"Abul Qasim ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
"Abul Qasim ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
While the Prophet ﷺ was in the market, somebody, called, "O Abul-Qasim." The Prophet ﷺ turned to him. The man said, "I have called to this (i.e. another man)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves by my name but not by my Kunya (name)." (In Arabic world it is the custom to call the man as the father of his eldest son, e.g. Abul-Qasim.) كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ هَذَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
A man at Al-Baqi' called, "O Abul-Qasim!" The Prophet ﷺ turned to him and the man said (to the Prophet ), "I did not intend to call you." The prophet said, "Name yourselves by my name but not by my Kunya (name).
عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ دَعَا رَجُلٌ بِالْبَقِيعِ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ قَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
While the Prophet ﷺ was in the market, a man called (somebody), "O Abu-l-Qasim!' The Prophet ﷺ turned to him and said "Name yourselves after me but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves after me, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Abu-l-Qasim said, "Name yourselves after me, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
A man among us begot a boy whom he named Al-Qasim. The people said, "We will not call him (i.e., the father) by that Kuniya (Abu-l-Qasim) till we ask the Prophet ﷺ about it. The Prophet ﷺ said. "Name yourselves by my name, but do not call (yourselves) by my Kuniya."
وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقَالُوا لاَ نَكْنِيهِ حَتَّى نَسْأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Abu-l-Qasim (The Prophet) said, "Name yourselves by my name, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya."
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Name yourselves after me (by my name) but do not call (yourselves) by my Kuniya (1), for I am Al-Qasim (distributor), and I distribute among you Allah's blessings." This narration has also come on the authority of Anas that the ! Prophet said so."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَرَوَاهُ أَنَسٌ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
Messenger of Allah, I did not mean you, but I called such and such (person), whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may call yourself by my name, but not by my kunya.
نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَجُلاً بِالْبَقِيعِ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ فُلاَنًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
Give the name after my name, but do not give (the kunya of Abu'l-Qasim after my) kunya, for I am Abu'l-Qasim (in the sense) that I distribute amongst you (the spoils of war) and disseminate the knowledge (of revelation). This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr but with a slight variation of wording.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنِّي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا
This hadith has been reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but there is a slight variation (of wording) that, instead of the word Bu'ithat (I have been sent), the word ju'ilat (I have been made) has been used.
وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ
Give name (to your children) after my name but do not give the kunya (of Abu'l- Qasim) after my kunya. 'Amr reported from Abu Huraira that he did not say that he had heard it directly from Allah's Apostle ﷺ.
أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي قَالَ عَمْرٌو عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَلَمَ يَقُلْ سَمِعْتُ
Call yourselves by my name, but do not use my KUNYAH (surname). Abu Dawud said : Abu Salih has transmitted it in a similar way from Abu Hurairah, and similar are the traditions of Abu Sufyan from Jabir, of Salim b. Abl al-Ja’d from Jabir, of Sulaiman al-Yashkuri from Jabir, and of Ibn al-Munkadir from Jabir and similar others and Anas b. Malik.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
"Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Baqi', and a man called out to another man: 'O Abul-Qasim!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to him, and he said: 'I didn't mean you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah.'"
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْبَقِيعِ فَنَادَى رَجُلٌ رَجُلاً يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْنِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تََكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي»
[AI] "From the Prophet ﷺ : Be called by my name, and do not use my title (Kunya)."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , address me by my name and do not use my nickname.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] Regarding the Prophet ﷺ, they should be named after me and not called by my nickname.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
"Call yourselves by my name but do not call yourselves by my Kunyah." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3736)
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Call yourselves by my name, but do not claim kinship (with me) by my name. I am Abu Al-Qasim."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever is called by my name should not adopt my nickname, and whoever adopts my nickname should not be called by my name."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ تَسَمَّى بِاسْمِي فَلَا يَتَكَنَّى بِكُنْيَتِي وَمَنِ اكْتَنَى بِكُنْيَتِي فَلَا يَتَسَمَّى بِاسْمِي
[AI] "From the Prophet ﷺ that he used to say, 'Call yourselves by my name, and do not elevate yourselves by my title.'"
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
from the Prophet ﷺ who said, "˹You may˺ name yourselves with my name (use my name) but do not name yourselves with my Kunya name (i.e. Abul Qasim). And whoever sees me in a dream then surely he has seen me for Satan cannot impersonate me. And whoever tells a lie against me (intentionally), then (surely) let him occupy his seat in Hell-fire." عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] "Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said: Whoever is called by my name should not use my nickname, and whoever uses my nickname should not be called by my name."
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ تَسَمَّى بِاسْمِي فَلَا يَتَكَنَّى بِكُنْيَتِي وَمَنْ تَكَنَّى بِكُنْيَتِي فَلَا يَتَسَمَّى بِاسْمِي

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Baqi', and a man called out to another man: 'O Abul-Qasim!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to him, and he said: 'I didn't mean you.' أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ بِالْبَقِيعِ فَنَادَى رَجُلٌ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَعْنِكَ قَالَ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي
[AI] "A man called another man in the market and said, 'O Abu Al-Qasim.' The Prophet (PBUH) turned around and the man said, 'I was only calling another man.' The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, 'Use my name and do not use my title.'"
إِنَّ رَجُلًا دَعَا رَجُلًا فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ رَجُلًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي

[AI] "To name him Muhammad and they came with him the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he said, "The Ansar have done well to name themselves after me and not use my nickname, for I was sent as a distributor [of inheritance] among you."
أَنْ يُسَمُّوهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَأَتَوْا بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَحْسَنَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ»

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي»
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not combine my name and my nickname."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تَجْمَعُوا بَيْنَ اسْمِي وَكُنْيَتِي»
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you call me, do not use my name. And when you mention my name, do not be familiar with me."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا كَنَّيْتُمْ فَلَا تَسَمَّوْا بِي وَإِذَا سَمَّيْتُمْ بِي فَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِي» *
[AI] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Do not combine my name and nickname. I am Abu Al-Qasim. Allah gives and I swear."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَجْمَعُوا بَيْنَ اسْمِي وَكُنْيَتِي أَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ اللَّهُ يُعْطِي وَأَنَا أَقْسِمُ»
قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ من تسمى باسمي فلا يكتني بكنيتي فإني أَبُو القاسم
[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Call yourselves by my name and do not use my title."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي»
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Name yourselves after me, but do not call yourselves by my Kuniya." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3538)
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي»
