I brought water to ʿUthman bin ʿAffan to perform the ablution while he was sitting on his seat. He performed the ablution in a perfect way and said, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ performing the ablution in this place and he performed it in a perfect way and said, "Whoever performs the ablution as I have done this time and then proceeds to the mosque and offers a two-rakʿat prayer and then sits there (waiting for the compulsory congregational prayers), then all his past sins will be forgiven." The Prophet ﷺ further added, "Do not be conceited (thinking that your sins will be forgiven because of your prayer).
One day Uthman b. Affan performed the ablution well, and then said: I saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform ablution, the best ablution, and then observed: He who performed ablution like this and then went towards the mosque and nothing (but the love of) prayer urged him (to do so), all his previous (minor) sins would be expiated.
I came to ‘Uthman bin ʿAffan ؓ when he was sitting in al-Maqaʿid. He did wudoo and did it well, then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was in this place; he did wudoo’ and did it well, then he said: “Whoever does wudoo’ as I have done, then goes to the mosque and prays two rakats, his previous sins will be forgiven.” And he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿDo not become complacent.”
Uthman was sitting in alMaqaʿid. He called for water and did wudoo’, then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing wudooʿ in this place where I am sitting then he said: “whoever does wudoo’ as I have done, then gets up and prays two rakʿahs, his previous sins will be forgiven.” And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿDo not become complacent.ʿ

I saw ‘ Uthman’ b. ‘Affan while he performed ablution. He poured water over his hands three times and then washed them. He then rinsed his mouth and then cleansed his nose with water (three times). He then washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then washed his left arm in a similar manner; then wiped his head; then washed his right foot three times, then washed his left foot in a similar manner, and then said : I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performing ablution like this ablution of mine. Then he (the Prophet) said: He who performs ablution like this ablution of mine and then offered two rakhahs of prayer without allowing his thoughts to be distracted, Allah will pardon all his past sins.
