6. Two ʿĪd (Eid) Ṣalāhs (2/4)
[Machine] "To recite seven takbirs in the first rakah before the recitation, and to recite five takbirs in the second rakah before the recitation."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ would make takbeer during the two Eids. He would make takbeer seven times during the first Eid (Eid al-Fitr) and five times during the second Eid (Eid al-Adha). He would make takbeer before the prayer and continue walking to the prayer area, and then walk back.
[Machine] I witnessed Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr with Abu Hurayrah. He performed the takbeer (saying "Allahu Akbar") seven times before the first rakah, and five times before the second rakah, before reciting the Quran. This is according to the narration of Malik and Shu'ayb, with some additional details. Marwan appointed him as its governor in Madinah.
[Machine] So he counted as if he were counting the Takbeer of standing up.
[Machine] "He made takbeer seven times in the first rak'ah of the Eid prayer, then recited and made takbeer five times in the second rak'ah."
[Machine] I witnessed Umar ibn Abdul Aziz celebrate the Eid by saying Takbeer seven times before the prayer in the first prayer and five times before the prayer in the second prayer.
6.13 [Machine] Mention the news that was narrated in Takbeer four times.
[Machine] Saeed bin Al-Aas asked Abu Musa and Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say the takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar) during Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr. Abu Musa said he used to say the takbeer four times during funeral prayers. Hudhaifa confirmed this and said that he also used to say the takbeer four times in Basra, where he was at the time. Abu Aisha also confirmed this, saying that he was present when Saeed bin Al-Aas narrated this hadith. This hadith has been narrated in two different contexts: one is about its elevation and the other is in response to Abu Musa. The well-known version of this story is that they referred their matter to Ibn Masood, who issued a fatwa accordingly, but it is not attributed directly to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .
[Machine] Abdullah gets up and says four takbirs then recites, then bows in the fifth, then gets up and recites then says four takbirs and bows in the fourth.
[Machine] Takbeer on both Eids is five in the first and four in the second, and this is the opinion of Abdullah. The authenticated hadith and the practice of the Muslims support following it, and success is from Allah.
6.14 [Machine] He Recites the Opening Supplication After Saying the Opening Takbeer. Then, He Stands Between Each Two Takbeers and Glorifies Allah, Extols Him, and Sends Prayers Upon the Prophet ﷺ
[Machine] Abdullah begins by saying "Allahu Akbar " (God is the greatest) to start the prayer, then praises his Lord and prays upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . He continues to supplicate and say "Allahu Akbar" and do the same. Then, he recites and performs the bowing and standing, recites and praises his Lord, and prays upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . He continues to supplicate and do the same. This is the statement of Abdullah bin Mas'ood and it is attributed to him regarding the pause between every two takbeerat (saying Allahu Akbar) for remembrance of Allah when no different opinion was reported from him. We differ from him in the number of takbeerat and placing them before recitation in both rak'ahs (units of prayer), as universally practiced in Makkah and Madinah, and as done by the Muslims until our present day. And success is from Allah.
[Machine] To say "Allahu Akbar" seven times before the prayer on both of the Eid days, remembering Allah between each two takbirs.
6.15 [Machine] Raising the hands in the Takbeer of Eid.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to raise his hands opposite his shoulders when he began prayer, then he uttered takbir (Allah is most great) in the same condition, and then he bowed. And when he raised his back (head) after bowing he raised them opposite his shoulders, and said: “Allah listens to him who praises Him.” But he did not raise his hand when he prostrated himself; he rather raised them when he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great) before bowing until his prayer is finished. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 722)
[Machine] He said that he raises his hands with every takbeer, then he pauses for a moment, then he praises Allah and sends blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad, then he says Allahu Akbar, meaning during the Eid. Abu Bakr ibn Ibrahim al-Asbahani informed us, Abu Nasr al-Iraqi narrated to us, Sufyan al-Jawhari narrated to us, Ali ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Abdullah al-Adani narrated from Sufyan, from Ibn Juraij about that.
6.16 [Machine] Reading on both Eids.
[Machine] "Omar ibn Al-Khattab asked Abu Waqid Al-Laithi what was recited by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr? He replied that he used to recite in them with Qaf and Surah Al-Quran Al-Majeed. And the hour drew near and the moon split."
[Machine] Umar ibn Al-Khattab asked me about what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited on the day of Eid. So, I said, "The Hour has drawn near and the majestic Quran is the speech of Abu Salih."
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite on the two Eids and on the day of Friday, "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" and "Has there come to you the narration of the Overwhelming". And sometimes, they would coincide on the same day, so he would recite with them the wording of the narration of Qutaybah, and At-Tayalisi did not mention his statement, "and sometimes they would coincide until the end."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite on both of the Eids "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" and "Has the news of the overwhelming event come to you?" The sheikh said, "But this is not mentioned in the hadith of Abu Waqid and there is disagreement regarding the hadith. However, this narrates a recitation during one Eid and this narrates a recitation during another Eid, and there were indeed different Eids during the time of the Prophet ﷺ . So it is truthful that he recited what was mentioned on one Eid and it is also truthful that he recited what was mentioned on another Eid." This was stated by Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) in the narration of Harmala.
6.17 [Machine] Reciting aloud on both Eids, as mentioned in the narration of the one who narrated the recitation of the two Surahs.
[Machine] He listens to the one who follows him on both of the Eids.
[Machine] The loud recitation during the prayers of both Eid days is from the Sunnah, and going out to the graveyard on both Eid days is also from the Sunnah.
6.18 [Machine] Eid prayer consists of two units
[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ went out on the day of Eid and performed two units of prayer that he did not pray before or after. Then he came to the women with Bilal, and he commanded them to give charity. So the women began to throw their jewelry and ornaments, their word being equal."
6.19 [Machine] He starts with prayer before the sermon.
I observed prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the 'Id day. He commenced with prayer before the sermon without Adhan and Iqama. He then stood up leaning on Bilal, and he commanded (them) to be on guard (against evil for the sake of) Allah, and he exhorted (them) on obedience to Him, and he preached to the people and admonished them. He then walked on till he came to the women and preached to them and admonished them, and asked them to give alms, for most of them are the fuel for Hell. A woman having a dark spot on the cheek stood up and said: Why is it so, Messenger of Allah? He said: For you grumble often and show ingratitude to your spouse. And then they began to give alms out of their ornaments such as their earrings and rings which they threw on to the cloth of Bilal. (Using translation from Muslim 885b)
[Machine] "The Eid with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman, and all of them used to pray it before the sermon, and then he would give the sermon. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ descended as if I were looking at him when he sits among the men, holding their hands. Then he approached the women with Bilal. He said, 'O Prophet, when the believing women come to give you their pledge [bay'ah],'" [Al-Mumtahanah 12] the verse. Then, when he finished, he said, 'Do you all agree with that?' One woman, who was the only one to respond, said, 'Yes, O Prophet of Allah.'"
[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas saying, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray before the sermon on the day of Eid. Then he would deliver the sermon and notice that the women had not heard him. So he would approach them, remind and advise them, and command them to give charity. Bilal was with him, saying with his garment, 'Thus I have made the woman throw the gravel and the thing.'"
[Machine] "Allah, ﷺ , and Abu Bakr and Umar used to perform the prayers of the two Eids before the sermon."
Marwan brought out the pulpit on 'Id. He began preaching before the prayer. A man stood and said: You opposed the sunnah, O Marwan. You brought out the pulpit on the 'Id, it was not brought out before: and you began preaching before the prayer. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: Wh is this (man) ? They (people) said: So-and so son of so-and-so. He has performed his duty. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: He who observes and evil deed should change it with his hand if he can do so; if he cannot do, (he should change it) then with his tongue; if he cannot do then (he should change it) with his heart, and that is the weakest degree of the faith. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1140)

Give alms, give alms, give alms, and the majority that gave alms was of women. He then returned and this (practice) remained (in vogue) till Marwan b. al- Hakam (came into power). I went out hand in hand with Marwan till we came to the place of worship and there Kathir b. Salt had built a pulpit of clay and brick. Marwan began to tug me with his hand as though he were pulling me towards the pulpit, while I was pulling him towards the prayer. When I saw him doing that I said: What has happened to the practice of beginning with prayer? He said: No, Abu Sa'id, what you are familiar with has been abandoned. I thereupon said (three times and went back): By no means, by Him in Whose hand my life is, you are not doing anything better than what I am familiar with. (Using translation from Muslim 889)

6.20 [Machine] Preaching in front of people, and the people are sitting in their rows. This has been mentioned in the narration of Zaid ibn Aslam, from 'Iyad, from Abu Sa'id.
[Machine] He heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go out on the two Eids (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) and offer two rak'ahs (units of prayer), then he would give the salaam (concluding prayer), and stand up while facing the people. He would address them and command them to give charity. When he intended to strike a blow against the people, he would remember it, and if not, he would leave."

6.21 [Machine] Who is allowed to deliver a sermon from a pulpit or on a saddle.
I participated in the Fitr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthman, and all of them observed this prayer before the Khutba, and then he (the Holy Prophet) delivered the sermon. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended (from the pulpit) and I (perceive) as if I am seeing him as he is commanding people with his hand to sit down. He then made his way through their (assembly) till he came to the women. Bilal was with him. He then recited (this verse): O Prophet, when believing women come to thee giving thee a pledge that they will not associate aught with Allah" (lx. 12) till he finished (his address to) them and then said: Do you conform to it (what has been described in the verse)? Only one woman among them replied: Yes, Apostle of Allah, but none else replied. He (the narrator) said: It could not be ascertained who actually she was. He (the Holy Prophet) exhorted them to give alms. Bilal stretched his cloth and then said: Come forward with alms. Let my father and mother be taken as ransom for you. And they began to throw rings and ringlets in the cloth of Bilal. (Using translation from Muslim 884a)

[Machine] I heard him say that the Prophet ﷺ stood on the day of Eid and prayed. He started praying before the sermon and then delivered the sermon to the people. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he descended and went to the women. He reminded them while leaning on Bilal's hand, and Bilal spread his garment and the women would throw their charity into it, totaling 6207. Abu Salih ibn Abi Tahir informed us that my grandfather Yahya ibn Mansur narrated to us, that Ahmad ibn Salamah narrated to us, that Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, that Abdul Razzaq mentioned it with a similar chain of narration. I asked Ata'ah, "Is the zakat of Eid day obligatory?" He said, "No, but it is a charity that they give at that time, the woman throws it and they throw it." I asked Ata'ah, "Do you think it is the right of the Imam now to come to the women when he is free and remind them?" He said, "By my life! Indeed, that is their right, and what is there for them not to do it?"

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , delivered a sermon while riding his mount on the Day of Sacrifice. Sometimes, he would hold its reins, and sometimes, he would hold its halter. He asked, "What day is this?" This narration was mentioned in Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, reported by Ibn 'Awn and others from Ibn Sirin.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a sermon on the day of Eid while riding on a brown camel, which was being held by an Abyssinian man. It has been narrated that Abu Jamilah saw Uthman ibn Affan, Ali, and Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, giving sermons on the day of Eid while riding their own mounts. Also, it has been narrated from Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari that he gave a sermon on the day of Eid while riding his own mount.
[Machine] I saw Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah on the day of Eid Al-Adha or Eid Al-Fitr praying two units of prayer with the people, then he delivered a sermon while leaning on a camel. He neither performed the call to prayer (adhan) nor stood up (iqama).
6.22 [Machine] Peace be upon the Imam when he appears on the pulpit
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to ascend the pulpit and be greeted by Ibn Lahia.
6.23 [Machine] The Imam's seating when ascending the pulpit, his standing and sermon are two sermons, with a light session between them, in comparison to the Friday sermons, and the confirmed news in them has passed.
[Machine] It was narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to sit on the pulpit on Fridays, the day of Eid al-Fitr, and the day of Eid al-Adha. When the Mu'adhdhin finished the call to prayer on Fridays, he would stand up and give a sermon, then he would sit and then stand to give another sermon. Then, he would come down and pray. He would also combine the Friday prayer with the prayer of Eid if the two occasions fell on the same day in the month of Dhul-Hijjah. Then he would return to the topic of the Friday sermon.
[Machine] That the imam delivers two sermons on the two Eids, with a break between them while he sits.
6.24 [Machine] Takbeer in the sermon on the two Eids
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to start with prayer before the sermon, and he liked to make Takbir (saying "Allahu Akbar") between the segments of the sermon.
[Machine] Abdullah used to say the Takbeer nine times in every Eid, starting with it and ending with it.
[Machine] "He said that it is from the Sunnah for the Imam to make nine takbeers on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adha when he sits on the minbar before the sermon, and seven takbeers when he stands up and then makes a supplication and recites takbeer after starting it. Others narrated it from Ibrahim from Ubaidullah, nine takbeers in the first and seven takbeers in the second sermon."
[Machine] The Sunnah in the Takbir of Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr on the pulpit before the sermon is that the Imam starts before the sermon while standing on the pulpit with nine consecutive takbirs, with no speech in between them. Then, he delivers the sermon, sits for a while, and then stands up for the second sermon, beginning it with seven consecutive takbirs, with no speech in between them. Then, he delivers the sermon.
[Machine] Narrated Abu Huraira: Regarding the Takbir of the Imam during the first sermon on the days of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha, it consists of fifty-three takbirs distributed throughout the various sections of the sermon between the two khutbahs.
6.25 [Machine] The sermon on the cane
[Machine] We were sitting in the mosque on the day of Eid, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and greeted the people. Then he said, "Indeed, the first act of worship on this day of yours is the prayer." He then came forward and performed two Rak'ahs of prayer, then he greeted and faced the people with his face and gave a sermon, leaning on a bow or staff. He thanked Allah and praised Him.
6.26 [Machine] The command of the Imam to people in his sermon to obey Allah, urge them to give charity, and seek closeness to Allah, and to abstain from disobedience to Him
[Machine] He witnessed the prayer with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the day of Eid, so he began praying before the sermon without adhan or iqamah. Then he stood leaning on Bilal and addressed the people, praised and thanked Allah, advised and reminded them, and then continued standing leaning on Bilal and addressed the women, advised and reminded them, and said: "Give in charity, for indeed most of you are fuel for Hellfire." So a woman from the lower class of women stood up, with wide cheeks, and said, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because you complain excessively and are ungrateful to your husbands." So they started giving in charity from their rings, necklaces, and earrings, offering them to Bilal to give in charity.
6.27 [Machine] Listening to the sermon on both Eids - News of listening to the sermon on Fridays has passed, and listening to the sermon on both Eids is based on analogy.
[Machine] Speaking is prohibited in four occasions: during the two Eids (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha), during the prayer for rain (istisqa), and on Fridays. And this is established.
[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ prayed the holiday prayer with them, then he delivered a sermon and said: "Whoever wishes to stay should stay, and whoever wishes to leave should leave." This is the wording of the hadith of Sa'dawaih.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ attended on the day of Eid. After he finished his prayer, he said, "Whoever wants to listen to the sermon, let him listen, and whoever wants to leave, let him leave." Abu Tahir Al-Faqih and Abu Sa'id As-Sairafi informed us, they said: Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad Ibn Ya'qub reported to us, he said: I heard Al-Abbas, meaning Ad-Dawri, saying, "I heard Yahya, meaning Ibn Ma'in, saying, 'Abdullah Ibn As-Sa'ib, who narrates that the Prophet ﷺ performed the Eid prayer with them, this is incorrect. It is only a gift (from the Prophet). The mistake was made by Al-Fadl Ibn Musa As-Sinani, who said about Abdullah Ibn As-Sa'ib, 'The scholar, may Allah have mercy on him, said.'"

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prayed the Eid prayer with the people, then he said, "Whoever wants to leave, let him leave, and whoever wants to stay, let him stay."
6.28 [Machine] The Imam does not pray before and after Eid in the mosque.
[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , that he went out on the day of Eid al-Fitr and prayed two units of prayer that he had not prayed before or after them. Then he came to the women, accompanied by Bilal, and commanded them to give charity. So a woman began to throw her earrings and her bracelets. Al-Bukhari narrated it in Sahih from Hajjaj ibn Minhal and others, except that in the narration of Hajjaj, he said that the woman began to throw her necklaces. Ahmad ibn Ubaid narrated it in his narration on the authority of someone other than him. And Muslim narrated it from various angles from Shu'bah.
This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Aḥmad 1372)
[Machine] The translation of the passage is as follows: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two voluntary units of prayer after returning from the mosque."
6.29 [Machine] The mobile worshiper moves before and after the Eid prayer in his house, the mosque, his path, the prayer area, or wherever possible.
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, are there any times during the day and night when it is forbidden for me to pray?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you pray Fajr (dawn prayer), then shorten your prayer until the sun has risen; for it rises between the horns of Satan. Then the prayer is forbidden, but acceptable, until midday. When midday comes, then shorten your prayer until the sun starts to decline; for at that time it is as if Hell is kindled and the intensity of the heat is from a breath of Hell. When the sun sets, then the prayer is seen but forbidden, until you pray Asr (afternoon prayer). When you pray Asr, then shorten your prayer until the sun sets; then the prayer is seen but forbidden, until you pray Fajr."
