A person happened to pass by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was making water and saluted him, but he did not respond to his salutation.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً مَرَّ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ

A man passed by the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ) while he was urinating, and saluted him. The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) did not return the salutation to him. Abu Dawud said : It is narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) performed tayammum, then he returned the salutation to the man.

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ

A man wearing two red garments passed the Prophet ﷺ and gave him a greeting, but he did not respond to his greeting.

مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَحْمَرَانِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَيْهِ

"A man greeted the Prophet (with Salam), and he was urinating, so he did not respond to him."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ

"A man passed by while wearing two red garments. He gave Salam to the Prophet ﷺ but he did not return the Salam."

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَانِ أَحْمَرَانِ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ

"A man passed by the Prophet ﷺ when he was urinating and greeted him with Salam, but he did not return his greeting."

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ

It was narrated from Al-Muhajir bin Qunfudh that he greeted the Prophet ﷺ with Salam while he was urinating, and he did not return the greeting until he had performed Wudu'. When he had performed Wudu' he returned the greeting.

أَنَّهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ

He greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the Salam when he was praying, and he returned the greeting.

أَنَّهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ

"A man passed by the Prophet while he was urinating, and greeted him with the Salam, but he did not return the greeting. While he finished, he struck the ground with his palms and did dry ablution (Tayammum), then he returned the greeting."

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ ضَرَبَ بِكَفَّيْهِ الأَرْضَ فَتَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ

"A man passed by the Prophet while he was urinating and greeted him with the Salam, and he did not return the greeting."

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ

It was narrated from Al-Muhajir bin Qunfudh that he greeted the Prophet ﷺ with Salam while he was urinating, and he did not return the greeting until he had performed Wudu'. When he had performed Wudu' he returned the greeting. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 38)

أَنَّهُ «سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ رَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ»

[AI] I passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was praying, so I greeted him and he responded to me with a gesture.

«مَرَرْتُ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيَّ إِشَارَةً»

[AI] He greeted the Prophet ﷺ while he was urinating, but the Prophet did not respond to him until he had performed ablution.

أَنَّهُ «سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ»

أَنَّهُ «سَلِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ»

He greeted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the Salam when he was praying, and he returned the greeting. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1188)

أَنَّهُ «سَلَّمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ»

[AI] "That a man greeted the Prophet ﷺ while he was urinating, and the Prophet did not respond to him. This incident is not mentioned in Sahih Muslim from the narrations of Al-Thawri."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ مُخَرَّجٌ فِي كِتَابِ مُسْلِمٍ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الثَّوْرِيِّ

"عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مَرَّ عَلَى النَّبِىِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ".

" عَنِ الْمُهَاجِر بن قُنْفُد أَنَّه سَلَّم عَلَى النَّبِىِّ ﷺ وَهَو يَبُول، فَلَم يَرُدَّ عَلَيه حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ، فَلَمَّا تَوَضَّأَ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ".
