[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was called by a man from the desert, while I was between him and the Bedouin. The man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how is the night prayer?" The Prophet replied, "It is performed in sets of two rak'ahs. And if you fear the approaching dawn, then perform one rak'ah as well as two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer."  

أحمد:٥٤٧٠ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

نَادَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْبَدَوِيِّ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ صَلَاةُاللَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَوَاحِدَةً وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْغَدَاةِ

[Machine] Ibn Umar asked the Prophet (PBUH) about the night prayer while I was also present between them. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The night prayer is performed two units at a time. And when you fear the approaching dawn, then hasten to offer a single unit of prayer before the Fajr prayer and two units of prayer before the morning prayer."

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ الْمُتَهَجِّدَ إِنَّمَا أُمِرَ أَنْ يُوتِرَ بِرَكْعَةٍ آخِرَ صَلَاتِهِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ لَا بَعْدَهُ

[Machine] A man called the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I was between them, asked: "How is the night prayer?" He said, "Two by two. When you fear the approaching dawn, then pray one rakah and make two prostrations before dawn."
