I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raising his thumbs in prayer up to the lobes of his ears.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ إِبْهَامَيْهِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ إِلَى شَحْمَةِ أُذُنَيْهِ

I saw that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands when he began prayer, but he did not raise them until he finished (prayer). Abu Dawud said: This tradition is not sound.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْفَعْهُمَا حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ

"I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and when he started to pray he said the Takbir and raised his hands until they were in level with his ears. Then he recited the Opening of the Book, and when he had finished he said 'Amin' and raised his voice with it."

صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى حَاذَتَا أُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا قَالَ آمِينَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَا صَوْتَهُ

He saw the Prophet ﷺ, when he started to pray, raise his hands until his thumbs were almost level with his earlobes.

أَنَّهُ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَكَادَ إِبْهَامَاهُ تُحَاذِي شَحْمَةَ أُذُنَيْهِ

His father said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he started to pray, raise his hands until they were parallel to his shoulders, (and he did that) when he bowed and when he raised his head from bowing."

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلاَةَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُحَاذِيَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ وَإِذَا رَكَعَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ

“I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raising his hands during prayer until they were parallel with his shoulders when he started to pray, when he bowed and when he prostrated.”

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ حَذْوَ مَنْكِبَيْهِ حِينَ يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلاَةَ وَحِينَ يَرْكَعُ وَحِينَ يَسْجُدُ

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , raising his hands when he started the prayer.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to raise his hands when he started the prayer until his thumbs reached the level of his ears.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ إِبْهَامَاهُ حِذَاءَ أُذُنَيْهِ

[AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began the prayer, he would raise his hands until his thumbs were level with his ears.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ، رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ إِبْهَامَاهُ حِذَاءَ أُذُنَيْهِ.

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands when he began the prayer.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ.

Wa’il b.Hujr said that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands when he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 725)

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ مَعَ التَّكْبِيرِ

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise his hands when he began the prayer, until his thumbs were level with the lobes of his ears.

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ، حَتَّى حَاذَتْ إِبْهَامُهُ شَحْمَةَ أُذُنَيْهِ.

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying towards his riding animal.

«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي إِلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ»

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ making a supplication and he raised his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits.

«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَعَا فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ بَيَاضَ إِبْطَيْهِ»

[AI] He said, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ when he began the prayer, he raised his hands until they reached his ears."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى جَاوَزَ بِهِمَا أُذُنَيْهِ»

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he would raise his hands until they reached his ears.

«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ يُوجِبُ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَا أُذُنَيْهِ»

[AI] "I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and when he started the prayer, he said the takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) and raised his hands until they were level with his ears."

«صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى حَاذَتَا بِأُذُنَيْهِ»

[AI] I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I saw him raising his hands to his ears.

«صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى أُذُنَيْهِ»

[AI] "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he started the prayer, he raised his hands until the sides of his thumbs aligned with the lobes of his ears."

«رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُحَاذِيَ طَرَفُ إِبْهَامَيْهِ شَحْمَةَ أُذُنَيْهِ»

[AI] I saw the Prophet ﷺ when he started the prayer, he raised his hands equivalent to his ears.

«رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ حِينَ افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ أُذُنَيْهِ»

صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ كَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى حَاذَى بِأُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا قَالَ «آمِينَ» يَمُدُّ بِهَا صَوْتَهُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , used to raise his hands when starting the prayer until they were level with his ears. Yazid bin Abi Ziyad was not strong.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَكُونَا حَذْوَ أُذُنَيْهِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ غَيْرُ قَوِيٍّ

"رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى كَادَتَا تُحَاذِيَانِ بِأُذُنَيْهِ".
