"A man passed by the Prophet while he was urinating, and greeted him with the Salam, but he did not return the greeting. While he finished, he struck the ground with his palms and did dry ablution (Tayammum), then he returned the greeting."  

ابن ماجة:٣٥١ – حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ عُلَىٍّ حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ ضَرَبَ بِكَفَّيْهِ الأَرْضَ فَتَيَمَّمَ ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمَ

abudawud:16 – ʿUthmān And ʾAbū Bakr Āb.ā Abū Shaybah > ʿUmar b. Saʿd > Sufyān > al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿUthmān > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

A man passed by the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ) while he was urinating, and saluted him. The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) did not return the salutation to him. Abu Dawud said : It is narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) performed tayammum, then he returned the salutation to the man.  

أبو داود:١٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَا أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَبُولُ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ
