Never a prophet dies in a state that he is not made to see his abode in Paradise, and then given a choice. 'A'isha said that when Messenger of Allah ﷺ was about to leave the world, his head was over her thigh and he had fallen into swoon three times. When he felt relief his eyes were fixed at the ceiling. He then said: O Allah, along with the high companions (i. e. along with the Apostles who live in the most elevated place of the Paradise). (On hearing these words), I then said (to myself) He is not going to opt us and I remembered a hadith which he had narrated to us as he was healthy and in which he said: No prophet dies until he sees his abode in Paradise, he is then given a choice. Asma', daughter of Abu Bakr said: Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I would be on the Cistern so that I would be seeing those who would be coming to me from you, but some people would be detained (before reaching me). I would say: My Lord, they are my followers and belong to my Ummah, and it would be said to me: Do you know what they did after you? By Allah, they did not do good after you, and they turned back upon their heels. A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Livestock are destroyed and the roads are cut off." So Messenger of Allah ﷺ invoked Allah for rain and it rained from that Friday till the next Friday. The same person came again and said, "Houses have collapsed, roads are cut off, and the livestock are destroyed. Please pray to Allah to withhold the rain." Messenger of Allah ﷺ (stood up and) said, "O Allah! (Let it rain) on the plateaus, on the hills, in the valleys and over the places where trees grow." So the clouds cleared away from Medina as clothes are taken off .

I heard Anas bin Malik saying, "On a Friday a person entered the main Mosque through the gate facing the pulpit while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the Khutba. The man stood in front of Allah's Apostle and said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; so please pray to Allah for rain.' " Anas added, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain! O Allah! Bless us with rain!' " Anas added, "By Allah, we could not see any trace of cloud in the sky and there was no building or a house between us and (the mountains of) Sila." Anas added, "A heavy cloud like a shield appeared from behind it (i.e. Sila' Mountain). When it came in the middle of the sky, it spread and then rained." Anas further said, "By Allah! We could not see the sun for a week. Next Friday a person entered through the same gate and at that time Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the Friday's Khutba. The man stood in front of him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The livestock are dying and the roads are cut off, please pray to Allah to withhold rain.' " Anas added, "Messenger of Allah ﷺ I raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Round about us and not on us. O Allah! On the plateaus, on the mountains, on the hills, in the valleys and on the places where trees grow.' So the rain stopped and we came out walking in the sun." Sharik asked Anas whether it was the same person who had asked for the rain (the last Friday). Anas replied that he did not know.

In the lifetime of Messenger of Allah ﷺ the people were afflicted with a (famine) year. While the Prophet was delivering the Khutba (sermon) on the pulpit on a Friday, a Bedouin stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The livestock are dying and the families (offspring) are hungry: please pray to Allah to bless us with rain." Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised both his hands towards the sky and at that time there was not a trace of cloud in they sky. Then the clouds started gathering like mountains. Before he got down from the pulpit I saw rainwater trickling down his beard. It rained that day, the next day, the third day, the fourth day and till the next Friday, when the same Bedouin or some other person stood up (during the Friday Khutba) and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! The houses have collapsed and the livestock are drowned. Please invoke Allah for us." So Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised both his hands and said, "O Allah! Around us and not on us." Whichever side the Prophet ﷺ directed his hand, the clouds dispersed from there till a hole (in the clouds) was formed over Medina. The valley of Qanat remained flowing (with water) for one month and none, came from outside who didn't talk about the abundant rain.

Messenger of Allah, the camels died and the passages were blocked; so supplicate Allah to send down rain upon us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and then said: (O Allah, send down rain upon us; O Allah, send dowp rain upon us; O Allah, send down rain upon us. Anas said: By Allah, we did not see any cloud or any patch of it, and there was neither any house or building standing between us and the (hillock) Sal'a. There appeared a cloud in the shape of a shield from behind it, and as it (came high) in the sky it spread and then there was a downpour of rain. By Allah, we did not see the sun throughout the week. Then (that very man) came on the coming Friday through the same door when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the sermon. He stood in front of him and said: Messenger of Allah, our animals died and the passages blocked. Supplicate Allah to stop the rain for us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ again raised his hands and said: O Allah, let it (rain) fall in our suburbs and not on us, O Allah (send it down) on the hillocks and small mountains and the river-beds and at places where trees grow. The rain stopped, and as we stepped out we were walking in sun- shine. He (the narrator) said to Sharik: I asked Anas b. Malik if he was the same man. He said: I do not know.

A man entered the masjid when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the Khutbah. He turned to face the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, our wealth has been destroyed and the routes have been cut off. Pray to Allah (SWT) to send us rain.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands then said: "O Allah, send us rain." Anas said: "By Allah, we had not seen even a wisp of a cloud in the sky and there were no houses or buildings between us and (the mountain of ) Sal'. Then a cloud like a shield appeared, and when it reached the middle of the sky it spread and it began to rain." Anas said: "By Allah, we did not see the sun for a week. Then a man entered through that door on the following Friday, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing and delivering the Khutbah. He turned to face him standing and said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, may Allah (SWT) send blessings upon you. Our wealth has been destroyed and the routes have been cut off. Pray to Allah (SWT) to withold (the rain) from us.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us.; O Allah, on the hills and mountains, the bottoms of the valleys and where the trees grow.' Then it stopped raining and we went out walking in the sun." Sharik said: 'I asked Anas: 'Was he the same man?' He said: 'No.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1518)

Messenger of Allah ﷺ I was delivering the Khutba (sermon) on a Friday when the people stood up, shouted and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! There is no rain (drought), the trees have dried and the livestock are destroyed; Please pray to Allah for rain." So Messenger of Allah ﷺ said twice, "O Allah! Bless us with rain." By Allah, there was no trace of cloud in the sky and suddenly the sky became overcast with clouds and it started raining. The Prophet ﷺ came down the pulpit and offered the prayer. When he came back from the prayer (to his house) it was raining and it rained continuously till the next Friday. When the Prophet started delivering the Friday Khutba (sermon), the people started shouting and said to him, "The houses have collapsed and the roads are cut off; so please pray to Allah to withhold the rain." So the Prophet ﷺ smiled and said, "O Allah! Round about us and not on us." So the sky became clear over Medina but it kept on raining over the outskirts (of Medina) and not a single drop of rain fell over Median. I looked towards the sky which was as bright and clear as a crown.

"The Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Khutbah one Friday when the people stood up and shouted: 'O Prophet of Allah! There has been no rain and the animals have died. Pray to Allah (SWT) to send us rain.' He said: 'O Allah, send us rain; O Allah, send us rain.' By Allah (SWT), we could not see even a wisp of a cloud in the sky, then a cloud appeared and grew, and it rained. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down and prayed, and the people departed, and it continued to rain until the following Friday. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to deliver the Khutbah, they called out to him and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, the houses are destroyed and the routes are cut off. Pray to Allah to take it away from us.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us!' Then is dispersed from Al-Madinah and rain fell around Al-Madinah but not a single drop fell on Al-Madinah. I looked, and it was in something like a ring."

[Machine] A man called the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a Friday while he was delivering a sermon to the people in the city. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, there has been a drought, the ground has dried up, and the people are suffering. Please ask your Lord to send rain to us." The Prophet ﷺ looked at the sky, and we did not see many clouds. So, he performed the prayer for rain, and the clouds started gathering and then it rained until the streets of the city were filled with water and the roads turned into rivers. And it continued like this until the next Friday, without the rain stopping. Then, this man or someone else stood up while the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon and said, "O Prophet of Allah, ask Allah to stop the rain." The Prophet of Allah ﷺ smiled and said, "O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not on us." So, he prayed to his Lord, and the clouds broke apart around the city, raining heavily on its surroundings but not on the city itself.
