Fadala reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The person riding greets the person sitting and the small group greets the larger."

الأدب المفرد:٩٩٦ – حَدَّثَنَا أَصْبَغُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ هَانِئٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ

The rider should first greet the pedestrian, and the pedestrian the one who is seated and a small group should greet a larger group (with as-Salam-u-'Alaikum).

مسلم:٢١٦٠ – حَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ أَنَّ ثَابِتًا مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ

The young should salute the old, the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting, and a small company should salute a large one.

أبو داود:٥١٩٨ – حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسَلِّمُ الصَّغِيرُ عَلَى الْكَبِيرِ وَالْمَارُّ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ

tirmidhi:2704 – Sūwayd b. Naṣr > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak > Maʿmar > Hammām b. Munabbih > Abū Hurayrah

from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet ﷺ said: "The young one gives the Salam to the elder, the one passing the by to the one sitting and the few to the many."

الترمذي:٢٧٠٤ – حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يُسَلِّمُ الصَّغِيرُ عَلَى الْكَبِيرِ وَالْمَارُّ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ قَالَ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ
