We were sitting in the company of Hudhaifa who asked for water and a Magian brought him water. But when he placed the cup in his hand, he threw it at him and said, "Had I not forbidden him to do so more than once or twice?" He wanted to say, "I would not have done so," adding, "but I heard the Prophet saying, "Do not wear silk or Dibaja, and do not drink in silver or golden vessels, and do not eat in plates of such metals, for such things are for the unbelievers in this worldly life and for us in the Hereafter."

وَقَالَ لَوْلاَ أَنِّي نَهَيْتُهُ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلاَ مَرَّتَيْنِ كَأَنَّهُ يَقُولُ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ هَذَا وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَلاَ الدِّيبَاجَ وَلاَ تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلاَ تَأْكُلُوا فِي صِحَافِهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الآخِرَةِ

While Hudhaita was at Mada'in, he asked for water. The chief of the village brought him a silver vessel. Hudhaifa threw it away and said, "I have thrown it away because I told him not to use it, but he has not stopped using it. The Prophet ﷺ forbade us to wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, and to drink in gold or silver utensils, and said, 'These things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you (Muslims) in the Hereafter.' "

كَانَ حُذَيْفَةُ بِالْمَدَايِنِ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِقَدَحِ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَرْمِهِ إِلاَّ أَنِّي نَهَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَنْتَهِ وَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَانَا عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَالشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هُنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهْىَ لَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not drink in gold or silver utensils, and do not wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, for these things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter."

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ وَذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

While Hudhaifa was at Al-Madain, he asked for water whereupon the chief of the village brought him water in a silver cup. Hudhaifa threw it at him and said, "I have thrown it only because I have forbidden him to use it, but he does not stop using it. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Gold, silver, silk and Dibaj (a kind of silk) are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you (Muslims) in the hereafter.'

كَانَ حُذَيْفَةُ بِالْمَدَايِنِ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِمَاءٍ فِي إِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَرْمِهِ إِلاَّ أَنِّي نَهَيْتُهُ فَلَمْ يَنْتَهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الذَّهَبُ وَالْفِضَّةُ وَالْحَرِيرُ وَالدِّيبَاجُ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

The Prophet ﷺ forbade us to drink out of gold and silver vessels, or eat in it, Ann also forbade the wearing of silk and Dibaj or sitting on it.

نَهَانَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِيهَا وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَأَنْ نَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهِ

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Do not wear silk or brocade and do not drink ifi vessels of gold and silver, and do not eat in the dishes made of them (i. e. gold and silver), for these are for them (the non-believers) in this world.

اسْتَسْقَى حُذَيْفَةُ فَسَقَاهُ مَجُوسِيٌّ فِي إِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَلاَ الدِّيبَاجَ وَلاَ تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلاَ تَأْكُلُوا فِي صِحَافِهَا فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا

"I heard Ibn Abi Laila narrating that Hudhaifah asked for water, so someone brought him a vessel made from silver. He threw it, and said: 'I have indeed forbade him, but he refused to stop! Indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited drinking from silver and gold vessels, and from wearing silk and Dibaj, and he ﷺ said: "If is for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter." He said: There are narrations on this topic from Umm Salamah, Al-Bara', and 'Aishah.

أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ اسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ إِنْسَانٌ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ قَدْ نَهَيْتُهُ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَنْتَهِيَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الْفِضَّةِ وَالذَّهَبِ وَلُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَقَالَ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَالْبَرَاءِ وَعَائِشَةَ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver. He said: “They are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.’”

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ لَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade wearing silk and gold. He said: ‘They are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.’”

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالذَّهَبِ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الآخِرَةِ

[AI] "We went out with Hudhaifah to Al-Madain, seeking rain. A Bedouin came to him with a silver vessel, and Hudhaifah threw it away. We told him to quiet down, for if we asked him, he would not speak to us. However, later he asked us, 'Do you know why I threw it?' We said, 'No.' He said, 'I was forbidden to drink from vessels made of gold or silver, and forbidden to wear silk and brocade. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Those are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter.'

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ إِلَى الْمَدَائِنِ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَجْهَهُ فَقُلْنَا اسْكُتُوا فَإِنَّا إِنْ سَأَلْنَاهُ لَمْ يُحَدِّثْنَا فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدُ قَالَ أَتدْرُونَ لِمَ رَمَيْتُهُ؟ قُلْنَا لَا قَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُهُ وَذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَقَالَ «هُمَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَة»

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from vessels of gold and silver. He said: “They are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3414)

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَآنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ

[AI] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'Do not drink from gold or silver vessels, and do not wear silk or brocade, for indeed they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter.'"

[AI] Huzaifa sought water from a well or a pool, and he brought a silver vessel and poured water from it. Then he approached the people and apologized, saying, "I did this because I was previously forbidden from wearing silk and brocade and using gold and silver utensils. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us from these things in this worldly life, but they are for us in the hereafter."

اسْتَسْقَى حُذَيْفَةُ مِنْ دِهْقَانٍ أَوْ عِلْجٍ فَأَتَاهُ بِإِنَاءٍ فِضَّةٍ فَحَذَفَهُ بِهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَاعْتَذَرَ وَقَالَ إِنِّي إِنَّمَا فَعَلْتُ بِهِ هَذَا لِأَنِّي كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُهُ قَبْلَ هَذِهِ الْمَرَّةِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا عَنْ لُبْسِ الدِّيبَاجِ وَالْحَرِيرِ وَآنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهُوَ لَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from drinking from vessels made of gold and silver, and from eating from them, and from wearing silk and brocade. He said that those things are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter.

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِيهَا وَأَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ وَقَالَ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ

[AI] "If I had not approached him once or twice, I would not have done this. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us from drinking in vessels made of gold or silver, and from wearing silk and brocade. He said, 'These things are for them in this worldly life, and for you in the Hereafter.'"

لَوْلَا أَنِّي تَقَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْهِ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ لَمْ أَفْعَلْ بِهِ هَذَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ قَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَهَى عَنْ مُتْعَةِ النِّسَاءِ

قَالَ اسْتَسْقَى حُذَيْفَةُ دُهْقَانًا فَسَقَاهُ فِي إِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَخَذَفَهُ بِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ لَمْ أَتَقَدَّمْ إِلَيْكَ مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَعَنْ أَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ حَدِيثًا مُسْنَدًا مِنْ وَجْهٍ صَحِيحٍ غَيْرَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ

قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَأَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَقَالَ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَى مُسْلِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ إِلَّا هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَهَى أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ وَقَالَ هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ يَتَقَارَبُونَ فِي كَلَامِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ؛ أَنَّه نَهَى عَن الشرب في آنية الذهب والفضة

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ؛ أَنَّه نَهَى عَن الْقَزَعِ

[AI] "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited drinking from golden and silver vessels?" They replied, "O Allah, yes."

لِنَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ

[AI] "Do you know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from vessels made of gold and silver?" They said, "O Allah, yes."

لِنَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ؟ قَالُوا اللهُمَّ نَعَمْ

[AI] I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "Do not wear silk or brocade, do not drink from gold or silver vessels, and do not eat from their plates, for they are for you in the hereafter and for them in this world."

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَلَا الدِّيبَاجَ وَلَا تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا فِي صِحَافِهِمَا فَإِنَّهَا لَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating and drinking from gold and silver utensils."

«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْأَكْلِ وَالشُّرْبِ فِي إِنَاءِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ»

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not drink in gold or silver utensils, and do not wear clothes of silk or Dibaj, for these things are for them (unbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5633)

أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ ذَكَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا تَشْرَبُوا فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَلَا تَلْبَسُوا الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ فَإِنَّهَا لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهُمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ»

[AI] Hudhaifa said, "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prohibited us from silver, gold, wearing silk and using perfumes and he said, 'These are for them in this worldly life, and for you in the hereafter.'"

قَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا عَنِ الْفِضَّةِ وَالذَّهَبِ وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَقَالَ «هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ»

[AI] I apologize to you for this. I have already approached it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us and forbade us from drinking from golden and silver utensils and from wearing silk and Dibaj. He said, "They belong to them in this world, and they belong to you in the Hereafter."

إِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ هَذَا إِنِّي كُنْتُ قَدْ تَقَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَامَ فِينَا فَنَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَلْبَسَ الْحَرِيرَ وَالدِّيبَاجَ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَهُوَ لَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ

[AI] Huzaifa requested for some water, so a servant brought him a silver vessel. He took it and threw it away, saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from drinking in vessels made of gold or silver, and from eating in them, as well as wearing silk and brocade garments, and sitting on them." He said, "These are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter."

اسْتَسْقَى حُذَيْفَةُ فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَأَخَذَهُ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِيهَا وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَأَنْ نَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited eating and drinking from utensils made of gold and silver.

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْأَكْلِ وَالشُّرْبِ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ

[AI] That Hudhaifa sought water and a water carrier came to him with a silver vessel, so he took it and threw it away. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from drinking from vessels made of gold and silver, and from eating in them, and from wearing silk and brocade, and from sitting on them."

أَنَّ حُذَيْفَةَ اسْتَسْقَى فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانٌ بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ فَأَخَذَهُ فَرَمَا بِهِ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِيهَا وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَأَنْ نَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهِ

[AI] Huzaifah asked for water, so a man brought a silver vessel to him. He took it and threw it away, saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had forbidden them from drinking in gold and silver vessels, eating in them, wearing silk and brocade, and sitting on them. He said, "These things are for them in this worldly life, and for you in the Hereafter." Qasim narrated to us, and Fadl ibn Sahl narrated to me, from Yahya ibn Ishaq, from Jarir, from Ibn Abi Najih, a similar narration.

اسْتَسْقَى حُذَيْفَةُ فَأَتَاهُ دِهْقَانُ بِإِنَاءِ فِضَّةٍ فَأَخَذَهُ فَرَمَاهُ بِهِ وَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَشْرَبَ فِي آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَأَنْ نَأْكُلَ فِيهَا وَعَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ وَالدِّيبَاجِ وَأَنْ نَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ هُوَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَلَكُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ قَالَ فَأَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ مِثْلَهُ

"الذَّهَبُ وَالفِضَّةُ وَالحَريرُ وَالدِّيبَاج، هِيَ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَكُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ".

(لهم أي الكفار).

"لَا تَشْرَبُوا في آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالفِضَّةِ، وَلَا تَأكُلُوا في صِحَافِهَا وَلَا تَلْبَسُوا الْحَريرَ وَلَا الدِّيبَاجَ؛ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُمْ في الدُّنْيا، وَهُوَ لَكُمْ في الآخِرَةِ".
