[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The rider should greet the one who is walking, and the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting, and he (the one who is sitting) should greet the one who is in a larger group. And he said, (the greeting of) 'Salaam' is (like) a mercy in Baghdad, a little over a lot."  

أحمد:١٠٦٢٥ – حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا حُبَيْبٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الشَّهِيدِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَقَالَ بِبَغْدَادَ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَىالْكَثِيرِ وَالصَّغِيرُ عَلَى الْكَبِيرِ وَقَالَ رَوْحٌ بِبَغْدَادَ الْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ

The rider should first greet the pedestrian, and the pedestrian the one who is seated and a small group should greet a larger group (with as-Salam-u-'Alaikum).  

مسلم:٢١٦٠ – حَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ أَنَّ ثَابِتًا مَوْلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُسَلِّمُ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الْمَاشِي وَالْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ وَالْقَلِيلُ عَلَى الْكَثِيرِ

The young should salute the old, the one who is passing by should salute the one who is sitting, and a small company should salute a large one.
