I want to Zainab bint Jahsh when her brother died. She asked for perfume and used some of it and said, "By Allah, I am not in need of perfume, but I have heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying on the pulpit, 'It is not lawful for a lady who believes in Allah and the last day to mourn for more than three days except for her husband for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days.'" [AI] Narrated by some of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ and Umm Salamah, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a deceased person for more than three days, except for her husband. For in that case, she should mourn for him for four months and ten days." [296] 5668 Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Ibrahim informed me, he said: Sahmy reported to me, and his name is Abdullah ibn Bakr ibn Habib, he said: Sa'id reported to us, from Ayub, from Nafi', from Safiyyah bint Abi 'Ubaid, from some of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ , and she is Umm Salamah, from the Prophet ﷺ with a similar narration.
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say this on this Minbar: 'It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and His Messenger to mourn for anyone who dies for more than three days, except for a husband, (for whom the mourning period is) four months and ten days.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3527)
Zainab bint Abu Salama told me these three narrations: Zainab said: I went to Um Habiba, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ when her father, Abu- Sufyan bin Herb had died. Um ,Habiba asked for a perfume which contained yellow scent (Khaluq) or some other scent, and she first perfumed one of the girls with it and then rubbed her cheeks with it and said, "By Allah, I am not in need of perfume, but I have heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'It is not lawful for a lady who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a dead person for more than three days unless he is her husband for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days.'" (Using translation from Bukhārī 5334)
When the news of the death of Abu Sufyan reached from Sham, Um Habiba on the third day, asked for a yellow perfume and scented her cheeks and forearms and said, "No doubt, I would not have been in need of this, had I not heard the Prophet ﷺ saying: "It is not legal for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for more than three days for any dead person except her husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1280)
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "It is not permissible for a Muslim woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for a dead person for more than three days, except for a woman mourning her husband for four months and ten days." Shu'bah narrated to me, and Humeid ibn Nafi' narrated from Zaynab bint Abi Salamah, from her mother, and from a wife of the Prophet ﷺ similar to this. They reported this in the Sahih from the hadith of Shu'bah.
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day, or believes in Allah and His Messenger, to mourn for a dead person for more than three days, except for her husband.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is not lawful for a Muslim woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for more than three days, except for her husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5339)
