[Machine] As for his strength, he was able to lift the stone on his own, and only ten people could lift it with him. And as for his trustworthiness, he said to her, "Walk behind me and describe the path to me; do not describe your body to me." And Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz narrated to us that Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Abdullah Al-Saffar narrated to us that Ahmad ibn Mihran Al-Asbahani narrated to us that Ubaidullah ibn Musa narrated to us that Israel mentioned it and added, saying, "I want to marry one of my daughters to you in return for you hiring me for eight pilgrimages. If you complete ten, it is from you, and I do not want to make things difficult for you. You will find me, Allah willing, among the righteous." [Al-Qasas 27]. Meaning, in good companionship and fulfilling what I said. Musa said, "This is between you and me, whichever of the two terms I complete, there will be no injustice upon me." [Al-Qasas 28]. He said, "Yes, and Allah is a witness to what we say." [Al-Qasas 28]. So he married him and lived with him, which was sufficient for him, and he worked for him in tending to his sheep.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which of the two was fulfilled by Musa (Moses)?" He replied, "The farthest and the best of them."
[Machine] Sufyan, may Allah have mercy on him, who was one of my teachers, was a righteous man. He narrated from Al-Hakam ibn Aban, who narrated from Ikrimah, who narrated from Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I asked Gabriel, ﷺ , which of the two appointed times did Moses, ﷺ , fulfill?" He said, "He fulfilled both of them and completed them."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "While three men were walking, It started raining and they took shelter (refuge) in a cave in a mountain. A big rock rolled down from the mountain and closed the mouth of the cave. They said to each other, "Think of good deeds which you did for Allah's sake only, and invoke Allah by giving reference to those deeds so that He may remove this rock from you." One of them said, 'O Allah! I had old parents and small children and I used to graze the sheep for them. On my return to them in the evening, I used to milk (the sheep) and start providing my parents first of all before my children. One day I was delayed and came late at night and found my parents sleeping. I milked (the sheep) as usual and stood by their heads. I hated to wake them up and disliked to give milk to my children before them, although my children were weeping (because of hunger) at my feet till the day dawned. O Allah! If I did this for Your sake only, kindly remove the rock so that we could see the sky through it.' So, Allah removed the rock a little and they saw the sky. The second man said, 'O Allah! I was in love with a cousin of mine like the deepest love a man may have for a woman. I wanted to outrage her chastity but she refused unless I gave her one hundred Dinars. So, I struggled to collect that amount. And when I sat between her legs, she said, 'O Allah's slave! Be afraid of Allah and do not deflower me except rightfully (by marriage).' So, I got up. O Allah! If I did it for Your sake only, please remove the rock.' The rock shifted a little more. Then the third man said, 'O Allah! I employed a laborer for a Faraq of rice and when he finished his job and demanded his right, I presented it to him, but he refused to take it. So, I sowed the rice many time till I gathered cows and their shepherd (from the yield). (Then after some time) He came and said to me, 'Fear Allah (and give me my right)." I said, 'Go and take those cows and the shepherd.' He said, 'Be afraid of Allah! Don't mock at me.' I said, 'I am not mocking at you. Take (all that).' So, he took all that. O Allah! If I did that for Your sake only, please remove the rest of the rock.' So, Allah removed the rock." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2333)

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Allah did not send a prophet except that he was a shepherd." They said, "Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Even I used to shepherd the sheep of the people of Makkah in exchange for some 'qararit' (a type of wages)."

[Machine] Khadijah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , went on two trips to Jurash, and each trip was by camel. The narration of Abu Abdullah states that in the narration of Abu Muhammad, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I hired myself to Khadijah for two trips to Jurash, by camel."

The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr employed a (pagan) man from the tribe of Bani Ad-Dail and the tribe of Bani 'Abu bin ʿAdi as a guide. He was an expert guide and he broke the oath contract which he had to abide by with the tribe of Al-ʿAsi bin Wail and he was on the religion of Quraish pagans. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr had confidence in him and gave him their riding camels and told him to bring them to the Cave of Thaur after three days. So, he brought them their two riding camels after three days and both of them (The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr) set out accompanied by 'Amir bin Fuhaira and the Dili guide who guided them below Mecca along the road leading to the sea-shore. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your example and the example of the people of the two Scriptures (i.e. Jews and Christians) is like the example of a man who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me from morning till midday for one Qirat?' The Jews accepted and carried out the work. He then asked, Who will work for me from midday up to the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat?' The Christians accepted and fulfilled the work. He then said, 'Who will work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats?' You, Muslims have accepted the offer. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'Why should we work more and get lesser wages?' (Allah) said, 'Have I withheld part of your right?' They replied in the negative. He said, 'It is My Blessing, I bestow upon whomever I wish .' (Using translation from Bukhārī 2268)
I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing on the pulpit, saying, "The remaining period of your stay (on the earth) in comparison to the nations before you, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it till midday, and then they were worn out and were given for their labor, one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it till the time of the ʿAsr prayer, and then they were worn out and were given (for their labor), one Qirat each. Then you people were given the Qur'an and you acted upon it till sunset and so you were given two Qirats each (double the reward of the previous nations)." Then the people of the Torah said, 'O our Lord! These people have done a little labor (much less than we) but have taken a greater reward.' Allah said, 'Have I withheld anything from your reward?' They said, 'No.' Then Allah said, 'That is My Favor which I bestow on whom I wish.' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 7467)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The example of Muslims, Jews and Christians is like the example of a man who employed laborers to work for him from morning till night for specific wages. They worked till midday and then said, 'We do not need your money which you have fixed for us and let whatever we have done be annulled.' The man said to them, 'Don't quit the work, but complete the rest of it and take your full wages.' But they refused and went away. The man employed another batch after them and said to them, 'Complete the rest of the day and yours will be the wages I had fixed for the first batch.' So, they worked till the time of ʿAsr prayer. Then they said, "Let what we have done be annulled and keep the wages you have promised us for yourself.' The man said to them, 'Complete the rest of the work, as only a little of the day remains,' but they refused. Thereafter he employed another batch to work for the rest of the day and they worked for the rest of the day till the sunset, and they received the wages of the two former batches. So, that was the example of those people (Muslims) and the example of this light (guidance) which they have accepted willingly. (Using translation from Bukhārī 2271)

[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , used to order us to give charity. So one of us would go to the marketplace to collect donations. Some of them would bring back only a handful, while others would bring back up to a hundred thousand. And what I see is that each person only looks out for themselves.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had a specific occurrence, which Ali heard about. Ali then went out seeking an action that would enable him to attain something, which he could then present to the Prophet ﷺ. He came across a Jewish man's orchard and fetched him seventeen buckets, each filled with dates. The Jewish man allowed Ali to choose seventeen dates for himself, and Ali brought them to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Where did you get these, O Abu Hasan?" Ali replied, "I heard about the special occurrence that befell you, O Prophet of Allah, so I went out seeking an action to obtain food for you." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "And did the love of Allah and His Messenger inspire you to do this?" Ali replied, "Yes, O Prophet of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "By Allah, there is no servant who loves Allah and His Messenger except that poverty will come to him quicker than a flowing current on his face. Whoever loves Allah and His Messenger, let him be prepared for hardship, and by this, it means patience." It is narrated by Yazid ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn Ka'ab, who said, "I was told by someone who heard Ali ibn Abi Talib mention part of the meaning of this story."
[Machine] {So turn away from them; you are not to be blamed} [Surah Adh-Dhariyat, 54]. None of us remained except that they were certain of their imminent destruction, when the Prophet ﷺ was commanded to turn away from us upon the revelation of this verse. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned that he passed by a woman from the Ansar and there was clay in front of her door. So I said to her, "Do you want me to wet this clay?" She said, "Yes." So I made a condition with her that for every sin, I wet it with a date. So I wet it for her and she gave me sixteen dates. I then brought them to the Prophet ﷺ . It is also narrated from Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) regarding Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in the dispute with a Jewish man. It is also narrated from Abu Hurairah regarding a man of unknown identity in terms of drawing water with a bucket filled with dates.
28.2 [Machine] Renting is not permissible until it is known, and the rent is known. This is based on what we have narrated in the book of transactions from the Prophet ﷺ that he forbade the sale of uncertainty. Renting is a type of transaction, and ignorance in it is uncertainty.
[Machine] "From the Prophet ﷺ: A man should not compete with his brother in bidding, nor propose to his brother's proposal, and do not dispute with one another, and do not trade by casting stones. And whoever hires a worker, let him inform him of his wage."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited the hiring of a hired worker until his wage is made clear to him. Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Muhammad informed us that Abu al-Husayn al-Fasawi narrated to us, who was informed by Abu Ali al-Lu'lu'i, who was informed by Abu Dawud, who was informed by Musa ibn Ismail, who was informed by Hammad ibn Salamah, and he mentioned it while being sent between Ibrahim and Abu Sa'id, and likewise...
[Machine] Then they cooled me off in a victory for us. I approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the companion of Al-Jazur mentioned nothing to me, and in the hadith of Sa'id, he did not increase anything on that. The sheikh said in this: "Indeed, the rewards were unknown, and in the amnesty they were suspended with certainty, and Allah knows best."
[Machine] Muhammad ibn Yazid ibn Rifa'ah narrated this, and this is weak according to some.
[Machine] "He used to say: 'I grew up as an orphan and lived as a poor person, making a living by working for the sons of 'Affan and the daughters of Ghazwan, providing them with food for their stomachs and preparing for them when they settled and accompanying them when they traveled. All praise is due to Allah who made religion the foundation, and Abu Huraira an imam.' It is not known that the Prophet ﷺ was aware of this, but he approved it. It is possible that this was an understanding among them based on mutual agreement, not on a contract."
[Machine] That a man should give another man a garment and say, sell it to me for this and this amount. Whatever you add, it will be yours. And in what Abu Abdur-Rahman As-Sulami narrated to us, Abu Al-Hasan Al-Karizi informed us, Ali ibn Abdul Aziz narrated from Abu Ubaid, Hushaim narrated to us, Amr ibn Dinar reported from Ata, from Ibn Abbas about that. And this is also done by way of contentment, not by way of contract. And Allah knows best.

28.3 [Machine] The Sin of Withholding the Wage of the Employee
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah has mentioned three individuals whom I will be their opponent on the Day of Judgment. As for the person I was his opponent, he was a man whom I gave something to and then he betrayed me. Another person sold a free person, and he consumed the price. And a third person hired a worker, took full work from him, and did not pay him. 11658 And Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz told us, narrating from Abu Qutaybah Salamah bin Al-Fadl Al-Adami in Makkah, narrating from Al-Hasan bin Ali bin Shabeeb Al-Ma'mari, narrating from Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Sabiq, narrating from Yahya bin Sulaim, who mentioned it.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give the hired worker his wages before his sweat dries." Abu Tahir informed us, and Abu Hamid ibn Bilal narrated to us, quoting Muhammad ibn Yahya, who quoted Suwaid al-Anbari, who quoted Muhammad ibn Ammar the Muezzin, from Al-Maqburi, from Abu Huraira, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Give the hired worker his wages before his sweat dries.'"
28.4 [Machine] Rental of camels and livestock
[Machine] I was a man with a disheveled appearance, and people used to tell me that I did not have the means to perform Hajj. So, I met Ibn Umar and said, "O Abu Abdur Rahman, I am a man with a disheveled appearance, and people tell me that I do not have the means to perform Hajj." He asked me, "Don't you perform Tawaf, Sa'i, and throw pebbles at the Jamrah?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Then you have performed Hajj." A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him the same question as I did, but the Prophet ﷺ remained silent and did not answer him until this verse was revealed: "There is no sin for you if you seek the bounty of your Lord." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent someone to him, recited this verse to him, and said, "You have performed Hajj."
28.5 [Machine] What is preferred in delaying tasks; to make it easier for beauty and others.
[Machine] I heard Umar calling out, "Unload the goods, for the hands are tied, and the legs are bound."
[Machine] "So I heard a caller calling out, 'O people, delay the loads, for the man is restrained and the hand is hanging.' So I asked my father, 'Who is this?' He said, 'Umar.' He said, 'Ya'qub Maslama is a trustworthy Kufan, and a hadith with a weak chain of narration has been narrated about him.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you carry a load, delay it, for indeed the hand is suspended and the leg is fettered." Qays bin Rabi' narrated this from Bakr bin Wael, and Sufyan bin Uyaina narrated it from Wael, or Bakr bin Wael, like this with doubt, from Az-Zuhri, who reported it to the Prophet ﷺ . He said, "Delay the loads, for indeed the hands are suspended and the legs are fettered."
28.6 [Machine] What is included in the contract?
[Machine] He went to include the judges. Shuraeh included a judge whose house burned down. He said, "You included me, and my house has burned down." Shuraeh said, "Did you see if his house burned down, would you still leave him his reward?" Ibn 'Uyaynah informed us of this. Ash-Shafi'i said, and it has been narrated from a reliable source that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib included the washer and the dyer and said, "People are not satisfied except with that." 11665 Ibrahim ibn Abi Yahya informed us from Ja'far ibn Muhammad from his father that 'Ali said that. And it is also narrated from 'Umar that including some craftsmen from a weak source is less reliable than this. We do not know any of them to be reliable. It is said that it has been narrated from Ali from another reliable source that he did not include anyone from the judges whose reliability is less than this. It is also confirmed from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah that he said, "There is no guarantee for a craftsman or a hired laborer."
[Machine] And he said, "It is not suitable for people except for that."
[Machine] Ali used to guarantee the worker, and Allah knows best.
[Machine] I witnessed a fragment among the carpenters or the dyers.
[Machine] And he hired a carrier to carry it, and the price of the jug was three hundred or four hundred. The jug fell and broke, and I wanted him to compensate me, but he refused. So I disputed with him until Shurayh intervened and said to him, "He only gave the wage to ensure it, so he guaranteed it." Then the people continued until I settled with him.

[Machine] "So when I met him, I said, 'By Allah, I don't know if I have ever seen you with Ibrahim or not?' So he said, 'Do not do that, O Abu Muhammad; for this will bother me and Allah knows best.'"
28.7 [Machine] No guarantee for the buyer in what he has purchased unless it is specified. It has been narrated to us from Shurayh that he said: There is no guarantee for the buyer. If he exceeds the time, it becomes damaged. Shurayh said: Rent and guarantee should be combined for him.

[Machine] Whichever man rented rent and crossed his companion of Al-Hulayfah, then his rent is obligatory and there is no guarantee on him, Allah knows best. If the Muktari (the person who rented the property) takes back what he rented and passed Al-Hulayfah, then he is obligated to pay the entire rent, if there is no condition in the contract or guarantee on him, if he did not exceed (the property).

[Machine] Punishment is a form of discipline that has no limits from the limits set by Allah. It used to be permissible to abandon it unless there were matters that were done during the time of the Messenger of Allah that were outside of the limits and were not given a punishment, such as looting in the cause of Allah and other things. No punishment was imposed and he forgave. It is said that Umar ibn al-Khattab sent [someone] to a woman concerning something that he had heard from her, and she was divorced. He sought advice and someone said to him, "You are the one who disciplines." Ali said to him, "If he tried his best, then he made a mistake, but if he did not try his best, then he deceived you regarding the dowry." He said, "I have resolved not to sit until I strike her among your people." He said, "Ali ibn Abi Talib said, 'No one dies under a punishment and I find something of it in myself. The truth is that his killing is not permissible unless he dies under the punishment of alcohol, for it is something that we have seen after the Prophet. So whoever dies in it, his ransom is either to be taken from the treasury or to be taken from the discretion of the Imam.'"

She was startled and her startle caused her to miscarry. Her child moved and she gave birth to a premature baby. 'Umar came with this news and he sent it to the Muhajireen (migrants) and told them about her situation. He said, "What do you see?" They said, "We don't see anything on you, O Commander of the Faithful. You are only a teacher and disciplinarian and among the people, Ali is both knowledgeable and silent." He said, "What do you say, O Abu Al-Hasan?" Abu Al-Hasan said, "I say that if they approached you with desires, then they have sinned. And if this is the effort of their opinion, then they have made a mistake. And I see that you deserve compensation, O Commander of the Faithful." He said, "You have spoken the truth. Go, divide it among your people."

28.9 [Machine] Taking Fees for Teaching Quran and Reciting Incantations with Quran
Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ passed by some people staying at a place where there was water, and one of those people had been stung by a scorpion. A man from those staying near the water, came and said to the companions of the Prophet, "Is there anyone among you who can do Ruqya as near the water there is a person who has been stung by a scorpion." So one of the Prophet's companions went to him and recited Surat-al-Fatiha for a sheep as his fees. The patient got cured and the man brought the sheep to his companions who disliked that and said, "You have taken wages for reciting Allah's Book." When they arrived at Medina, they said, ' O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! (This person) has taken wages for reciting Allah's Book" On that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You are most entitled to take wages for doing a Ruqya with Allah's Book." (Using translation from Bukhārī 5737)

Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ went on a journey till they reached some of the 'Arab tribes (at night). They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some of them said (to the others), "Nothing has benefited him, will you go to the people who resided here at night, it may be that some of them might possess something (as treatment)," They went to the group of the companions (of the Prophet ﷺ ) and said, "Our chief has been bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and we have tried everything but he has not benefited. Have you got anything (useful)?" One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it." They agrees to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited (Surat-ul-Fatiha): 'All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds' and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain, and got up and started walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them (i.e. the companions) then suggested to divide their earnings among themselves, but the one who performed the recitation said, "Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet ﷺ and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order." So, they went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and narrated the story. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "How did you come to know that Suratul- Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?" Then he added, "You have done the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a share for me as well." The Prophet ﷺ smiled thereupon. (Using translation from Bukhārī 2276)

I taught some persons of the people of Suffah writing and the Qur'an. A man of them presented to me a bow. I said: It cannot be reckoned property; may I shoot with it in Allah's path? I must come to the Apostle of of Allah ﷺ and ask him (about it). So I came to him and said : Messenger of Allah ﷺ, one of those whom I have been teaching writing and the Qur'an has presented me a bow, and as it cannot be reckoned property, may I shoot with it in Allah's path? He said: If you want to have a necklace of fire on you, accept it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3416)
