disgrace in his house.
