Masrouq said to him, "By Allah, you have not done anything that requires punishment, nor have you endured what you have been inflicted with. It is better for the patient ones." It was as if he had swallowed a stone. And Shabi said, "Hamdaniyyah has never given birth to someone like Masrouq."  

«أَمَا وَاللهِ لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُمُوهُ صَوَّامًا قَوَّامًا» قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ الْأَشْتَرُ فَأَخْبَرَ عَمَّارًا ؓ فَأَتَى عَمَّارٌ مَسْرُوقًا فَقَالَ وَاللهِ لَيُجْلَدَنَّ عَمَّارٌ وَلَيُسَيِّرَنَّ أَبَا ذَرٍّ وَلَيَحْمِيَنَّ الْحِمَى وَتَقُولُ قَتَلْتُمُوهُ صَوَّامًا قَوَّامًا فَقَالَ لَهُ مَسْرُوقٌ «فَوَاللهِ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ وَاحِدًا مِنْ ثِنْتَيْنِ مَا عَاقَبْتُمْ بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُمْ بِهِ وَمَا صَبَرْتُمْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِلصَّابِرِينَ» قَالَ فَكَأَنَّمَا ألْقَمَهُ حَجَرًا قَالَ وَقَالَ الشَّعْبِيُّ «وَمَا وَلَدَتْ هَمْدَانِيَّةٌ مِثْلَ مَسْرُوقٍ»
