Sahl b. Abu Hathma reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led his Companions in prayer in danger. He made them stand in two rows behind him. He led them who were close to him in one rak'ah. He then stood up and kept standing till those who were behind them observed one rak'ah. Then they (those standing in the second row) came in front and those who were in front went into the rear. He then led them In one rak'ah. He then sat down, till those who were behind him observed one rak'ah and then pronounced salutation.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ فِي الْخَوْفِ فَصَفَّهُمْ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ قَامَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِمًا حَتَّى صَلَّى الَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمُوا وَتَأَخَّرَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قُدَّامَهُمْ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ قَعَدَ حَتَّى صَلَّى الَّذِينَ تَخَلَّفُوا رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

The Prophet ﷺ prayed in time of danger and divided them (the people) behind him in two rows. He then led those who were near him in one rak'ah. Then he stood and remained standing till those who were in second row offered one rak'ah. Thereafter they came forward and those who were in front of them (in the first row) stepped backward. The Prophet ﷺ led them in one rak'ah of prayer. He sat down till those who were in the second row completed on rak'ah. He then uttered the salutation.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ فِي خَوْفٍ فَجَعَلَهُمْ خَلْفَهُ صَفَّيْنِ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ قَامَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِمًا حَتَّى صَلَّى الَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمُوا وَتَأَخَّرَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قُدَّامَهُمْ فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ قَعَدَ حَتَّى صَلَّى الَّذِينَ تَخَلَّفُوا رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in offering the fear prayer. Some formed a row behind him and some formed a row facing the enemy. He led them in praying one rak'ah, then they moved away and the others came, and he led them in praying one rak'ah, then they got up and each (group) made up the other rak'ah.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمْ صَلاَةَ الْخَوْفِ فَصَفَّ صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُصَافُّو الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلاَءِ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ قَامُوا فَقَضَوْا رَكْعَةً رَكْعَةً

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in offering the fear prayer. One row stood in front of him and another row stood behind him. He led those who were behind in prayer, bowing once and prostrating twice, then they moved forward until they took the place of their companions, and the others came and took their place, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led them in prayer, bowing once and prostrating twice, then he said the taslim, so the Prophet ﷺ had prayed two rak'ahs and they had prayed one.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمْ صَلاَةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَامَ صَفٌّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ صَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلاَءِ حَتَّى قَامُوا فِي مَقَامِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ هَؤُلاَءِ وَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَكَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَانِ وَلَهُمْ رَكْعَةٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allahﷺ performed the prayer of fear, with those behind him forming a row, and another row equivalent to the enemy. He prayed with them one unit of prayer, then these (those who were behind him) went to the position of these (those equivalent to the enemy), and these (those equivalent to the enemy) came (forward), and he prayed with them one unit of prayer, then he said the tasleem. So it was two units for the Prophetﷺ and one unit for each group.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمْ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَامَ صَفٌّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِي خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلَاءِ حَتَّى قَامُوا فِي مَقَامِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ حَتَّى قَامُوا مَقَامَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَكَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺرَكْعَتَانِ وَلَهُمْ رَكْعَةً

[AI] On the authority of Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah, it was reported that Abdurrahman raised his hands to the Prophet ﷺ . And regarding Yahya, he mentioned from Sahl that he said, the Imam stands and there is a description behind him and a description in front of him. He prays the prayer with those behind him, a unit of prayer, two prostrations, then he stands until they pray another unit of prayer, then they move forward to the place of their companions. Then those (companions) come and stand in the place of those (who were behind the Imam) and he prays a unit of prayer with them, two prostrations, then he sits until they complete another unit of prayer, then he offers them the greeting (of peace).

عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَمَّا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَرَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَأَمَّا يَحْيَى فَذَكَرَ عَنْ سَهْلٍ قَالَ يَقُومُ الْإِمَامُ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ وَصَفٌّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَيُصَلِّي بِالَّذِي خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ قَائِمًا حَتَّى يُصَلُّوا رَكْعَةً أُخْرَى ثُمَّ يَتَقَدَّمُونَ إِلَى مَكَانِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ أُولَئِكَ فَيَقُومُونَ مَقَامَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَيُصَلِّي بِهِمْرَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ يَقْعُدُ حَتَّى يَقْضُوا رَكْعَةً أُخْرَى ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِمْ

"We were with Sa'eed bin Al-'Asi in Tabaristan, and Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman was with us. He said: 'Which of you offered the fear prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' Hudhaifah said: 'I did.' So Hudhaifah stood and the people formed two rows behind him, one row behind him and one row facing the enemy. He led those who were behind him in praying one rak'ah, then they went and took the place of the others, and the others came and he led them in praying one rak'ah, and they did not make it up." كُنَّا مَعَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ بِطَبَرِسْتَانَ فَقَالَ «أَيُّكُمْ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ؟» فَقَامَ حُذَيْفَةُ «فَصَفَّ النَّاسَ خَلْفَهُ صَفًّا وَصَفًّا مُوَازِيَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ هَؤُلَاءِ مَكَانَ هَؤُلَاءِ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً وَلَمْ يَقْضُوا»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed a prayer and it was followed by another prayer against the enemy. Then he prayed two units of prayer with them and they went to join their brothers. Others came and he prayed two units of prayer with them and then he concluded with the prayer's ending. So, the Prophet ﷺ performed two units of prayer and each group performed one unit of prayer."

«صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ وَصَفٌّ بِإِزَاءِ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبُوا إِلَى مَصَافِّ إِخْوَانِهِمْ وَجَاءَ الْآخَرُونَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَكَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَانِ وَلِكُلِّ طَائِفَةٍ رَكْعَةٌ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah stood up and prayed with them. Then a row stood behind him and a row opposing the enemy, and he prayed with them one rak'ah. Then those (in the back row) went to the place of those (in the front row), and those (in the front row) came forward and he prayed with them one rak'ah, then he turned away."

«قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ فَقَامَ صَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ وَصَفٌّ مُوَازٍ الْعَدُوَّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَفِّ هَؤُلَاءِ وَجَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , performed the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf), so he arranged them in rows, facing the enemy, row after row. He prayed one rak'ah with them, then the row that followed him stayed behind, and they stood in the position of those who were facing the enemy. Those people advanced and prayed behind him one rak'ah, then he said the salutation to them. Then those who were behind him stood up and prayed one rak'ah, then those people advanced and stood in the position of those people, and they prayed one rak'ah."

«صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَصَفَّ خَلْفَهُ صَفًّا وَصَفًّا مُقَابِلَ الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ تَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مُقَابِلَ الْعَدُوِّ وَتَقَدَّمَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلُّوا خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَامَ الَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ فَصَلُّوا رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ أُولَئِكَ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلُّوا رَكْعَةً»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed at Dhi Qarad and the people formed two rows behind him, one row behind him and one row facing the enemy. He led those who were behind him in praying one rak'ah, then they went and took the place of the others, and the others came and he led them in praying one rak'ah, and they did not make it up. «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِهِمْ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَقَامَ صَفٌّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَصَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ صَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ خَلْفَهُ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ هَؤُلَاءِ حَتَّى قَامُوا فِي مَقَامِ أَصْحَابِهِمْ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَقَامُوا مَقَامَ هَؤُلَاءِ صَلَّى لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَكْعَةً وَسَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَكَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَانِ وَلَهُمْ رَكْعَةٌ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the prayer of fear with a group carrying monkeys. He lined them up in rows, with a row parallel to the enemy. He prayed a Rak'ah with them, then these people went to the forefront, and those people came and prayed a Rak'ah with the Prophet ﷺ , then they greeted him. Sufyan said: The Prophet ﷺ prayed two Rak'ahs and each group prayed one Rak'ah.

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةُ الْخَوْفِ بِذِي قَرَدٍ فَصَفَّ خَلْفَهُ صَفٌّ وَصَفٌّ مُوَازِي الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ أُولَئِكَ وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَصَلُّوا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ فَكَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَلِكُلِّ طَائِفَةٍ رَكْعَةٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the prayer of fear, so he arranged the rows behind him and the rows parallel to the enemy. He prayed with them one unit of prayer, then these people went to the place of those people, and those people came to the place of these people, so he prayed with them one unit of prayer, then he gave the salaam.

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فَصَفَّ صَفًّا خَلْفَهُ وَصَفًّا مُوَازِي الْعَدُوِّ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ وَجَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

"عَنْ زَيْد بن ثَابِت أَنَّهُ سُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْخَوْفِ فَقَالَ: قامَ رَسولُ الله ﷺ ، فَصَلَّى بِهِم، فَقَامَ صَفٌ خَلْفَهُ، وَصَفٌّ مُوَازِى الْعَدُوِّ، فَصَلَّى بِهِم رَكْعَة، ثمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلَاءِ إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَجَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهم رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ".

"عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِى حَثْمَةَ قَالَ: يَقُومُ الإِمَامُ فِى صَلاَةِ الْخَوْفِ، وَيَقَومُ صَفٌّ خَلْفَهُ، وَصَفٌّ مُوَازِى الْعَدُوِّ، فَيُصَلِّى بِهَؤُلاَءِ رَكْعَةً، فَإِذَا صَلَّى بهِمْ رَكْعَةً قَامُوا مَكَانَهُمْ وَالإِمَامُ قَائِمٌ، فَقَضَوْا رَكعَةً، ثُمَّ ذَهَبُوا إِلَى مَصَافِّ أُولَئِكَ، وَجَاءَ أُوَلَئِكَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكعَةً، ثُمَّ قَامُوا مَكَانَهُمْ فَقَضَوْا رَكْعَةً".

"عَنِ ابْن مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: كُنَّا معَ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَصَفَّ صَفّا خَلْفَهُ، وَصَفّا مُوَازىَ الْعَدُوِّ، وَهُمْ في صَلَاةٍ كُلُّهُمْ، فَكَبَّرَ وَكَبَّرُوا جَميعًا، فَصَلَّى بالصَّفِّ الَّذى

يَلِيهِ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤَلَاءِ، وَجَاءَ هَؤُلَاءِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكعَةً، ثُمَّ قَامَ هو وَالَّذِى صَلَّى بِهِمْ الرَّكْعَةَ الثَّانيَةَ فَصَفُّوا مَكَانَهُمْ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ هَؤُلَاء إِلَى مَصَافِّ هَؤُلَاءِ، وَجَاءَ أُولَئِكَ فَقَضَوْا رَكْعَةً".
