Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The person riding greets the person walking. The person walking greets the person sitting. The small group greets the large group."

الأدب المفرد:٩٩٣ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ أَنَّ ثَابِتًا أَخْبَرَهُ وَهُوَ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَرْوِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

The rider should first greet the pedestrian, and the pedestrian the one who is seated and a small group should greet a larger group (with as-Salam-u-'Alaikum).

The young should salute the old, the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting, and a small company should salute a large one.

tirmidhi:2705 – Sūwayd b. Naṣr > ʿAbdullāh > Ḥaywah b. Shurayḥ > Abū Hāniʾ Āsmuh Ḥumayd b. Hāniʾ al-Khawlānī > Abū ʿAlī al-Janbī > Faḍālah b. ʿUbayd

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The horseman gives Salam to the walking person, the walking person to the one standing and the few to the many."
