ahmad:13127Ibn Abū ʿAdī > Ḥumayd > Anas

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the immigrants went out to dig the trench on a cold morning. Anas narrated that they did not have servants, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Allah, indeed the good is only the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajireen." They responded, "We are the ones who pledged allegiance to Muhammad for jihad, we will never retreat."

On the day (of the battle) of the Trench, the Ansar were saying, "We are those who have sworn allegiance to Muhammad for Jihaid (for ever) as long as we live." The Prophet ﷺ replied to them, "O Allah! There is no life except the life of the Hereafter. So honor the Ansar and emigrants with Your Generosity." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2961)

The Prophet ﷺ paid a visit to Um-Sulaim and she placed before him dates and ghee. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Replace the ghee and dates in their respective containers for I am fasting." Then he stood somewhere in her house and offered an optional prayer and then he invoked good on Um-Sulaim and her family. Then Um-Sulaim said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have a special request (today)." He said, "What is it?" She replied, "(Please invoke for) your servant Anas." So Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not leave anything good in the world or the Hereafter which he did not invoke (Allah to bestow) on me and said, "O Allah! Give him (i.e. Anas) property and children and bless him." Thus I am one of the richest among the Ansar and my daughter Umaina told me that when Al-Hajjaj came to Basra, more than 120 of my offspring had been buried.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ came to Umm Sulaym's house and she presented him with some butter and dates. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Put your butter in your dish and your dates in your container, for I am fasting." He then stood and prayed in a corner of the house, and we prayed behind him. Afterwards, he prayed for Umm Sulaym and her family. Umm Sulaym said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a request." He asked, "What is it?" She replied, "Anas." He said, "He has never left a day without supplicating for goodness in this world and the hereafter for Umm Sulaym. He would say, 'O Allah, provide him with wealth and children, and bless them for him.'" Anas said, "My daughter told me that he was buried after living for 120 and a half years. I am among the Ansar who have the most wealth."

أحمد:١٢٩٥٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ

ahmad:13594ʿAffān > Ḥammād > Thābit > Anas b. Mālik

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ visited Umm Haraam, so we brought him dates and clarified butter. He said, "Put this in its container and this in its pitcher, for I am fasting." He then stood up and prayed two voluntary units of prayer with us. Umm Haraam and Umm Sulaym stood behind us, and he made me stand on his right, which he usually did not do. He then prayed voluntary prayer on a mat. When he finished his prayer, Umm Sulaym said, "I have a request, which is that you pray to Allah for Anas." At that moment, he did not leave without making supplication for me. He said, "O Allah, increase his wealth, progeny, and bless him in it." Anas said, "My daughter informed me that I have buried from my loins ninety-nine descendants, and there was no one in al-Ansar who had more wealth than me." Then Anas said, "O Thabit, I do not own any yellow or white property except for my ring."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the house of Umm Salamah, and she presented him with dates and clarified butter. He was fasting, so he said, "Put your dates in a container and your clarified butter in another, then he stood up facing the direction of the Kaaba and performed two units of prayer, and we prayed behind him. Then he made a supplication for Umm Salamah and her household with goodness. Umm Salamah said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a Khawaisah (servant)." He asked, "What is her matter?" She replied, "Your servant Anas." He said, "He will never abandon any goodness, both in this worldly life and the Hereafter, without praying for me regarding it." Then he said, "O Allah, grant him wealth and offspring, and bless him in them." Anas said, "There was no Ansari who had more wealth than me, and he mentioned that he did not possess any gold or silver besides his own ring." He also mentioned that his eldest daughter, Umaynah, informed him that he was buried from his navel to his forehead and was ninety-nine years old.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to the daughter of Milhan and reclined there (and slept) and then (woke up) smiling. She asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What makes you smile?" He replied, (I dreamt that) some people amongst my followers were sailing on the green sea in Allah's Cause, resembling kings on thrones." She said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Invoke Allah to make me one of them." He said, "O Allah! Let her be one of them." Then he (slept again and woke up and) smiled. She asked him the same question and he gave the same reply. She said, "Invoke Allah to make me one of them." He replied, ''You will be amongst the first group of them; you will not be amongst the last." Later on she married 'Ubada bin As-Samit and then she sailed on the sea with bint Qaraza, Mu'awiya's wife (for Jihad). On her return, she mounted her riding animal, which threw her down breaking her neck, and she died on falling down.

[Machine] I heard Anas bin Malik say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leaned on the daughter of Milhan. He then raised his head and laughed. She asked, "Why are you laughing, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because of a group of my Ummah who will ride on this green sea as warriors for the sake of Allah. Their example is like the kings on their thrones." She said, "Pray to Allah, O Messenger of Allah, to make me one of them." He said, "O Allah, make her one of them." She then got married to Ubada bin As-Samit. She rode in the sea with the daughter of Quraza until they reached a point where the ride became difficult for her, so she fell off and died.

One night I slept at the house of Maimuna. The Prophet ﷺ woke up, answered the call of nature, washed his face and hands, and then slept. He got up (late at night), went to a water skin, opened the mouth thereof and performed ablution not using much water, yet he washed all the parts properly and then offered the prayer. I got up and straightened my back in order that the Prophet ﷺ might not feel that I was watching him, and then I performed the ablution, and when he got up to offer the prayer, I stood on his left. He caught hold of my ear and brought me over to his right side. He offered thirteen rakʿat in all and then lay down and slept till he started blowing out his breath as he used to do when he slept. In the meantime Bilal informed the Prophet ﷺ of the approaching time for the (Fajr) prayer, and the Prophet offered the Fajr (Morning) prayer without performing new ablution. He used to say in his invocation, Allahumma ijʿal fi qalbi nuran wa fi basari nuran, wa fi samʿi nuran, waʿan yamini nuran, waʿan yasari nuran, wa fawqi nuran, wa tahti nuran, wa amami nuran, wa khalfi nuran, wajʿal li nuran." Kuraib (a sub narrator) said, "I have forgotten seven other words, (which the Prophet ﷺ mentioned in this invocation). I met a man from the offspring of Al-ʿAbbas and he narrated those seven things to me, mentioning, '(Let there be light in) my nerves, my flesh, my blood, my hair and my body,' and he also mentioned two other things."

I spent a night with my maternal aunt (sister of my mother) Maimuna. The Apostle of Allah ﷺ got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. He then got up again, and came to the water skin and loosened its straps, then performed good ablution between the two extremes. He then stood up and observed prayer. I also stood up and stretched my body fearing that he might be under the impression that I was there to find out (what he did at night). So I also performed ablution and stood up to pray, but I stood on his left. He took hold of my hand and made me go around to his right side. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed thirteen rakʿahs of his night prayer. He then lay down and slept and snored (and it was his habit to snore while asleep). Then Bilal came and he informed him about the prayer. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up for prayer and did not perform ablution, and his supplication included these words: "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight, light in my hearing, light on my right hand, light on my left hand, light above me, light below me, light in front of me, light behind me, and enhance light for me." Kuraib (the narrator) said: There are seven (words more) which are in my heart (but I cannot recall them) and I met some of the descendants of Al-ʿAbbas and they narrated these words to me and mentioned in them: (Light) in my sinew, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, in my skin, and made a mention of two more things.

[Machine] I stayed at my aunt Maymuna's house and observed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying. He stood up and started washing his face and hands, then he laid down and slept. He woke up and went towards the place for prayer and untied his hair. Then he poured water in the jug or basin and cupped his hands with it. He then performed a good and excellent ablution between the two ablutions. He stood up to pray, and I stood on his left side, but he took hold of me and made me stand on his right side. The prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consisted of thirteen rak'ahs in total. Then he went back to sleep until he snored, and we recognized that he was asleep by his snoring. Then he went out for prayer and prayed, saying either in his prayer or in his prostration, "O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, light above me, light below me, and make me a light." Shu'bah or someone else said, "Or he said, 'Place light for me.'" 'Amr ibn Dinar narrated from Kurayb from Ibn Abbas that he had slept while lying down.

ahmad:3194ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Sufyān > Salamah > Kurayb > Ibn ʿAbbās

I met a man from the offspring of Al-ʿAbbas and he narrated those seven things to me, mentioning, '(Let there be light in) my nerves, my flesh, my blood, my hair and my body,' and he also mentioned two other things." [Machine] I stayed at my aunt's, Maimuna bint Al-Harith, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. I said to myself, "I will observe the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and see how he performs it." He came from the mosque and entered the side of the house to fulfill his need, then he went to the nearest spot and released the straps of his sandals. He washed his face and hands, then he took his bed and stayed there as long as Allah willed. Then he stood up and came to the side of the house, then he came to the nearest spot and released the straps of his sandals. Then he performed ablution, a perfect ablution in between two ablutions, not exceeding the amount of water used in ablution, even though he had poured water generously. Then he came to the mosque and said, "I did as he did," then I stood to his left and he held my hand and extended it from behind me, and he made me stand to his right. He prayed eight units of prayer and concluded with three units of Witr. Then he performed two units of prayer and said, "O Allah, grant me light in my heart, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light in my hair, light in my skin, light in my flesh, light in my blood, light in front of me, light behind me, light to my right, light to my left, light beneath me, and light above me. O Allah, grant me light, make me light, and magnify the light for me."

On the day of the battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ said, "O Allah! I appeal to You (to fulfill) Your Covenant and Promise. O Allah! If Your Will is that none should worship You (then give victory to the pagans)." Then Abu Bakr took hold of him by the hand and said, "This is sufficient for you." The Prophet came out saying, "Their multitude will be put to flight and they will show their backs." (54.45)

The Prophet ﷺ , while in a tent (on the day of the battle of Badr) said, "O Allah! I ask you the fulfillment of Your Covenant and Promise. O Allah! If You wish (to destroy the believers) You will never be worshipped after today." Abu Bakr caught him by the hand and said, "This is sufficient, O Allah's Apostle! You have asked Allah pressingly." The Prophet ﷺ was clad in his armor at that time. He went out, saying to me: "There multitude will be put to flight and they will show their backs. Nay, but the Hour is their appointed time (for their full recompense) and that Hour will be more grievous and more bitter (than their worldly failure)." (54.45-46) Khalid said that was on the day of the battle of Badr.

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during the Farewell Pilgrimage, "O people, what day is this?" They said, "This is a forbidden day." He said, "What land is this?" They said, "A forbidden land." He said, "What month is this?" They said, "A forbidden month." He said, "Verily, your lives, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to you, just as this day of yours is sacred, in this land of yours, in this month of yours." Then he repeated it several times. Then he raised his head to the sky and said, "O Allah, have I conveyed the message?" Ibn Abbas said, "By Allah, it is indeed a testament to his Lord." Then he said, "So let the witness inform the absent ones, do not turn back after me as disbelievers, striking the necks of one another."

[Machine] I heard Abu Ghadiyah saying, "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." Abu Sa'id said, "I asked him, 'Did you pledge allegiance with your right hand?'" He replied, 'Yes.' They both mentioned in the narration that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us on the day of Al-Aqaba and said, 'O people, your blood and wealth are forbidden to each other until the Day you meet your Lord, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this city of yours. Have I conveyed the message?' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'O Allah, bear witness.' Then he said, 'Do not revert to disbelief after me by striking the necks of one another.

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ addressed the people in Mina and said, "Do you know what day is today?" They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He remained silent until we thought he would name it something else. Then he said, "Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?" They replied, "Yes." He asked, "And which place is this?" They replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Is it not in the Haram (sacred land)?" They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Verily, your blood, your wealth, your honor, and your sacred rites in this month of yours are as sacred as this day of yours in this city of yours. Have I conveyed the message?" They replied, "Yes." He said, "O Allah, bear witness." Then he repeated it three times, "O Allah, bear witness."
