Prophet's ﷺ advice to Uqbah b. Amir

that I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to me, "O ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir! Tie back ˹ties of kinship˺ with the one who cuts it off, give to the one who prevents you from having, and forgive the one who wrongs you."

He said that then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to me, "O ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir! Control your tongue, cry over your sins, and let your home be sufficient for you."

He said that then I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said to me, "O ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir! Shall I not teach you the Sūrahs that such were not revealed in the Torah, nor in the Psalms, and not in the Gospel? Do not let a night go by without reciting 'Say, He is Allah, the One Absolutely Unique.' (Ikhlāṣ 112:1), and 'Say, I seek refuge from the Lord of the daybreak.' (Falaq 113:1), and 'Say, I seek refuge from the Lord of humankind.' (Nās 114:1)" 

ʿUqbah said that never a night went by and I did not recite them, and I was obliged to supplicate through them since the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered me to do so.

لَقِيتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا عُقْبَةُ بْنَ عَامِرٍ! صِلْ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ، وَأَعْطِ مَنْ حَرَمَكَ، وَاعْفُ عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ»

قَالَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا عُقْبَةُ بْنَ عَامِرٍ! أَمْلِكْ لِسَانَكَ، وَابْكِ عَلَى خَطِيئَتِكَ، وَلْيَسَعْكَ بَيْتُكَ»

قَالَ ثُمَّ لَقِيتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي «يَا عُقْبَةُ بْنَ عَامِرٍ! أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ سُوَرًا مَا أُنْزِلَتْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَلَا فِي الزَّبُورِ وَلَا فِي الْإِنْجِيلِ وَلَا فِي الْفُرْقَانِ مِثْلُهُنَّ؟ لَا يَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَيْلَةٌ إِلَّا قَرَأْتَهُنَّ فِيهَا {قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ} وَ{قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ} وَ{قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ}» 

قَالَ عُقْبَةُ: فَمَا أَتَتْ عَلَيَّ لَيْلَةٌ إِلَّا قَرَأْتُهُنَّ فِيهَا وَحُقَّ لِي أَنْ لَا أَدَعَهُنَّ وَقَدْ أَمَرَنِي بِهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three characteristics that, if someone possesses them, Allah will account for them with a light reckoning and will admit them to Paradise by His mercy." They asked, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The one who gives to those who have deprived him, forgives those who have wronged him, and maintains ties with those who have cut him off." They asked, "What then, O Messenger of Allah, if we do all of that?" He said, "Allah will account for you with a light reckoning and admit you to Paradise by His mercy."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ حَاسَبَهُ اللَّهُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا وَأَدْخَلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ» قَالُوا لِمَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تُعْطِي مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَتَعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ» قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَمَا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تُحَاسَبَ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا وَيُدْخِلَكَ اللَّهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ»

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَحْلُمُ عَنْ مَنْ جَهِلَ عَلَيْكَ وَتَعْفُو عَنْ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَتُعْطِي مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ ثلاث من كن فيه حاسبه الله حسابا يسيرا وأدخله الجنة برحمته قالوا وما هي يانبي الله بأبي أنت وأمي؟ قال تعطي من حرمك وتصل من قطعك وتعفو عمن ظلمك فإذا فعلت ذلك فإنه يدخلك الجنة برحمته

[AI] I met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about the remnants of deeds?" He said, "To give to those who have deprived you, to maintain relationships with those who have severed ties with you, and to pardon those who have wronged you."

لَقِيتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي مَا فواضلُ الْأَعْمَالِ؟ قَالَ «أَنْ تُعْطِيَ مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَتَصِلَ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ وَتَعْفُوَ عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Shall I not guide you to the noblest of character in this world and the Hereafter? It is to forgive those who wronged you, to give to those who deprived you, and to maintain ties with those who cut you off."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَكْرَمِ أَخْلَاقِ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ؟ تَعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَتُعْطِي مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three qualities that, if found in a person, Allah will account for them with an easy reckoning and admit them into Paradise by His mercy." They asked, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Those who give to those who have deprived them, forgive those who have wronged them, and maintain ties with those who have severed ties with them." They asked, "What will be my reward if I do that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You will be held accountable with an easy reckoning and Allah will admit you into Paradise by His mercy."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ حَاسَبَهُ اللهُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا وَأَدْخَلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ قَالُوا مَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ تُعْطِي مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَتَعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ قَالَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَمَا لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ أَنْ تُحَاسَبَ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا وَيُدْخِلَكَ اللهُ الْجَنَّةَ بِرَحْمَتِهِ

"أفضلُ الفضائلِ أن تَصلَ مِن قَطَعك، وتُعْطى مِن حرمك، وتصفحَ عمَّن ظلمك".

"أَلا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى خَيْرِ أَخْلَاق أَهْل الدُّنْيَا والآخِرَةِ؟ مَنْ وَصَلَ مَنْ قَطَعَهُ، وَعَفَا عَمنْ ظَلَمَه، وَأَعْطَى مَنْ حَرَمَهُ ".

"أَلا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَكْرَم أَخْلَاقِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخرَة؟ تَعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ، وَتُعْطِى مَنْ حَرَمَكَ، وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ ".

"ألَا أُنبِّئكم بما يُشرِّفُ اللَّه به البينانَ ويرفعُ به الدرجات؟ أن تحلُمَ على من جَهل عليكَ، وأن تَصِلَ من قطعك، وأن تعطى من حرمك، وتُغْضِى عمن ظلمك".

"ثَلَاثٌ مَن كُنَّ فِيهِ حاسَبَهُ اللَّه حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا، وأَدْخَلهُ الْجَنَّةَ برحْمَتِهِ: تُعْطِى مَن حَرمكَ، وَتعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظلمَك، وَتصِل مَنْ قطعَك".

"ثَلَاثَةٌ مِن مَكَارِم الأَخْلَاقِ عِنْدَ اللَّه: أن تَعْفُوَ عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ، وَتَصِلَ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ، وَتُعْطِى مَنْ حَرَمَكَ".

"مَكَارِمُ الأَخْلاقِ عِنْدَ اللهِ ثَلاثَةٌ: تعْفُو عمَّن ظَلَمَكَ، وَتُعْطِى مَنْ حَرَمَكَ، وَتَصِل مَنْ قَطَعَك".

"عن على قال: قال لى رسول الله ﷺ : أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى خَيْرِ أَخْلاَقِ الأوَّلِينَ والآخِرين؟ قُلتُ: بَلَى يَا رَسُول الله، قالَ: تُعْطِى مَنْ حَرَمَكَ، وتَعْفُو عَمَّنْ ظَلَمَكَ، وتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ".

"عَنْ عَلِىٍّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَلَا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى أَكْرَمِ أَخْلَاقِ الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ؟ تَعْفُو عَنْ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ وَتُعْطِى مَنْ حَرَمَكَ، وَتَصِلُ مَنْ قَطَعَكَ".
