Once a person asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ ﷺ about the night prayer. Allah's Apostle ﷺ replied, "The night prayer is offered as two Rakʿat followed by two Rakʿat and so on and if anyone is afraid of the approaching dawn (Fajr prayer) he should pray one Rakʿah and this will be a Witr for all the Rakʿat which he has prayed before."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى

Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears morning is near, he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about prayer at night and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Prayer at night is two by two, then if one of you fears that dawn will break, pray one rak'ah to make the total number that he prayed odd."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi and Abdullah ibn Umar that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about night prayers. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Night prayers are two by two, and when you are afraid that dawn is approaching, pray one raka to make what you have prayed odd."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلاَةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى

[Machine] A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how do you order us to pray at night?" He replied, "You should pray two units of prayer at a time, and when you fear the approach of dawn, pray one unit of prayer which will be your Witr (odd-numbered) prayer for what you have already prayed in the night."

رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ؟ قَالَ يُصَلِّي أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى وَاحِدَةً فَأَوْتَرَتْ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ

[Machine] A man called the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, how do you command us to pray during the night?" He replied, "Each of you should pray two units of prayer, then when dawn approaches, pray one unit of prayer. That will complete what he has prayed."

نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا نُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ؟ قَالَ يُصَلِّي أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ يُصَلِّي وَاحِدَةً فَأَوْتَرَتْ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was on the pulpit about the night prayer. He replied, "It is to be performed in pairs." And if one of you fears that he will not wake up until morning, he should pray Witr (the odd-numbered prayer that is performed after Isha prayer)."

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ قَالَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ صَلَّى وَاحِدَةً فَأَوْتَرَتْ لَهُ مَا صَلَّى

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the prayer at night. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears the morning is near he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him. سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ «مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى»

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the night prayer. He replied, "It is done in pairs. And when one of you fears the dawn, he should perform one more unit of prayer to complete what he has offered." Abu Muhammad was asked, "Do you adhere to it?" He replied, "Yes."

سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ فَقَالَ «مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً تُوتِرُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى» قِيلَ لِأَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ تَأْخُذُ بِهِ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "How should we pray at night?" He said, "Each of you should pray two rak'ahs and if morning approaches, then offer a single rak'ah (witr prayer)."

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ بِاللَّيْلِ؟ قَالَ «يُصَلِّي أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ أَوْتَرَ بِرَكْعَةٍ»

[Machine] A man called the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I was between them, asked: "How is the night prayer?" He said, "Two by two. When you fear the approaching dawn, then pray one rakah and make two prostrations before dawn."

نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُمَا كَيْفَ صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَ «مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَصَلِّ وَاحِدَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ»

"عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا نَبِىَّ الله كيْفَ تَأمُرُنَا أَنْ نُصَلِّى منَ اللَّيْلِ؟ قَالَ: يُصَلِّى أحَدُكمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خَشِىَ الصُّبْحَ صلَّى وَاحِدَةً أَوْتَرَ بِهَا مَا صلى مِنْ اللَّيْلِ".
