The Prophet ﷺ said: A woman whose husband has died must not wear clothes dyed with safflower (usfur) or with red ochre (mishq) and ornaments. She must not apply henna and collyrium.

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا لاَ تَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ وَلاَ الْمُمَشَّقَةَ وَلاَ الْحُلِيَّ وَلاَ تَخْتَضِبُ وَلاَ تَكْتَحِلُ

"The woman whose husband has died should not wear clothes that are dyed with safflower or red clay, and she should not use dye nor kohl."

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا لاَ تَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ وَلاَ الْمُمَشَّقَةَ وَلاَ تَخْتَضِبُ وَلاَ تَكْتَحِلُ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا لَا تَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ وَلَا الْمُمَشَّقَةَ وَلَا الْحُلِيَّ وَلَا تَخْتَضِبُ وَلَا تَكْتَحِلُ»

[AI] Narrated by Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not dye the deceased wife's hair, and do not put kohl on her eyes, and do not apply perfume on her, and do not cover her with a dyed garment, and do not wear jewelry."

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تُخَضِّبِ الْمُتَوَفَّاةُ زَوْجُهَا وَلَا تَكْتَحِلْ وَلَا تُطَيِّبْ وَلَا تَلْبَسْ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا وَلَا تَلْبَسْ حُلِيًّا»

[AI] "The deceased wife does not mourn except for her husband, she does not put on henna, perfume, or wear colored clothing except for a garment made of cotton." Hisham narrates from Hafsah, from Umm Atiyyah, from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ something similar to this.

«الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا لَا تُحِدُّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ وَلَا تَكْتَحِلُ وَلَا تَخْتَضِبُ وَلَا تَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا ثَوْبَ عَصْبٍ وَلَا تَطَيَّبُ» وَقَالَ هِشَامٌ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِثْلَهُ

[AI] Narrated by Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , that the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said: "The deceased should not be clothed in saffron-colored garments, with embroidery, jewelry, or a coating of henna. This is according to the narration of Ibrahim ibn Al-Harith, and As-Saghani added in his narration: "And Badayl ibn Maisarah told me that Al-Hasan ibn Muslim said: 'I have not seen them considering patience as a difficulty.'"

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا لَا تَلْبَسُ الْمُعَصْفَرَ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ وَلَا الْمُمَشَّقَةَ وَلَا الْحُلِيَّ وَلَا تَخْتَضِبُ وَلَا تَكْتَحِلُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَزَادَ الصَّغَانِيُّ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي بُدَيْلُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ لَمْ أَرَهُمْ يَرَوْنَ بِالصَّبْرِ بَأْسًا

[AI] Do not dress the deceased in any dyed clothes. She should not wear makeup, adornments, jewelry, or apply perfume. And this is a prohibition.

لَا تَلْبَسُ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا مِنَ الثِّيَابِ الْمُصَبَّغَةِ شَيْئًا وَلَا تَكْتَحِلُ وَلَا تَزَيَّنُ وَلَا تَلْبَسُ حُلِيًّا وَلَا تَخْتَضِبُ وَلَا تُطَيِّبُ وَهَذَا مَوْقُوفٌ

[AI] The deceased husband's wife does not wear makeup, perfume, or adorn herself. She does not wear anything other than a black dress. She does not spend the night anywhere other than her own house, but she visits during the day.

الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا لَا تَكْتَحِلُ وَلَا تُطَيِّبُ وَلَا تَخْتَضِبُ وَلَا تَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا السُّودَ الْمُعَصَّبَ وَلَا تَبِيتُ غَيْرَ بَيْتِهَا وَلَكِنْ تَزُورُ بِالنَّهَارِ

"المُتَوَفى عنها زوجُها لا تلمسُ المُعَصْفَرَة من الثياب ولا المُمَشقة ولا الحُلِيَّ، ولا تختضب، ولا تَكتَحِلُ" .

"لا تَخْتَضِب الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا، وَلا تَكْتَحِل، وَلا تَتَطَيَّب وَلا تَلْبَس ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا، وَلا تَلْبَس حُلِيًّا".

"عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: لاَ تَبِيت (*) المُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا عَنْ بَيْتِهَا، وَلاَ تَطَّيَّب، وَلاَ تَخْتَضِب، وَلاَ تَكْتَحِل، وَلاَ تَمَس طِيبًا، وَلاَ تَلْبَس ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلاَّ ثَوْبَ عَصْب تَحليت بِهِ".

"عن أم سلمة قالت: المتوفى عنها زوجها لا تلبس من الثياب المصبغة شيئًا، ولا تكتحل، ولا تلبس حليًا، ولا تخضب، ولا تطيب".
