The Prophet ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. One year he did not observe i'tikaf. When the next year came, he observed i'tikaf for twenty nights (i.e. days). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2463)
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ «يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَسَافَرَ عَامًا فَلَمْ يَعْتَكِفْ فَلَمَّا كَانَ قَابِلٌ اعْتَكَفَ عِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً الِاجْتِهَادُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ وَالْتِمَاسُ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فِيهَا»
The Prophet ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan. One year he did not observe i'tikaf. When the next year came, he observed i'tikaf for twenty nights (i.e. days).

"The Prophet would perform I'tikaf during the last ten (nights) of Ramadan. One year he did not perform I'tikaf, so he performed I'tikaf for twenty (nights) in the following year."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَعْتَكِفُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَلَمْ يَعْتَكِفْ عَامًا فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي الْعَامِ الْمُقْبِلِ اعْتَكَفَ عِشْرِينَ

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. (Using translation from Muslim 1171a)

"عَنْ أُبىٍّ قَالَ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، فَسَافَرَ عَامًا فَلَمْ يَعْتَكِفْ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنْ قَابِلٍ اعْتَكَفَ عِشْرِينَ يَوْمًا".
