Once the Prophet ﷺ brought out Al-Hasan and took him up the pulpit along with him and said, "This son of mine is a Saiyid (i.e. chief) and I hope that Allah will help him bring about reconciliation between two Muslim groups."

عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ ؓ أَخْرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ الْحَسَنَ فَصَعِدَ بِهِ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَقَالَ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

I heard the Prophet ﷺ talking at the pulpit while Al-Hasan was sitting beside him, and he (i.e. the Prophet ) was once looking at the people and at another time Al-Hasan, and saying, "This son of mine is a Saiyid (i.e. chief) and perhaps Allah will bring about an agreement between two sects of the Muslims through him."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَالْحَسَنُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى النَّاسِ مَرَّةً وَإِلَيْهِ مَرَّةً وَيَقُولُ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

When Al-Hasan bin ʿAli moved with army units against Muawiya, ʿAmr bin AL-As said to Muawiya, "I see an army that will not retreat unless and until the opposing army retreats." Muawiya said, "(If the Muslims are killed) who will look after their children?" ʿAmr bin Al-As said: I (will look after them). On that, ʿAbdullah bin 'Amir and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Samura said, "Let us meet Muawaiya and suggest peace." Al-Hasan Al-Basri added: No doubt, I heard that Abu Bakra said, "Once while the Prophet was addressing (the people), Al-Hasan (bin ʿAli) came and the Prophet ﷺ said, 'This son of mine is a chief, and Allah may make peace between two groups of Muslims through him."

بَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ جَاءَ الْحَسَنُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to al-Hasan ibn Ali. This son of mine is a Sayyid (chief), and I hope Allah may reconcile two parties of my community by means of him. Hammad's version has: And perhaps Allah may reconcile two large parties of Muslims by means of him.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَإِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ يُصْلِحَ اللَّهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي وَقَالَ فِي حَدِيثِ حَمَّادٍ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ

"I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Minbar, and Al-Hasan was with him. He would turn to the people sometimes and turn to him (Al-Hasan) sometimes, and he said: 'This son of mine is a leader (Sayyid) and Allah may make peace between two large groups of Muslims through him.'"

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا بَكْرَةَ يَقُولُ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَالْحَسَنُ مَعَهُ وَهُوَ يُقْبِلُ عَلَى النَّاسِ مَرَّةً وَعَلَيْهِ مَرَّةً وَيَقُولُ إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ

"I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Minbar, and Al-Hasan was with him. [AI] One day, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was giving a sermon, Al-Hasan ibn Ali came and ascended the pulpit. The Prophet ﷺ embraced him and touched his head, and said, "This is my son. Perhaps Allah will bring about reconciliation between two great factions of Muslims through him."

بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ جَاءَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ فَصَعِدَ إِلَيْهِ الْمِنْبَرَ فَضَمَّهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَقَالَ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to al-Hasan ibn Ali. This son of mine is a Sayyid (chief), and I hope Allah may reconcile two parties of my community by means of him. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ «إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ»

[AI] While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon, Hassan ibn Ali approached him and the Prophet ﷺ embraced him and said, "Indeed, my son here is a master and perhaps Allah (God) will bring about reconciliation through him between two factions of the Muslims."

بَيْنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ إِذْ صَعِدَ إِلَيْهِ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ فَضَمَّهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ ﷻ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah, blessings be upon him, on the pulpit and Al-Hasan ibn Ali was by his side, looking at the Messenger of Allah, blessings be upon him, with a glance. The Messenger of Allah, blessings be upon him, looked at him with a glance and said, "Verily, my son here is a master, and perhaps Allah will reconcile through him between two groups of Muslims."

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ وَهُوَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَظْرَةً وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ نَظْرَةً وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»

[AI] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with Al-Hasan ibn Ali while he was saying, 'Verily, this son of mine is a leader, and Allah will bring peace and reconciliation through him between two great factions of the Muslims.'"

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَإِنَّ اللهَ سَيُصْلِحُ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Al-Hasan ibn Ali, "Indeed, my son is a master and I hope that Allah will use him to reconcile between two factions of my ummah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ؓ «إِنَّ» ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَإِنِّي أَرْجُو أَنْ يُصْلِحَ اللهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said to Hassan ibn Ali, "Verily, my son here is a leader, and I hope that Allah will reconcile through him between two groups of my Ummah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ؓماُ «إِنَّ» ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ يُصْلِحَ اللهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنْ أُمَّتِي

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, my son, meaning Al-Hasan, is a master, and Allah will reconcile through him between two factions of Muslims."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ ابْنِي يَعْنِي الْحَسَنَ سَيِّدٌ ولَيُصْلِحَنَّ اللهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ embracing Al-Hasan and saying, "Indeed, my son is a leader, and perhaps Allah will reconcile through him between two groups of Muslims."

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُحْتَضِنٌ الْحَسَنَ وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ أَنْ يُصْلِحَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ»

"إِنَّ ابْنِى هَذَا سيِّدٌ، ولَعَلَّ اللَّهَ أنْ يُصْلِحَ به بَيْنَ فئَتَيْنِ عَظيمَتَيْن مِنَ المُسْلمِينَ ".

"إِنَّ ابْنى هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَيُصْلِحَن اللَّهُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ المُسْلِميِنَ عَظِيمتَيْن ".

"إِنَّ ابْنِى هَذَا سيِّدٌ، وِإنَّه ريحانتى في الدُّنْيَا، وَإِنى أَرْجُو أَنَّ اللَّه يُصْلِحُ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ المُسْلِمينَ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ ".

"إِنَّ ابنى هَذَا سيِّدٌ، يُصْلِحُ اللَّهَ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ ".

"إِنَّ ابْنى هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وإنَّ اللَّهَ سَيُصْلِح عَلَى يَدَيْه بَيْنَ فئَتَيْنِ من المُسْلِمِينَ عَظيَمتَيْنِ ".

"عَنِ الحَسَنِ قَالَ: رَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلَىٍّ مَعَهُ عَلَى الْمِنْبرِ، فَقَالَ: إن ابْنِى هَذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللَّهَ -تَعَالَى- أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ".
