[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Nu'manah bint Ja'far, "Why is it that I do not see the bodies of the Banu Ja'far shining bright according to their father's status?" She replied, "No, but they are frequently affected by the evil eye. Shall I perform ruqyah on them?" He said, "Yes", so she presented some words to him that were acceptable, and he said, "Perform ruqyah on them."  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِنُعْمَى بِنْتِ جَعْفَرٍ مَا لِي أَرَى أَجْسَامَ بَنِي جَعْفَرٍ أَنْضَاءَ أَبِهِمْ حَاجَةٌ؟ قَالَتْ لَا وَلَكِنَّهُمْ تُسْرِعُ إِلَيْهِمُ الْعَيْنُ أَفَأَرْقِيهِمْ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَعَرَضَتْ عَلَيْهِ كَلَامًا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ فَقَالَ ارْقِيهِمْ  

[Machine] We prayed Dhuhr or Asr at the mosque of Banī Harithah, then we faced the mosque of Illyas and prayed two units (rak'ahs), then someone informed us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had faced the Kaaba, so men took the place of women and women took the place of men, and we prayed the remaining two units (sajdahs) while facing the Kaaba. Then a man from Banī Harithah told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are men who believed in the unseen."  

صَلَّيْنَا الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ فِي مَسْجِدِ بَنِي حَارِثَةَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَنَا مَسْجِدَ إِيلِيَاءَ فَصَلَّيْنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ جَاءَنَا مَنْ يُحَدِّثُنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدِ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْبَيْتَ الْحَرَامَ فَتَحَوَّلَ الرِّجَالُ مَكَانَ النِّسَاءِ وَالنِّسَاءُ مَكَانَ الرِّجَالِ فَصَلَّيْنَا السَّجْدَتَيْنِ الْبَاقِيَتَيْنِ وَنَحْنُ مُسْتَقْبِلُونَ الْبَيْتَ الْحَرَامَ فَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَارِثَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «أُولَئِكَ رِجَالٌ آمَنُوا بِالْغَيْبِ»  

[Machine] I am near Aisha and she had sacrificed a sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came holding a stick in his hand and threw it away. Then he went to the mosque and performed two units of prayer. After that, he went to his bed and lay down on it. Then he said, "Is there any food?" So we brought him a plate containing barley bread, a portion and a piece of meat. It also had the shank. He said, "So I took a piece of meat, and it seemed to be being consumed. Then Aisha said, "We sacrificed a sheep today, and we did not keep anything but this." She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No, all of it was kept, except this.'"  

إِنِّي لَعِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ وَقَدْ ذَبَحَتْ شَاةً لَهَا فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي يَدَهِ عُصَيَّةٌ فَأَلْقَاهَا ثُمَّ هَوَى إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَصَلَّى فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ هَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَانْبَطَحَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَلْ مِنْ غَدَاءٍ؟ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ بِصَحْفَةٍ فِيهَا خُبْزُ شَعِيرٍ وَفِيهَا كِسْرَةٌ وَقَطْعِهٌ مِنَ الْكَرِشِ وَفِيهَا الذِّرَاعُ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُ قِطْعَةً مِنَ الْكَرِشِ وَإِنَّهَا لَتَنْهَشُهَا إِذْ قَالَتْ ذَبَحْنَا شَاةً الْيَوْمَ فَمَا أَمْسَكْنَا غَيْرَ هَذَا قَالَتْ يَقُولُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا بَلْ كُلُّهَا أُمْسِكَتْ إِلَّا هَذَا»  

[Machine] "We washed the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ , and he ordered us to wash her with sidr (type of plant) three times, if not, then five times, and if not, then more than that, so we saw that more than that is seven times."  

«غَسَّلْنَا ابْنَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَغُسِّلَهَا بِالسِّدْرِ ثَلَاثًا وَإِلَّا فَخَمْسًا وَإِلَّا فَأَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَرَأَيْنَا أَنَّ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ سَبْعًا»  

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , entered the city, he gathered the women in a house, and then Umar ibn al-Khattab stood at the door and greeted, and then he said: I am the Messenger of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , to you, to pledge allegiance to you that you do not steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill your children, nor bring false accusations that you fabricate between your hands and feet, and do not disobey him in Ma'ruf. She said: So we extended our hands from outside the door, and he extended his hand, and we pledged allegiance to him. She said: And he ordered us to go out in the two Eid prayers, the menstruating women and those in postpartum confinement, and he forbade us from going out for a funeral or coming to the Friday prayer. So I said to her: Why don't you disobey him? She said: We obey him.  

لَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ جَمَعَ النِّسَاءَ فِي بَيْتٍ ثُمَّ بَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَامَ عَلَى الْبَابِ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَيْكُنَّ لِأُبَايِعَكُنَّ عَلَى أَنْ لَا تَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا تَزْنِينَ وَلَا تَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ وَلَا تَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَانٍ تَفْتَرِينَهُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيَكُنَّ وَأَرْجُلِكُنَّ وَلَا تَعْصِينَهُ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَتْ فَأَخْرَجْنَا أَيْدِينَا مِنْ خَارِجِ الْبَابِ وَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ فَبَايَعْنَاهُ قَالَتْ وَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَخْرُجَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَالْحُيَّضَ وَنَهَانَا أَنَّ نَخْرُجَ فِي جَنَازَةٍ أَوْ نَأْتِيَ جُمُعَةً فَقُلْتُ لَهَا مَا لَا تَعْصِينَهُ قَالَتْ النَّوْحُ  

[Machine] Zainab, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , passed away, so he said, "Wash her three times, or five times, or more than that, if you see the need, and wash her with water and sidr, and put some camphor in her burial shroud. When you have finished, inform me." So, when we had finished, we informed him, and he threw his garment to us and said, "Wrap her in it." She said, "We made three knots on her head and sent them from behind her." She said, "And the shroud was small."  

تُوُفِّيَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلُوهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاغْسِلْنَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ قَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ قَالَتْ جَعَلْنَا رَأْسَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُنَّ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا قَالَتْ وَالْحَقْوُ إِزَارٌ صَغِيرٌ  

[Machine] He pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and she (referring to Basrah) sent her son but he could not catch up with him. So she informed us and mentioned something similar to the narration of Ma'mar.  

بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدِمَتِ الْبَصْرَةَ تُبَادِرُ ابْنًا لَهَا فَلَمْ تُدْرِكُهُ» فَحَدَّثَتْنَا وَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ  

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi reported from Malik that Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported from Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam, who reported from Bakr ibn Sahl, who reported from Abdullah ibn Yusuf, who said: I am Malik ibn Anas, who reported from Ayyub ibn Abi Tamimah, who reported from Muhammad ibn Sirin, who reported from Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us when his daughter passed away. He said: Wash her three, five, or more times if you see that it is necessary, with water and lotus leaves, and put camphor or something made of camphor in the Hereafter. When you have finished, inform me. She said: So when we had finished, we informed him, and he gave his garment to us and said: Wrap her in it.  

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَا أنا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَتُ ابْنَتُهُ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَعْطَانَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ يَعْنِي إِزَارَهُ  

[Machine] The daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, so we gathered around her. We entered the room and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in on us and said, "Wash her three, five, or more than that, if you see fit, with water and sidr, and in the Hereafter, place camphor, or something made from camphor on her. When you are done, notify me." So, when we were finished, we informed him. He threw his own garment over her and said, "Put it on her."  

تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَاجْتَمَعْنَا عِنْدَهَا فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] One of the daughters of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and said, "Wash her three or five or more times. If you see a need for it, use water and sidr and make camphor or something of camphor for her in the Hereafter. When you finish, give me a signal." When we finished, we signaled to him, and he threw his garment towards us and said, "Sprinkle it on her."  

تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us when we were washing his daughter Umm Kulthum. He said: ‘Wash her three or five times, or more than that if you think you need to, with water and lote leaves, and put camphor or a little camphor in (the water) for the last washing. When you have finished, call for me.’ When we finished, we called him, and he gave his waist-wrapper to us and said: ‘Shroud her with it.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1458)  

دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نُغَسَّلُ ابْنَتَهُ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] She said: "The daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has passed away." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Wash her with water and sidr three, five, or more times if you see the need, and put some camphor in the last washing. When you have finished, inform me so that I may come and offer funeral prayer for her." So we informed him, and he came and offered the funeral prayer for her, and said: "Say the same to him before you bury her."  

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ تُوُفِّيَتْ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اغْسِلُوهَا بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ وَاجْعَلُوا فِي آخِرِهِنِّ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَآذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى حَقْوَهُ وَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] One of the daughters of the Prophet ﷺ passed away, so he commanded us to wash her with water and sidr, and he said to wash her three or five times or more if we saw fit, and to place camphor or something of camphor at the end of the washes. When we finished, he gave us her shroud and said, "Cover her with it."  

تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُغَسِّلَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] One of the daughters of the Prophet (PBUH) passed away, so the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Wash her with water and sidr, and wash her an odd number of times, either three or five. And if you think it necessary, increase it. And let the last washing be with camphor or something of camphor. Then inform me when you have completed this." He said, "I would like to be the one to wash her."  

تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اغْسِلْنَهَا بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا وَإِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ أَنْ تَزِدْنَ فَزِدْنَ وَلْيَكُنْ ذَلِكَ وِتْرًا وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ ثُمَّ أَلْقَى لَنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] One of the daughters of the Prophet (PBUH) passed away, so he ordered us to wash her three, five, or more times if we saw fit, and to put in the last wash something of camphor and lote leaves.  

«تُوُفِّيَتْ إِحْدَى بَنَاتِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُغَسِّلَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّهُ وَأَنْ تَجْعَلَنَ فِي الْغَسْلَةِ الْآخِرَةِ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ وَسِدْرٍ»  

[Machine] The Prophet's daughter died, so he said, "Wash her three, five, or more times if you see fit, using water and sidr (a type of plant), and put some camphor with her in the afterlife. When you have finished, inform me." When they had finished, they informed him, and he threw his garment over her and said, "Anoint her with it."  

تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ  

[Machine] The daughter of the Prophet ﷺ passed away, so he said, "Wash her with water and sidr (a type of plant) three times or five times or more, if you see fit, and put some camphor at the end of the washes. When you finish washing her, notify me." She said, "We notified him." So he threw his garment to us and said, "Wrap her in it." Ayyub said, "She said to wash her three times or five times or seven times and to put three handfuls of camphor for her."  

تُوُفِّيَتْ بِنْتُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا بِالْمَاءِ وَالسِّدْرِ ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي آخِرِهِنَّ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي قَالَتْ فَآذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ قَالَ أَيُّوبُ وَقَالَتْ بِقَصَّةٍ تَغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ سَبْعًا وَاجْعَلْنَ لَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ  

[Machine] The daughter of the Prophet ﷺ passed away, so he entered upon us while we were washing her and he said, "Wash her three or five times, and when you are done, inform me." So, when we finished, we informed him and he threw his scarf towards us and said, "Cover her with it."  

تُوُفِّيَتِ ابْنَةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُهَا فَقَالَ اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَائْذَنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذَنَّاهُ فَأَلْقَى إِلَيْنَا حَقْوَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ «  

[Machine] And I have participated with the Prophet ﷺ in raids, where we used to walk on foot and tend to the wounded. So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, can one of us go out with the people on the day of Eid and the day of sacrifice?" He said, "Let the virgins, those in their menses, and those who are experiencing postnatal bleeding attend witness the goodness and the supplications of the Muslims." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what if one of them does not have a garment?" He said, "Then let her sister dress her with her own garment."  

وَقَدْ غَزَوْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ غَزَوَاتٍ كُنَّا نَقُومُ عَلَى الْكَلْمَى وَنُدَاوِي الْجَرْحَى فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِحْدَانَا تَخْرُجُ مَعَ النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ قَالَتْ فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تُخْرِجْنَ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ فَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِحْدَانَا لَا يَكُونُ لَهَا ثَوْبٌ؟ قَالَ تُلْبِسُهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ ثَوْبِهَا  

[Machine] She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to remove the barriers and shade shelters." They asked, "What about women who are menstruating?" He said, "Yes, they should witness the good and the prayers of the Muslims." So we said, "O Messenger of Allah, what if a woman does not have a garment?" He said, "She should be given a garment by her sister from her own clothes."  

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ «نُخْرِجَ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ» فَقِيلَ وَالْحُيَّضُ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ يَشْهَدْنُ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ» فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِحْدَانَا لَا يَكُونُ لَهَا ثَوْبٌ قَالَ «لِتُلْبِسْهَا أُخْتُهَا طَائِفَةً مِنْ ثَوْبِهَا»  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to bring out the secluded women on the day of 'Id (festival). He was asked: What about the menstruous women ? He said: They should be present at the place of virtue and the supplications of the Muslims. A woman said: Messenger of Allah, what should we do it one of us does not possess an outer garment ? He replied: Let her friend lend a part of her garment. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1136)  

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ «نُخْرِجَ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ» فَقِيلَ وَالْحُيَّضُ؟ فَقَالَ «يَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ» قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لِإِحْدَانَا ثَوْبٌ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعُ؟ قَالَ «تُلْبِسُهَا صَاحِبَتُهَا طَائِفَةً مِنْ ثَوْبِهَا»  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to make the young girls, the mature women, those secluded in their rooms, and those menstruating go out in procession on the two Eids. The menstruating women, however, would keep away from the prayer area and witness the good and the supplications of the Muslims. One of them said, "What if one of us does not have a jilbab (a loose outer garment)?" He said, "Let her borrow the jilbab of her sister from her garments."  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يُخْرِجُ الْأَبْكَارَ وَالْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْمُصَلَّى وَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَتْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِإِحْدَاهُنَّ جِلْبَابٌ؟ قَالَ فَلْتُعِرْهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ جَلَابِيبِهَا  

[Machine] We have been commanded to go out in the two Eids, and we take out those who are menstruating, those with postnatal bleeding, and women in seclusion. As for those who are menstruating, they witness the congregation of Muslims and their supplications, and they abstain from prayer.  

أَمَرَنَا بِالْخُرُوجِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وُنُخْرِجُ الْحُيَّضَ وَالْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَشْهَدْنَ جَمَاعَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَدَعْوَتَهُمْ وَيَعْتَزِلْنَ صَلَاتِهِمْ  

[Machine] "We were ordered to go out during the two Eids, those who have seclusion and menstruation. As for menstruation, they should witness the prayer of the Muslims."  

كُنَّا «نُؤْمَرُ بِالْخُرُوجِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ ذَوَاتَ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَشْهَدْنَ مُصَلًّى الْمُسْلِمِينَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , commanded us to expel the barriers and women in seclusion during the day of Eid. As for women in menstruation, they are to witness the prayer of the Muslim community.  

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نُخْرِجَ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَشْهَدْنَ مُصَلًّى الْمُسْلِمِينَ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ ordered us to let the women on their menstrual period and postpartum bleeding attend the two Eid prayers with the Muslims, witnessing their supplications and prayers, while the menstruating women abstained from praying.  

أَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ نُخْرِجَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ ذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ يَشْهَدْنَ مَعَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ دَعْوَتَهُمْ وَصَلَاتُهُمْ وَتَعْتَزِلَ الْحُيَّضُ الصَّلَاةَ  

[Machine] She said and I mentioned the pledge of allegiance of the Prophet ﷺ. She said, "No woman fulfilled it except for Umm Sulaym, Umm Kulthum, and the wife of Muadh bin Abi Sabrah."  

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ وَذَكَرْتُ بَيْعَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ «فَمَا وَفَّتْ مِنَّا امْرَأَةٌ غَيْرُ أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ وَامْرَأَةُ مُعَاذِ بْنِ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke to the women about something, which he took from them, that they should not let themselves be known except for so-and-so and so-and-so, and the mother of so-and-so.  

«أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فِيمَا أَخَذَ أَنْ لَا يَنُحْنَ فَمَا وَفَّى مِنْهُنَّ إِلَّا فُلَانَةُ وَفُلَانَةُ وَأُمُّ فُلَانٍ»

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "It is not permissible for a believing woman in Allah and the Last Day to observe voluntary fasting for more than three days without the permission of her husband."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا يَحِلُّ لِامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ أَنْ تُحِدَّ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ»  

[Machine] "Not to wear dyed clothes during mourning, except for clothing of a straw color. And we are commanded not to declare someone lost or deceased for more than three days except for a spouse. And we are ordered not to touch anything perfumed except with the least amount needed for ritual purity, such as the kust (herb) and nails."  

أَنْ لَا نَلْبَسَ فِي الْإِحْدَادِ الثِّيَابَ الْمُصَبَّغَةَ إِلَّا الْعَصْبَ وَأُمْرِنَا أَنْ لَا نُحِدَّ عَلَى هَالِكٍ أَوْ قَالَتْ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ إِلَّا الزَّوْجَ وَأُمِرْنَا أَنْ لَا نَمَسَّ طِيبًا إِلَّا أَدْنَاهُ للطُّهْرِ الْكُسْتَ وَالْأَظْفَارَ»  

[Machine] To spend more than three nights mourning a deceased person, except for a spouse.  

أَنْ نُحِدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ لَيَالٍ إِلَّا عَلَى زَوْجٍ»  

[Machine] "We did not see the yellow and black thing."  

«لَمْ نَكُنْ نَرَى الصُّفْرَةَ وَالْكُدْرَةَ شَيْئًا»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah does not accept the prayer of someone whose nose does not touch the ground."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَقْبَلُ صَلَاةَ مَنْ لَا يُصِيبُ أَنْفَهُ الْأَرْضَ»  

[Machine] "I participated in seven expeditions with the Prophet ﷺ , carrying their provisions, tending to the injured, and treating the sick."  

«غَزَوْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَبْعَ غَزَوَاتٍ أَخْلُفُهُمْ فِي رِحَالِهِمْ وَأَصْنَعُ لَهُمُ الطَّعَامَ وَأَجْبُرُ عَلَى الْجَرِيحِ وَأُدَاوِي الْمَرِيضَ»  

“I fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in seven campaigns, looking after their goods, making food for them, tending the wounded and looking after the sick.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2856)  

«غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَبْعَ غَزَوَاتٍ أَخْلُفُهُمْ فِي رِحَالِهِمْ وَأَصْنَعُ لَهُمُ الطَّعَامَ وَأُدَاوِي الْجَرْحَى وَأَقُومُ عَلَى الْمَرِيضِ»  

[Machine] Umm 'Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah from Basra came to us and said, "By my father and mother, meaning the Prophet ﷺ , he ordered us to go out on both Eids, the virgins and the menstruating women, to witness the goodness and the supplications of the Muslims."  

قَدِمَتْ عَلَيْنَا أُمُّ عَطِيَّةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةُ الْبَصْرَةَ فَقَالَتْ بِأَبِي هُوَ وَأُمِّي تَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُخْرِجَ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْمُصَلَّى وَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to take out our mothers and fathers on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha, as well as the young girls, the women experiencing their monthly periods, and those in postpartum confinement. She (one of the women present) said, "As for the women experiencing their monthly periods, they should leave the prayer area but witness the goodness and supplications of the Muslims." She (another woman present) said, "So we asked, what if one of them does not have a cloak (to wear)?" He replied, "Then her sister can lend her a cloak from her own." Hisham (the narrator) said, "I heard Muhammad mentioning this from Umm Atiyyah, but I memorized it from the hadith of Hafsah."  

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي أَنْ نُخْرِجَهُنَّ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ وَيَوْمَ النَّحْرِ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ قَالَتْ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْمُصَلَّى وَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَتْ فَقُلْنَا أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِحْدَاهُنَّ لَا يَكُونُ لَهَا الْجِلْبَابُ؟ قَالَ «تُلْبِسُهَا أُخْتُهَا مِنْ جِلْبَابِهَا» قَالَ هِشَامٌ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدًا يَذْكُرُهُ عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ وَلَكِنِّي لِحَدِيثِ حَفْصَةَ أَحْفَظُ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to go out on the day of Eid to bring out the young unmarried women and those in seclusion, and to also bring out those who are menstruating. As for those who are menstruating, they should abstain from prayer, but they should witness the goodness and supplications of the Muslims. A woman asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about if one of us does not have a Jilbab (outer garment)?" He replied, "She should borrow her sister's Jilbab."  

أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نُخْرِجَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ وَالْحُيَّضَ فَأَمَّا الْحُيَّضُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الصَّلَاةَ وَيَشْهَدْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِذَا كَانَتْ إِحْدَانَا لَيْسَ لَهَا جِلْبَابٌ؟ قَالَ «تُلْبِسُهَا أُخْتُهَا جِلْبَابَهَا»  

We were commanded to go out as well as the hidden away ladies and those unmarried. She said menstruating women were to come out amongst you, but remain behind people and pronounce takbir (Allah-o-Akbar) along with them. (Using translation from Muslim 890b)  

«كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ بِالْخُرُوجِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَالْمُحَيَّاةُ وَالْبِكْرُ قَالَتْ وَالْحُيَّضُ يَخْرُجْنَ فَيَكُنَّ خَلْفَ النَّاسِ يُكَبِّرْنَ مَعَ النَّاسِ»  

[Machine] I heard this from the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , regarding women who do not have a jilbab (outer garment): Do they witness the celebration? She said: Yes, by my father. Whenever she spoke about the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , she would say: By my father, I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , saying, "Allow the unmarried women and those who menstruate to attend the Eid prayer and the supplication of the Muslims, but let them stay away from the prayer area."  

سَمِعْتِ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَعْنِي فِي الْمَرْأَةِ لَا يَكُونُ لَهَا جِلْبَابٌ هَلْ تَشَهْدُ الْعِيدَ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ بِأَبِي وَكَانَتْ إِذَا حَدَّثَتْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ بِأَبِي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «أَخْرِجُوا الْعَوَاتِقَ وَذَوَاتِ الْخُدُورِ فَلْيَشْهَدْنَ الْعِيدَ وَدَعْوَةَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْحُيَّضُ مُصَلًّى الْمُسْلِمِينَ»  

[Machine] "On the authority of Umm Atiyyah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to go out on the day of the two Eids, until the young unmarried girls and menstruating women go out. Hafsah said, 'A woman said to Umm Atiyyah, 'What about menstruating women?'' She replied, 'They should go out and stay aside from the prayer area, but they should remember Allah.'"  

عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَخْرُجَ يَوْمَ الْعِيدَيْنِ حَتَّى تَخْرُجَ الْجَوَارِي وَالْعَوَاتِقُ قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لِأُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ وَالْحُيَّضُ؟ قَالَتْ وَالْحُيَّضُ يَخْرُجْنُ فَيَعْتَزِلْنَ الْمُصَلَّى وَيَذْكُرْنَ اللهَ  

[Machine] "He took from us in the transaction, at the time of the transaction, that none of us should cry, so those who fulfilled it were five: Umm Sulaim, Umm Al Ala, the daughter of Abu Sabrah, Umm Muadh, the daughter of Abu Sabrah, and another woman."  

«أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا فِي الْبَيْعَةِ عِنْدَ الْبَيْعَةِ أَنْ لَا نَنُوحَ فَمَا وَفَّى مِنْهُنَّ غَيْرُ خَمْسٍ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ وَبِنْتُ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ وَأُمُّ مُعَاذٍ بِنْتُ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ وَامْرَأَةٌ أُخْرَى»  

[Machine] We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he recited to us that we should not associate anything with Allah and he forbade us from imitating the polytheists. Then, a woman among us lost her hand and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, so and so has helped me and I want to reward her." He did not say anything to her, so she left and then came back and said, "None of us fulfilled her promise except Umm Sulaim, Umm Al-Ala, the daughter of Abu Sabrah, and the wife of Mu'adh."  

بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ لَا تُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا وَنَهَانَا عَنِ النَّوْحِ فَقَبَضَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنَّا يَدَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ فُلَانَةَ أَسْعَدَتْنِي وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَجْزِيَهَا فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لَهَا شَيْئًا فَذَهَبَتْ ثُمَّ رَجَعَتْ قَالَتْ فَمَا وَفَّتْ مِنَّا امْرَأَةٌ إِلَّا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأُمَّ الْعَلَاءِ وَبِنْتَ أَبِي سَبْرَةَ وَامْرَأَةَ مُعَاذٍ  

[Machine] There was a statement from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the pledge of allegiance that we should not wail.  

كَانَ فِيمَا «أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ الْبَيْعَةِ أَنْ لَا نَنُوحَ»  

[Machine] We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and among the things he instructed us was not to mourn loudly. A woman said, "O Messenger of Allah, my family has made me happy, so I will not pledge allegiance to you until I make them happy." The Prophet said, "Make them happy then." So, she made them happy and then pledged allegiance to him. She said, "No woman among us, except me and Umm Salamah, remained behind."  

بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَانَ فِيمَا أَمَرَنَا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ أَنْ لَا نَنُوحَ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ آلَ فُلَانٍ أَسْعَدَتْنِي فَلَنْ أُبَايِعَكَ حَتَّى أَسْعِدَهُنَّ قَالَتْ فَأَسْعَدْتُهُنَّ ثُمَّ بَايَعَتْهُ قَالَتْ فَلَمْ تَفِ مِنَّا امْرَأَةٌ غَيْرِي وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ  

[Machine] About Umm Atiyyah's statement regarding "And do not disobey you in what is right", she said: From it, (i.e. from this statement) it was reported from the Prophet ﷺ when we gave him the pledge of allegiance that we will not disobey him in what is right, except for the family of so and so.  

عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ {وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ} قَالَتْ مِنْهُ النَّوْحُ قُلْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ حِينَ بَايَعْنَاهُ أَنْ لَا نَعْصِينَهُ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ
