[Machine] "We were with the Prophet ﷺ when the sun set, so he immediately rushed to the mosque, hastily removed his garment and performed two rak'ahs of prayer like your regular prayers. Then he turned to his companions and said, 'Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah by which He instills fear in His servants. They do not eclipse due to the death of anyone among the people. Furthermore, my son has passed away. So, if you ever witness an eclipse, hasten to perform prayer until what you fear subsides.'"

"There was an eclipse of the sun, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up in a rush, fearing that it might be the Hour. He went to the masjid, where he stood and prayed, standing, bowing and prostrating for the longest time that I ever saw him do in prayer. Then he said: 'These signs that Allah (SWT) sends do not occur for the death or birth of anyone, but Allah (SWT) sends them to strike fear into His slaves. If you see any of these things, then hasten to remember Him, call upon Him supplicate and ask for His forgiveness.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1503)

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, it was narrated that he "performed two units (rak'atayn) of prayer during the solar and lunar eclipses, just like your prayers."

[Machine] The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to pray. He continued to pray until he almost couldn't perform the rukoo' (bowing position), then he performed rukoo' until he almost couldn't raise his head, and then he raised his head. He began to supplicate, cry, and say, "O Lord, did You not promise me not to punish them while I am among them? Did You not promise me not to punish them while we seek Your forgiveness?" After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished praying, the sun became visible again. He stood up, praised and glorified Allah, and said, "Verily, the sun and the moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. So, when they are eclipsed, rush to the remembrance of Allah." Then he said, "Paradise was shown to me, and if I wished, I could have plucked a cluster from it. Hellfire was shown to me, and I became so cautious of it that I feared it would envelop you. So, I would say, 'Didn't You promise me not to punish them while I am among them? O Lord, didn't You promise me not to punish them while they seek Your forgiveness?'" He said, "Then I saw a pitch-black female camel tied. She was neither fed nor watered, and she was not allowed to eat from the vegetation on the ground. So, every time she turned towards it, she was burned by fire. I also saw a man being pushed in the Fire with two staffs having hooks at the tips. I also saw a man reclining on his elbow in the Fire."

'Amrah told him that Aishah told her that a Jewish woman came to her and said: "May Allah protect you from the torment of the grave." Aishah said: "O Messenger of Allah, will people be tormented in the graves?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought refuge with Allah. 'Aishah said: "The Prophet ﷺ went out, and the sun became eclipsed. We went out to another room and the women gathered with us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and that was at the time of forenoon. He stood for a long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he raises his head and stood for a shorter time than the first one; then he bowed for a shorter time than the first one. Then he prostrated, then he stood up for the second (rak'ah) and did the same again, except that his bowing an prostrating were shorter than in the first rak'ah. Then he prostrated, and the eclipse had ended. When he had finished, he sat on the minbar and one of the things he said was: 'The people will be tried in their graves like the trial of the Dajjal.' Aishah siad: 'After that, we used to hear him seeking refuge with Allah (SWT) from the torment of the grave." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1475)

[Machine] The sun set during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up for prayer. He recited a long Surah, then bowed down for a moment, then raised his head and recited another Surah. When he finished reciting the second Surah, he bowed down again, then prostrated. He then stood up for the second unit of prayer, recited another Surah, and stood for a shorter time than the first unit. Then he bowed down and his bowing was shorter than the first. He then prostrated. When he raised his head from prostration, he said, "There is nothing that you are promised but I have seen it in my place here. And I have seen myself taking a bunch of grapes from Paradise when you saw me moving forward. And I have seen Hellfire breaking apart when you saw me staying back. And I have seen 'Amr bin Luhy (an idolater in Makkah) the one who will be dragging his intestines."

[Machine] The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed. He prolonged the standing, then he performed a bow, then he raised his head and stood again shorter than the first. Then he performed a bow again and raised his head, standing shorter than the first. Then he performed three units of prayer, then he prostrated, then he raised his head and stood up, and he performed three units of prayer, in which his standing was shorter than the first. Then he prostrated and then he finished the prayer, and by that time the sun had reappeared. He said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon do not eclipse due to the death or birth of anyone. Rather, they are two signs from the signs of Allah. So when you see them eclipse, offer prayer until it becomes clear."

There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had died. The people began to to say that there was an eclipse on account of the death of Ibrahim. The Prophet ﷺ stood up and led the people in prayer performing six bowings and four prostrations. he said: Allah is most great, and then recited from the Qur'an and prolonged the recitation. He then bowed nearly as long as he stood. He then raised his head and recited from the Qur'an but it was less than the first (recitation). He then bowed nearly as long as he stood. He then raised his head and then recited from the Quran for the third time, but it was less than the second recitation. He then bowed nearly as long as he stood. he then raised his head and then recited from the Qur'an for the third time, but it was less than the second recitation. he then bowed nearly as long as he stood. Then he raised his head and went down for prostration. he made two prostrations. He then stood and made three bowings before prostrating himself, the preceding bowing being more lengthy than the following, but he bowed nearly as long as he stood. He then stepped back during the prayer and the rows (of the people) too stepped back along with him. Then he stepped forward and stood in his place, and the rows too stepped forward. he then finished the prayer and the sun had become bright. He said: O people, the sun and the moon are two of Allah's signs; they are not eclipsed on account of a man's death. So when you see anything of that nature, offer prayer until the sun becomes bright. The narrator then narrated the rest of the tradition. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1178)

When, a boy from the Ansar and I were shooting (arrows) towards two of our targets, the sun was sighted by the people at the height of two or three lances above the horizon. It became black like the black herb called tannumah. One of us said to his companion: Let us go to the mosque; by Allah, this incident of the sun will surely bring something new in the community of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. As we reached it, we suddenly saw that he (the Prophet) had already come out (of his house). He stepped forward for a long time as much as he could do so in the prayer. But we did not hear his voice. He then performed a bowing and prolonged it as much as he could do in the prayer. But we did not hear his voice. He then prostrated himself with us and prolonged it which he never did in the prayer before. But we did not hear his voice. He then did similarly in the second rak'ah. The sun became bright when he sat after the second rak'ah. Then he uttered the salutation. He then stood up, praised Allah, and extolled Him, and testified that there was no god but Allah and testified that he was His servant and apostle. Ahmad ibn Yunus then narrated the address of the Prophet ﷺ. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1184)

He said: 'The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah (SWT) and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that then remember Allah (SWT) the Mighty and Sublime.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, we saw you stretching out your hand when you were standing, then we saw you moving backward. He said: 'I saw Paradise-or it was shown to me- and I reached out to a take a bunch of its fruits. If I ha taken it you would have eaten from it for as long as this world lasts. And I saw Hell and I have never seen anything like it, and I saw that most of its inhabitants are women.' They said: "Why, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: 'Because of their ingratitude.' It was said: 'Are they ungrateful to Allah?' He said: 'They are ungrateful to their husbands and they are ungrateful for kind treatment. If you are kind to one of them for a lifetime, then she sees (one) bad thing from you, she will say: I have never seen anything good from you.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1493)

[Machine] He once stood as a preacher and mentioned a hadith in his sermon about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Samurah, one of the Ansar, said, "There was a young boy with me, and we used to throw arrows at a target during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . When the sun rose, it would shine in the eyes of the onlooker like the tip of a spear or two spears turned black. One of us said to his companion, 'Let's go to the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and, by Allah, the sun will rise today and mention a hadith to the Messenger of Allah in his ummah.' So, we went towards the mosque until we encountered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he came out and straightened his back and prayed. He stood with us as long as he ever stood in prayer, to the point where we could not hear his voice. Then he stood up and did the same in the second raka'ah. Then he sat, and as he sat, the sunlight cleared. He gave the Salam and left, and he praised Allah and glorified Him, and testified that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Then he said, 'O people, I am only human, a Messenger who warns you about Allah. If you know that I have omitted anything in conveying the message of my Lord, then let me know.' The people said, 'We bear witness that you have conveyed the message of your Lord, advised your ummah, and fulfilled what was upon you.' Then he said, 'As for what follows, there are people who claim that when an eclipse occurs for the sun and moon, and when stars are removed from their positions due to the death of great men from the people of the earth, they are lying. Rather, these are the signs of Allah by which He frightens His servants. Thus, let those of them who will repent, as by Allah, I have seen things that you have not encountered in your worldly affairs nor in your Hereafter since I stood praying. And by Allah, the Hour will not be established until thirty liars will emerge, one of whom is the one-eyed False Messiah (Dajjal), whose eye is like the raised lump of flesh on the side of 'Abi Talha, the blind man, between him and the room of 'A'ishah. It will appear that he (Dajjal) is Allah, so whoever believes in him, confirms his belief in him, and follows him, then his good deeds will not benefit him from the account of his past deeds. And he (Dajjal) will appear on the entire earth except for the Haram and the blessed land of Al-Masjid al-Aqsa. And truly, he will drive the Muslims towards Al-Masjid al-Aqsa, where they will be besieged intensely."

He said: 'O Allah, send us rain; O Allah, send us rain.' By Allah (SWT), we could not see even a wisp of a cloud in the sky, then a cloud appeared and grew, and it rained. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came down and prayed, and the people departed, and it continued to rain until the following Friday. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to deliver the Khutbah, they called out to him and said: 'O Prophet of Allah, the houses are destroyed and the routes are cut off. Pray to Allah to take it away from us.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us!' Then is dispersed from Al-Madinah and rain fell around Al-Madinah but not a single drop fell on Al-Madinah. I looked, and it was in something like a ring." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1517)

"There was no rain for a year, so some of the Muslims went to the Prophet ﷺ one Friday and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, there has been no rain; the land has become bare and our wealth has been destroyed.' He raised his hands, and we did not see any cloud in the sky. He stretched forth his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits, praying to Allah (SWT) for rain. When we finished praying Jumu'ah, even a young man whose house nearby was worried about how he would get home. That lasted for a week, then on the following Friday they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, houses have been destroyed and all travel has been ceased.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at how quickly the sons of Adam become weary, and he said with his hands raised: 'O Allah, around us and not on us,' and it dispersed from Al-Madinah." The people complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ of the lack of rain, so he gave an order for a pulpit. It was then set up for him in the place of prayer. He fixed a day for the people on which they should come out. Aisha said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the rim of the sun appeared, sat down on the pulpit, and having pronounced the greatness of Allah and expressed His praise, he said: You have complained of drought in your homes, and of the delay in receiving rain at the beginning of its season. Allah has ordered you to supplicate Him has and promised that He will answer your prayer. Then he said: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe, the Compassionate, the Merciful, the Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no god but Allah Who does what He wishes. O Allah, Thou art Allah, there is no deity but Thou, the Rich, while we are the poor. Send down the rain upon us and make what Thou sendest down a strength and satisfaction for a time. He then raised his hands, and kept raising them till the whiteness under his armpits was visible. He then turned his back to the people and inverted or turned round his cloak while keeping his hands aloft. He then faced the people, descended and prayed two rak'ahs. Allah then produced a cloud, and the storm of thunder and lightning came on. Then the rain fell by Allah's permission, and before he reached his mosque streams were flowing. When he saw the speed with which the people were seeking shelter, he ﷺ laughed till his back teeth were visible. Then he said: I testify that Allah is Omnipotent and that I am Allah's servant and apostle. Abu Dawud said: This is a ghraib (rate) tradition, but its chain is sound. The people of Medina recite "maliki" (instead of maaliki) yawm al-din" (the master of the Day of Judgement). But this tradition (in which the word maalik occurs) is an evidence for them. [Machine] They used to seek rain (from God) through the Prophet Muhammadﷺ so he would pray for rain and they would be given rain. After the death of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ during the reign of Umar, they experienced drought. Umar went out with Abbas to seek rain through him, and Umar said, "O Allah, when we experienced drought during the time of your Prophet and sought rain through him, you granted us rain. And today, I seek your help through the uncle of your Prophet, so grant us rain." The rain then fell.

It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that the Prophet ﷺ led his Companions in the fear prayer. He led them all in bowing, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the row nearest him prostrated, and the others stood up, then when he stood up, they prostrated twice by themselves. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then made the Takbir and we made the Takbir with him. He then performed the Ruku (bowing) and we performed the Ruku with him. He then performed the Sujud (prostration) and the first row performed the Sujud with him. When he stood up from Sujud, the first row performed the Sujud, and the second row advanced and stood in the place of the first row while the first row sat back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made the Takbir and we made the Takbir with him. He then performed the Ruku and we performed the Ruku with him. He then performed the Sujud and the first row performed the Sujud with him. He then sat down and the second row performed the Sujud. Then, they all gave Salam (peace).

Did you pray in time of danger with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? AbuHurayrah replied: Yes. Marwan then asked: When? AbuHurayrah said: On the occasion of the Battle of Najd. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to offer the afternoon prayer. One section stood with him (to pray) and the other was standing before the enemy, and their backs were towards the qiblah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ uttered the takbir and all of them too uttered the takbir, i.e. those who were with him and those who were facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered one rak'ah and the section that was with him also prayed one rak'ah. He then prostrated himself and those who were with him also prostrated, while the other section was standing before the enemy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then stood up and the section with him also stood up. They went and faced the enemy and the section that was previously facing the enemy stepped forward. They bowed and prostrated while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was standing in the same position. Then they stood up and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon) prayed another rak'ah and all of them bowed and prostrated along with him. After that the section that was standing before the enemy came forward and they bowed and prostrated, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained seated and also those who were with him. The salutation then followed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ uttered the salutation and all of them uttered it together. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two rak'ahs and each of the two sections prayed one rak'ah with him (and the other by themselves). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1240)

[Machine] Regarding the shortening of prayers during fear, where was it revealed and where is it? He (the Prophet) said, "We went out to meet a caravan of Quraysh that had come from Syria. When we reached a palm grove, a man approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his sword sheathed and asked, 'Are you Muhammad?' He replied, 'Yes.' The man said, 'Do you not fear me?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, 'No.' The man said, 'Who can protect you from me?' He replied, 'Allah protects me from you.' The man then unsheathed his sword and threatened him. The people threatened him in return, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the people to leave and to take up their arms. Then he called for the prayer, and a group prayed behind him while another group guarded those who faced the enemy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed two units of prayer with the group that was with him, and the other group stood in lines behind those who had prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and guarded them while facing the enemy. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed two more units of prayer with them, making four units for himself and two for his companions."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fought a battle against a group of people near a date palm tree. Some Muslims saw a young man from among them and he was called Awf bin Harith or Gawrath bin Harith. He came and stood over the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a sword. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Who can stop you from me?" He replied, "Allah." Thereupon, the sword slipped from his hand. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the sword and asked him, "Who can stop you from me?" He replied, "Be better than me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Do you bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah?" He replied, "No, but I make a condition with you that I will not fight against you nor will I be with those who fight against you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ let him go and he returned to his companions saying, "I came to you from the best of people." When it was noon or afternoon, Abu 'Uwanah doubted and the Prophet ﷺ ordered the prayer of fear. So the people were divided into two groups: one group facing the enemy and another group praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The group with him prayed two units of prayer and then left, occupying the positions of the first group. Then the first group came and they prayed two units of prayer with the Prophet ﷺ . Thus, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed four units of prayer, while the people performed two units of prayer.
