[Machine] "To name him Muhammad and they came with him the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and he said, "The Ansar have done well to name themselves after me and not use my nickname, for I was sent as a distributor [of inheritance] among you."  

الحاكم:٧٧٣٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ثَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَمَنْصُورٍ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَحُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ وُلِدَ لِلْأَنْصَارِ وَلَدٌ فَأَرَادُوا

أَنْ يُسَمُّوهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَأَتَوْا بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «أَحْسَنَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ تَسَمَّوْا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَقَدِ اتَّفَقَا فِيهِ عَلَى حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ بِغَيْرِهَذِهِ السِّيَاقَةِ وَقَدْ جَمَعَ بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ وَأَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بَيْنَ الْأَرْبَعَةِ كَمَا جَمَعَ بَيْنَهُمُ النَّضْرُ بْنُ الشُّمَيْلِ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Name yourselves after me (by my name) but do not call (yourselves) by my Kuniya (1), for I am Al-Qasim (distributor), and I distribute among you Allah's blessings." This narration has also come on the authority of Anas that the ! Prophet said so."  

البخاري:٦١٩٦ – حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا قَاسِمٌ أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ وَرَوَاهُ أَنَسٌ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ  

muslim:2133f – Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná And Muḥammad b. Bashhār > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Qatādah > Sālim > Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh > a man from al-Anṣār Wulid Lah Ghulām Faʾarād

The Ansar have done well to give the name (to your children) after my name, but do not give them the kunya after my kunya.  

مسلم:٢١٣٣f – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

أَنَّ رَجُلاً مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ أَحْسَنَتِ الأَنْصَارُ سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي

[Machine] A boy was born to a man from the Ansar. He wanted to name him Muhammad, so he took him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they asked him. He said, "Name him with my name, but do not use my nickname. Indeed, I have been sent as a distributor. I will distribute amongst you."

ahmad:14363 – Abū Muʿāwiyah > al-Aʿmash > Sālim > Jābir

Give the name after my name, but do not give (the kunya of Abu'l-Qasim after my) kunya, for I am Abu'l-Qasim (in the sense) that I distribute amongst you (the spoils of war) and disseminate the knowledge (of revelation). This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr but with a slight variation of wording. (Using translation from Muslim 2133d)
