١٥۔ سُورَةُ الحِجْر ص ١

The Rock (Meccan)

quran:15:1In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.  

Alif lām rā’: God knows best what He means by these ˹letters˺. Those — these verses — are the verses of the Book, the Qur’ān (āyātu’l-kitābi: this annexation functions in the sense of min, ‘from’) and of a manifest Qur’ān, one that makes evident what is truth and what is falsehood (wa-qur’ānin mubīnin is ˹made up of˺ a supplement with an added adjectival qualification).
القرآن:١٥:١بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ مُبِينٍ  

{الر} الله أعلم بمراده بذلك {تلك} هذه الآيات {آيات الكتاب} القرآن والإضافة بمعنى من {وقرآن مبين} مظهر للحق من الباطل عطف بزيادة صفة.
quran:15:2

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.  

It may be that (read rubbamā or rubamā) those who disbelieve, on the Day of Resurrection, when they witness their predicament and that of the Muslims, will wish that they had been muslims (rubba here is used to indicate ‘many’, since many of them will wish this; but it is also said to indicate ‘few’, since they will be so stupefied by the terrors that they will not come out of their stupor to wish such a thing, except on a few occasions:
القرآن:١٥:٢

رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ  

{رُبَّمَا} بالتشديد والتخفيف {يود} يتمنى {الذين كفروا} يوم القيامة إذا عاينوا حالهم وحال المسلمين {لو كانوا مسلمين} ورب للتكثير فإنه يكثر منهم تمني ذلك وقيل للتقليل فإن الأهوال تدهشهم فلا يفيقون حتى يتمنوا ذلك إلا في أحيان قليلة.
quran:15:3

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by ˹false˺ hope, for they are going to know.  

Leave them, the disbelievers, O Muhammad (s), to eat and to enjoy, this world of theirs, and that they be diverted, distracted, by hope, of a long life and other ˹such˺ matters, ˹that keep them˺ away from faith, for they will come to know, the sequel of their affair — this was ˹revealed˺ before the command to fight ˹them˺.
القرآن:١٥:٣

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ  

{ذرهم} اترك الكفار يا محمد {يأكلوا ويتمتعوا} بدنياهم {ويلههم} يشغلهم {الأمل} بطول العمر وغيره عن الإيمان {فسوف يعلمون} عاقبة أمرهم وهذا قبل الأمر بالقتال.
quran:15:4

And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.  

And We did not destroy any town (min qaryatin: min is extra), meaning, its inhabitants, but that it had a known decree, a ˹pre-˺determined term, after which it would be destroyed.
القرآن:١٥:٤

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَعْلُومٌ  

{وما أهلكنا من} زائدة {قرية} أريد أهلها {إلا ولها كتاب} أجل {معلوم} محدود لإهلاكها.
quran:15:5

No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.  

No community (min ummatin: min is extra) can outstrip its ˹predetermined˺ term nor can they ˹seek to˺ delay it, ˹nor can they˺ put it off.
القرآن:١٥:٥

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ  

{ما تسبق من} زائدة {أمة أجلها وما يستأخرون} يتأخرون عنه.
quran:15:6

And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.  

And they, that is, the disbelievers of Mecca, say, to the Prophet (s): ‘O you, to whom the Remembrance, the Qur’ān — as you claim — has been revealed, lo! you are indeed possessed!
القرآن:١٥:٦

وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ  

{وقالوا} أي كفار مكة للنبي ﷺ {يا أيها الذي نُزّل عليه الذكر} القرآن في زعمه {إنك لمجنون}.
quran:15:7

Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"  

Why do you not bring us the angels, if you are of the truthful?’, in saying that you are a prophet and that this Qur’ān is from God.
القرآن:١٥:٧

لَوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ  

{لو ما} هلا {تأتينا بالملائكة إن كنت من الصادقين} في قولك إنك نبي وإن هذا القرآن من عند الله.
quran:15:8

We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved.  

God, exalted be He, says: The angels do not descend (tanazzalu: one of the two tā’ letters ˹of tatanazzalu˺ has been omitted) save with the truth, with the chastisement; and then, that is, upon the descent of the angels with the chastisement, they ˹the disbelievers˺ would not be reprieved, ˹would not˺ be granted respite.
القرآن:١٥:٨

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوا إِذًا مُنْظَرِينَ  

قال تعالى {ما تَنَزَّلُ} فيه حذف إحدى التاءين {الملائكة إلا بالحق} بالعذاب {وما كانوا إذاً} أي حين نزول الملائكة بالعذاب {منظرين} مؤخرين.
quran:15:9

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.  

Verily it is We (nahnu emphasises the subject of inna, or ˹functions as˺ a separating pronoun) Who have revealed the Remembrance, the Qur’ān, and assuredly We will preserve it, against substitution, distortion, additions and omissions.
القرآن:١٥:٩

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ  

{إنا نحن} تأكيد لاسم إن أو فصل {نزلنا الذكر} القرآن {وإنا له لحافظون} من التبديل والتحريف والزيادة والنقص.
quran:15:10

And We had certainly sent ˹messengers˺ before you, ˹O Muhammad˺, among the sects of the former peoples.  

And verily We sent before you, messengers, to former factions, sects.
القرآن:١٥:١٠

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ  

{ولقد أرسلنا من قبلك} رسلا {في شيع} فرق {الأولين}.
quran:15:11

And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.  

And never did a messenger come to them but that they mocked him, in the same way that your people have mocked you — this is meant to comfort the Prophet (s).
القرآن:١٥:١١

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ  

{وما} كان {يأتيهم من رسول إلا كانوا به يستهزئون} كاستهزاء قومك بك وهذا تسلية له ﷺ .
quran:15:12

Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.  

Thus We cause it to find its way, in other words, in the same way that We have caused denial to enter the hearts of those ˹individuals˺, We cause it to enter, into the hearts of the sinners, that is, the disbelievers of Mecca.
القرآن:١٥:١٢

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ  

{كذلك نسلكه} أي مثل إدخالنا التكذيب في قلوب أولئك ندخله {في قلوب المجرمين} أي كفار مكة.
quran:15:13

They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.  

They do not believe in him, in the Prophet (s), even though the example of the men of old has already gone before, that is, the way of God ˹in dealing˺ with them ˹those of old˺, by chastising them for denying ˹the truthfulness of˺ their prophets: those ˹Meccans˺ are like these former.
القرآن:١٥:١٣

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ  

{لا يؤمنون به} بالنبي ﷺ {وقد خلت سنة الأولين} أي سنة الله فيهم من تعذيبهم بتكذيبهم أنبياءهم وهؤلاء مثلهم.
quran:15:14

And ˹even˺ if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,  

And even if We were to open for them a gate from the heaven, and they were to continue ascending through it, the gate,
القرآن:١٥:١٤

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَابًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَظَلُّوا فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ  

{ولو فتحنا عليهم بابا من السماء فظلوا فيه} في الباب {يعرجون} يصعدون.
quran:15:15

They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."  

they would say, ‘It is merely that our eyes have been dazzled, they have been shut. Nay, we are a folk bewitched!’, imagining this.
القرآن:١٥:١٥

لَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَسْحُورُونَ  

{لقالوا إنما سُكِّرت} سدت {أبصارنا بل نحن قوم مسحورون} يخيل إلينا ذلك.
quran:15:16

And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.  

And verily We have placed in the heaven constellations, twelve ˹of them˺: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo (al-sunbula), Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, which are the mansions of the seven orbiting planets: Mars rules Aries and Scorpio, Venus: Taurus and Libra, Mercury: Gemini and Virgo, the Moon: Cancer, the Sun: Leo, Jupiter: Sagittarius and Pisces, and Saturn: Capricorn and Aquarius; and We have adorned it, with ˹these˺ planets, for beholders;
القرآن:١٥:١٦

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِي السَّمَاءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا لِلنَّاظِرِينَ  

{ولقد جعلنا في السماء بروجا} اثني عشر: الحمل والثور والجوزاء والسرطان والأسد والسنبلة والميزان والعقرب والقوس والجدي والدلو والحوت، وهي منازل الكواكب السبعة السيارة: المريخ وله الحمل والعقرب، والزهرة ولها الثور والميزان، وعطارد وله الجوزاء والسنبلة، والقمر وله السرطان، والشمس ولها الأسد، والمشتري وله القوس والحوت، وزحل له الجدي والدلو {وزيناها} بالكواكب {للناظرين}.
quran:15:17

And We have protected it from every devil expelled ˹from the mercy of Allah˺  

and We have guarded them, with meteors, from every outcast devil;
القرآن:١٥:١٧

وَحَفِظْنَاهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ  

{وحفظناها} بالشهب {من كل شيطان رجيم} مرجوم.
quran:15:18

Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.  

except the one who listens by stealth — he is pursued by a clear flame, a shining meteor that burns him, or pierces him or drives him insane.
القرآن:١٥:١٨

إِلَّا مَنِ اسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ مُبِينٌ  

{إلا} لكن {من استرق السمع} خطفه {فأتبعه شهاب مبين} كوكب يضيء ويحرقه أو يثقبه أو يخبله.
quran:15:19

And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein ˹something˺ of every well-balanced thing.  

And the earth We have stretched it out, spread it flat, and cast therein firm mountains, lest it should sway beneath its inhabitants, and caused to grow therein every kind of balanced thing, ˹every kind of thing˺ known and determined.
القرآن:١٥:١٩

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَوْزُونٍ  

{والأرض مددناها} بسطناها {وألقينا فيها رواسي} جبالا ثوابت لئلا تتحرك بأهلها {وأنبتنا فيها من كل شيء موزون} معلوم مقدر.
quran:15:20

And We have made for you therein means of living and ˹for˺ those for whom you are not providers.  

And We have made for you therein ˹means of˺ livelihood (read ma‘āyish), such as fruits and grains, and, We have made ˹this˺ for you, those for whom you do not provide, such as servants, ˹crawling˺ creatures and cattle; it is God Who provides for them.
القرآن:١٥:٢٠

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ وَمَنْ لَسْتُمْ لَهُ بِرَازِقِينَ  

{وجعلنا لكم فيها معايش} بالياء من الثمار والحبوب {و} جعلنا لكم {من لستم له برازقين} من العبيد والدواب والأنعام فإنما يرزقهم الله.
quran:15:21

And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.  

And there is not a thing but that the stores thereof, the keys to its stores, are with Us, and We do not send it down except in a known measure, according to the benefits ˹of all creatures˺.
القرآن:١٥:٢١

وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ  

{وإن} ما {من} زائدة {شيء إلا عندنا خزائنه} مفاتيح خزائنه {وما ننزله إلا بقدر معلوم} على حسب المصالح.
quran:15:22

And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.  

And We send the winds as fertilisers, to fertilise the clouds, whereupon they fill up with water, and send down out of the heaven, ˹out of˺ the clouds, water, rain, so that We give it to you to drink, for you are not the storers thereof, that is, the stores thereof are not in your control.
القرآن:١٥:٢٢

وَأَرْسَلْنَا الرِّيَاحَ لَوَاقِحَ فَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمُوهُ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ لَهُ بِخَازِنِينَ  

{وأرسلنا الرياح لواقح} تلقح السحاب فيمتلئ ماء {فأنزلنا من السماء} السحاب {ماء} مطرا {فأسقيناكموه وما أنتم له بخازنين} أي ليست خزائنه بأيديكم.
quran:15:23

And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.  

Indeed it is We Who give life and bring death, and We are the heirs, Who shall endure, inheriting all creation.
القرآن:١٥:٢٣

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْيِي وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَارِثُونَ  

{وإنا لنحن نحي ونميت ونحن الوارثون} الباقون نرث جميع الخلق.
quran:15:24

And We have already known the preceding ˹generations˺ among you, and We have already known the later ˹ones to come˺.  

And verily We know the predecessors among you, that is, those creatures from Adam who have already passed, and verily We know the successors, those who will come afterwards, until the Day of Resurrection.
القرآن:١٥:٢٤

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ  

{ولقد علمنا المستقدمين منكم} أي من تقدم من الخلق من لدن آدم {ولقد علمنا المستأخرين} المتأخرين إلى يوم القيامة.
quran:15:25

And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.  

And it is indeed your Lord Who will gather them, lo! He is Wise, in His actions, Knower, of His creatures.
القرآن:١٥:٢٥

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ  

{وإن ربك هو يحشرهم إنه حكيم} في صنعه {عليم} بخلقه.
quran:15:26

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.  

And verily We created man, Adam, out of a dry ˹clinking˺ clay, that gives off a clinking sound when it is tapped, of malleable mud, black ˹mud˺.
القرآن:١٥:٢٦

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ  

{ولقد خلقنا الإنسان} آدم {من صلصال} طين يابس يسمع له صلصلة إذا نقر {من حمأ} طين أسود {مسنون} متغير.
quran:15:27

And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.  

And the jānn, the father of the jinn, namely, Iblīs, We created beforehand — that is, before the creation of Adam — out of the permeative fire, a smokeless fire that can escape through openings.
القرآن:١٥:٢٧

وَالْجَانَّ خَلَقْنَاهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ مِنْ نَارِ السَّمُومِ  

{والجان} أبا الجان وهو إبليس {خلقناه من قبل} أي قبل خلق آدم {من نار السموم} هي نار لا دخان لها تنفذ من المسام.
quran:15:28

And ˹mention, O Muhammad˺, when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.  

And, mention, when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed I am going to create a mortal out of a dry clay ˹drawn˺ from a malleable mud.
القرآن:١٥:٢٨

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ  

{و} اذكر {إذ قال ربك للملائكة إني خالق بشرا من صلصال من حمأ مسنون}.
quran:15:29

And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My ˹created˺ soul, then fall down to him in prostration."  

So, when I have proportioned him, completed him, and breathed, caused to flow, of My Spirit in him, so that he becomes a living thing — the annexation of ‘the Spirit’ to him is a conferring of honour upon Adam — fall down in prostration before him!’, a prostration ˹meant as an act˺ of salutation by bowing.
القرآن:١٥:٢٩

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ  

{فإذا سويته} أتممته {ونفخت} أجريت {فيه من روحي} فصار حيا وإضافة الروح إليه تشريف لآدم {فقعوا له ساجدين} سجود تحية بالانحناء.
quran:15:30

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,  

And so the angels prostrated, all of them together (kulluhum ajma‘ūn contains two elements of emphasis),
القرآن:١٥:٣٠

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ  

{فسجد الملائكة كلهم أجمعون} فيه تأكيدان.
quran:15:31

Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.  

except Iblīs, the father of the jinn — he was ˹standing˺ among the angels: he refused to be among those prostrating.
القرآن:١٥:٣١

إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ  

{إلا إبليس} هو أبو الجن كان بين الملائكة {أبى} امتنع من {أن يكون مع الساجدين}.
quran:15:32

˹Allah˺ said, O Iblees, what is ˹the matter˺ with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"  

He, ˹God˺ exalted be He: ‘O Iblīs what is wrong with you, what prevents you, that you are not among those prostrating?’
القرآن:١٥:٣٢

قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ  

{قال} تعالى {يا إبليس مالك} ما منعك {أ} ن {لا} زائدة {تكون مع الساجدين}.
quran:15:33

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."  

Said he, ‘I was not about to prostrate myself, I should not prostrate myself, before a mortal whom You have created out of a dry clay ˹drawn˺ from malleable mud’.
القرآن:١٥:٣٣

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُنْ لِأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ  

{قال لم أكن لأسجد} لا ينبغي لي أن أسجد {لبشر خلقته من صلصال من حمأ مسنون}.
quran:15:34

˹Allah˺ said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.  

Said He, ‘Then be gone from hence, that is, from the Garden — but it is also said, from the heavens — for you are indeed accursed, outcast.
القرآن:١٥:٣٤

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ  

{قال فاخرج منها} أي الجنة وقيل من السماوات {فإنك رجيم} مطرود.
quran:15:35

And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."  

And indeed the curse shall rest upon you until the Day of Judgement’, ˹the Day˺ of Requital.
القرآن:١٥:٣٥

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ  

{وإن عليك اللعنة إلى يوم الدين} الجزاء.
quran:15:36

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."  

Said he, ‘My Lord! Reprieve me until the day when they, mankind, shall be resurrected’.
القرآن:١٥:٣٦

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنْظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ  

{قال رب فأنظرني إلى يوم يبعثون} أي الناس.
quran:15:37

˹Allah˺ said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved  

Said He, ‘Then lo! you are of those reprieved,
القرآن:١٥:٣٧

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ  

{قال فإنك من المنظرين}.
quran:15:38

Until the Day of the time well-known."  

until the day of the known time’, the time of ˹the blowing of˺ the First Trumpet.
القرآن:١٥:٣٨

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ  

{إلى يوم الوقت المعلوم} وقت النفخة الأولى.
quran:15:39

˹Iblees˺ said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make ˹disobedience˺ attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all  

Said he, ‘My Lord, because You have lead me astray (bi-mā, ‘because’, the bi- is for oaths, the response for which is ˹what follows˺) I shall adorn for them ˹evil acts˺, acts of disobedience, in the earth and I shall lead them astray, all of them;
القرآن:١٥:٣٩

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ  

{قال ربّ بما أغويتني} أي بإغوائك لي والباء للقسم وجوابه {لأزيِّنَنَّ لهم في الأرض} المعاصي {ولأغوينهم أجمعين},
quran:15:40

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."  

except those servants of Yours who are sincerely devoted ˹to You˺’, namely, believers.
القرآن:١٥:٤٠

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ  

{إلا عبادك منهم المخلصين} أي المؤمنين.
quran:15:41

˹Allah˺ said, "This is a path ˹of return˺ to Me ˹that is˺ straight.  

He, ˹God˺ exalted be He, said, ‘This is a straight path ˹leading˺ to Me,
القرآن:١٥:٤١

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ عَلَيَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ  

{قال} تعالى {هذا صراط عليَّ مستقيم}.
quran:15:42

Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.  

in other words, truly over My servants, that is, believers, you shall have no warrant, ˹no˺ power, except those who follow you from among the perverse, the disbelievers.
القرآن:١٥:٤٢

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ  

وهو {إن عبادي} أي المؤمنين {ليس لك عليهم سلطان} قوة {إلا} لكن {من اتبعك من الغاوين} الكافرين.
quran:15:43

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.  

And truly Hell shall be their tryst, all of them, that is, all those who follow you, shall be with you ˹in Hell˺.
القرآن:١٥:٤٣

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ  

{وإن جهنم لموعدهم أجمعين} أي من اتبعك معك.
quran:15:44

It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated."  

It has seven gates, ˹seven˺ layers — to each gate, therein, belongs an appointed portion, lot, of them.
القرآن:١٥:٤٤

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَابٍ لِكُلِّ بَابٍ مِنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَقْسُومٌ  

{لها سبعة أبواب} أطباق {لكل باب} منها {منهم جزء} نصيب {مقسوم}.
quran:15:45

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.  

Truly the God-fearing shall be amidst gardens, orchards, and springs’, flowing through them.
القرآن:١٥:٤٥

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ  

{إن المتقين في جنات} بساتين {وعيون} تجري فيها.
quran:15:46

˹Having been told˺, "Enter it in peace, safe ˹and secure˺."  

And it shall be said to them: ‘Enter them in peace, that is, safe from all danger — or ˹it means enter˺ with ˹the greeting of˺ ‘Peace!’, in other words: say, ‘Peace’ and then enter, secure!’, from all terror.
القرآن:١٥:٤٦

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ  

ويقال لهم {ادخلوها بسلام} أي سالمين من كل مخوّف أو مع سلام أي سلموا وادخلوا {آمنين} من كل فزع.
quran:15:47

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, ˹so they will be˺ brothers, on thrones facing each other.  

And We remove whatever rancour, spite, may be in their breasts. As brethren (ikhwānan is a circumstantial qualifier referring to them), ˹they shall recline˺ upon couches, facing one another (mutaqābilīn is also a circumstantial qualifier), in other words, they do not look upon each other’s backs, because the couches revolve with them in them.
القرآن:١٥:٤٧

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِمْ مِنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ  

{ونزعنا ما في صدورهم من غِلِّ} حقد {إخوانا} حال منهم {على سُرر متقابلين} حال أيضا أي لا ينظر بعضهم إلى قفا بعض لدورات الأسرَّة بهم.
quran:15:48

No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they ˹ever˺ be removed.  

No toil, ˹no˺ weariness, will touch them, nor will they be expelled from thence, ever.
القرآن:١٥:٤٨

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُمْ مِنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ  

{لا يمسهم فيها نَصَبٌ} تعب {وما هم منها بمخرجين} أبدا.
quran:15:49

˹O Muhammad˺, inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.  

Tell, inform, O Muhammad (s), My servants that verily I am the Forgiving, of believers, the Merciful, to them,
القرآن:١٥:٤٩

نَبِّئْ عِبَادِي أَنِّي أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ  

{نبئ} خبر يا محمد {عبادي أني أنا الغفور} للمؤمنين {الرحيم} بهم.
quran:15:50

And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.  

and that My chastisement, of those who are disobedient, is the painful chastisement.
القرآن:١٥:٥٠

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِي هُوَ الْعَذَابُ الْأَلِيمُ  

{وأن عذابي} للعصاة {هو العذاب الأليم} المؤلم.
