9. Book of Ṣalāh (27/30)
[Machine] She said, "The first thing that was obligated regarding prayer, whether in settled or traveling situations, is two units of prayer. Then the prayer was increased in settled situations, while it was simplified in traveling situations."
[Machine] "The prayers for traveling and residing were prescribed as two units. However, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ established the prayer, he prayed four units. The Fajr prayer was left behind due to the lengthy recitation, and the Maghrib prayer was left behind because it is the odd prayer of the day."
I said to 'Umar bin al Khattab ؓ , ʿAnd when you (Muslims) travel in the land, there is no sin on you if you shorten AsSalah (the prayer) if you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you)ʿ (al Nisa' 4:101]. But now the people are safe. He said: I wondered the same thing as you are wondering, and I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. He said: “It is a charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 174)
I said to ʿUmar bin al-Khattab. People are shortening the prayer today, and Allah says: “If you fear that the disbelievers may put you in trial (attack you)ʿ [an-Nisaʿ 4:101). But that time [i.e., time of fear] has gone, He said: I wondered the same thing as you are wondering, and I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that. He said: ʿIt is a charity that Allah has bestowed upon you, so accept His charity.” ʿAbdur-Razzaq told us, Ibn Juraij told us I heard ʿAbdur-Rahman bin ‘Abdullah bin Abi ‘Ammar narrate... and he mentioned [the same report]. (Using translation from Aḥmad 244)
[Machine] I said to Umar, "The shortcoming of people is their prayers, and indeed Allah, the Most High, has said, 'If you fear that those who disbelieve may tempt you.'" So that is gone. Umar said, "I was amazed by it until I asked the Messenger of Allah, may peace be upon him, and he said, 'It is a charity through which Allah gives you His help, so accept His charity.'"
[Machine] "On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, 'Indeed, Allah loves for His concessions to be granted just as He dislikes disobedience to Him.'"
[Machine] "I prayed Dhuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Medina, four Rak'ahs, and I prayed Asr prayer with him in Dhul-Hulayfah, two Rak'ahs, and he was traveling."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr prayer (noon prayer) with four units of prayer in Madinah, and he prayed the Asr prayer (afternoon prayer) with two units of prayer in Dhu al-Hulayfah. Anas reported that he heard the people shouting for the Hajj and Umrah during these prayers.
I asked Anas b. Malik about the shortening of the prayer (while travelling). He said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on a journey of three miles or three farsakh (the narrator Shu'bah doubted), he used to pray two rak'ahs. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1201)
[Machine] I prayed the Dhuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Medina, four units of prayer. Then, he went out on one of his journeys and prayed two units of prayer for us by the tree.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said four rak'ahs in the noon prayer while at Medina, but he offered two rak'ahs in the afternoon prayer at Dhu'l-Hulaifa. (Using translation from Muslim 690a)
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that the Prophet ﷺ prayed Zuhr in Al-Madinah, four Rak'ahs, and he prayed 'Asr in Dhul-Hulaifah, two Rak'ahs. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 477)
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ stayed in Tabuk for twenty days, shortening the prayers."
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ arrived in Makkah and stayed there for seventeen nights, shortening the prayers." Ibn Abbas said, "Whoever stays for seventeen nights should shorten the prayers, and whoever stays for more should complete them."
Anas bin Malik said: " We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Al-Madinah to Makkah and he used to lead us in praying two rak'ahs until we came back." I (Yahya) said: "Did he stay in Makkah?" He (Anas) said: "Yes, we stayed there for ten days." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1452)
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ stayed in Tabuk for twenty days, shortening the prayers."
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ did not pray during travel before it, nor after it, whether before obligatory prayers or after them."
"I went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from Al-Madinah to Mekkah, and he continued to shorten his prayers, and he stayed there for ten days." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1438)
"I missed the prayer in congregation when I was in Al-Batha; how do you think I should pray?" He said: "Two rak'ahs, the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1444)
[Machine] "I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ in Mecca, performing two units of prayer during the Farewell Pilgrimage, more than what people usually did, and he felt secure."
[Machine] "I prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or he led us in prayer in Mina while we were in the minimum state of performing the two units of prayer."
Salim b. 'Abdullah (b. 'Umar) reported on the authority of his father that Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed the prayer of a traveller, i. e. two rak'ahs in Mina, and other places; so did Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and 'Uthman too observed two rak'ahs at the beginning of his caliphate, but he then completed four. (Using translation from Muslim 694a)
9.31 [Machine] Prostration of Recitation
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘When a son of Adam recites a Sajdah* and prostrates, Satan withdraws weeping, saying: ‘Woe is me! The son of Adam was commanded to prostrate and he prostrated, and Paradise will be his; I was commanded to prostrate and I refused, so I am doomed to Hell.’” * An Ayah indicating prostration. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1052)
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic sentence is: "The Messenger of Allahﷺ used to recite the Quran, then he would reach the prostration and prostrate, and we would prostrate with him following his prostration."
ذِكْرُ مَا يُسْتَحَبُّ لِلْمَرْءِ السُّجُودُ إِذَا قَرَأَ: {إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ}
Abu Hurairah (led them in prayer and) recited: "When the heaven is split asunder." and prostrated during it. When he had finished praying, he told them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had prostrated during it. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 961)
"I recited to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (Surat) An-Najm and he did not prostrate in it." (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1404)
[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrated to the star, and the Muslims, polytheists, jinn, and humans also prostrated with him."
[Machine] Narrated Anas bin Malik: "The Prophet ﷺ recited Surat An-Najm (The Star) and then prostrated, and so did all the people except an old man who took a handful of dust and touched his forehead with it saying, 'This is sufficient for me.'"
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited surah Sad on the pulpit. When he reached the place of prostration (in the surah), he descended and prostrated himself and the people prostrated with him. When the next day came, he recited it. When he reached the place of prostration (in the surah), the people became ready for prostration. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: This is the repentance of a Prophet ; but I saw you being ready for prostration. So he descended and prostrated himself and the people prostrated along with him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1410)
[Machine] I asked Ibn Abbas about the prostration in Surah Sajdah, from where did you take it? He recited to me from the verse {And among his descendants were David and Solomon and Job} until he reached the verse {These are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example}.
قُلْتُ لِابْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ سَجْدَةُ ص مِنْ أَيْنَ أَخَذْتَهَا؟ قَالَ فَتَلَا عَلَيَّ {وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدُ وَسُلَيْمَانُ وَأَيُّوبُ} حَتَّى بَلَغَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَى اللَّهُ فَبِهُدَاهُمِ اقْتَدِهْ}
"We prostrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during: When the heaven is split asunder and Read! In the Name of your Lord." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 963)
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw in my dream last night, as the sleeping person sees, that I was praying behind a tree. Then I saw as if I recited a prostration, and I saw the tree as if it was prostrating for my prostration. I heard it while it was in prostration saying, 'O Allah, write for me with it (i.e., this prostration) a reward with You, and make it a treasure for me with You, and remove a sin from me with it, and accept it from me as You accepted it from Your servant Dawood.'" Ibn Abbas said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite the prostration, and I heard him while he was in prostration saying the same as what the man said regarding the statement of the tree."
I recited An-Najm before the Prophet, yet he did not perform a prostration. (Using translation from Bukhārī 1073)
9.32 [Machine] Friday Prayer
[Machine] This is a Hadith from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . It says: "The sun does not rise or set on a day better than Friday. Every creature is in a state of panic on the day of Friday except for these two: jinn and humans."
Five deeds done on a Friday that guarantee Jannah
that He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "There are five actions that if done in a day, Allah will write the person from the people of Paradise: (1) visiting a sick person, (2) attending a funeral, (3) fasting for a day, (3) going to Jumuah prayer, and (5) freeing a slave."
[Machine] Abū al-Qāsim ﷺ said, "On a Friday, there is an hour in which no Muslim is standing and praying, asking Allah for something good, except that Allah will grant it to him."
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: "On every door of the mosque, there are two angels who take turns in writing. The first angel records the first (person) to enter, whether it be a man who came with a camel, a cow, a sheep, a bird, or an egg. When the imam sits down (to deliver the sermon), the records are folded up."
Whoever takes bath due to sexual defilement on Friday and goes out (for Friday prayer), is treated like one who offers a camel as sacrifice; he who goes out in the second instance as one who offers a cow; he who goes out in the third instance is treated as one who offers horned cow ; he who goes out in the fourth instance is treated as one who offers hen ; he who goes out in the fifth instance is treated as one who offers an egg. When the Imam comes out (for sermon), the angels too attend to listen to the sermon. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 351)
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "Whoever performs Ghusl on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday) and purifies himself as much as he is able to from impurity, then applies perfume or the fragrance of his house, then goes to the Jumu'ah prayer without causing any separation between two people, and then prays what is apparent to him, then when the Imam comes out, he remains silent, his sins between that Jumu'ah and the next Jumu'ah will be forgiven."
“There is nothing wrong with any one of you, if he can afford it, buying two garments for Friday, other than his daily work clothes.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1096)
[Machine] Narrated Abu Hurairah and Abu Said Al-Khudri: We heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday), purifies himself as much as he can, uses perfumes if available, wears the best of his clothes, then goes to the mosque and offers whatever prayer is prescribed and remains silent when the Imam delivers the Khutbah (sermon), his sins between that Friday and the next will be forgiven."
If anyone performs ablution, doing it well, then come to the Friday prayer, listens and keeps silence, his sins between that time and the next Friday will be forgiven, with three days extra; but he who touches pebbles has caused an interruption. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1050)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever takes a bath on the day of Friday, purifies himself thoroughly, wears his best clothes, and applies some perfume from his house or musk, then he will be forgiven for what is between that day and the next Friday, and an extra three days."
[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever washes on the day of Friday, then takes a bath, and hastens and comes early, listens attentively and remains silent, and does not harm, Allah will write for him a reward of fasting and praying for every step he takes as if it were a year.'"
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take a bath on the day of Friday and wash your heads, unless you are in a state of impurity, and touch some fragrance."
[Machine] "The prayer of travel, the prayer of breaking the fast, the prayer of sacrifice, and the Friday prayer consist of two complete units of prayer, not shortened, as mentioned by your Prophet ﷺ."
The mention of the differences of those who preceded us in Friday when it was imposed upon them.
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'We are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection, but they were given the Book before us and we were given it after them. They differed concerning this day which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, had prescribed for them and Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, guided us to"--meaning Friday--"so the people follow us, the Jews the next day and the Christians the day after that.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1367)

[Machine] He said, "I went out to At-Tur and met Ka'b Al-Ahbar, so I sat with him and he told me about the Torah. I also told him about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . In what he narrated, I said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it, Adam was created, on it he entered Paradise, on it he was expelled, on it he died, on it the Trumpet will be blown, and on it all creatures will swoon. Every beast is on the lookout from the time the sun rises until it has risen, fearing the coming of the Hour, except the Jinn and humans. There is an hour on Friday that no Muslim slave stands when praying and asks Allah for anything but He will give it to him.'" Ka'b said, "That happens every year on a day." I said, "No, but every Friday." Ka`b said, "So I read the Torah and he (i.e., the Prophet) said, 'The Messenger of Allah has spoken the truth.'"

He (Kab) said, then Abu Hurairah said, "Inform me of it and do not keep me in suspense." Abdullah ibn Salam said, "It is the last hour on Friday." Abu Hurairah said, "But how can it be the last hour on Friday when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No Muslim servant will come across it while he is praying?'" And that is an hour in which no prayer is offered." Abdullah ibn Salam said, "Did not the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever sits waiting for the prayer, he is in prayer until he prays it?'" Abu Hurairah said, "Yes, he did." Abdullah ibn Salam said, "That is what it is."
