15. Sūrat al-Ḥijr (2/2)

١٥۔ سُورَةُ الحِجْر ص ٢

The Rock (Meccan)

quran:15:51

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,  

And tell them of the guests of Abraham, that is, the angels — there were twelve, ten or three of them, among them Gabriel;
القرآن:١٥:٥١

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَنْ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ  

{ونبئهم عن ضيف إبراهيم} وهم الملائكة اثنا عشر أو عشرة أو ثلاثة منهم جبريل.
quran:15:52

When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." ˹Abraham˺ said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."  

˹how˺ when they entered unto him, and said, ‘Peace!’, that is, ˹they said˺ this very word (salām). He, Abraham, said, after having offered them food which they did not eat: ‘Lo! we are afraid of you’.
القرآن:١٥:٥٢

إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنْكُمْ وَجِلُونَ  

{إذ دخلوا عليه فقالوا سلاما} أي هذا اللفظ {قال} إبراهيم لما عرض عليم الأكل فلم يأكلوا {إنا منكم وجلون} خائفون.
quran:15:53

˹The angels˺ said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."  

They said, ‘Do not be afraid; lo!, we, are the messengers of your Lord ˹sent to˺, give you good tidings of a knowledgeable boy’, one very knowledgeable ˹boy˺, namely, Isaac — as we mentioned in sūrat Hūd ˹Q. 11:69˺.
القرآن:١٥:٥٣

قَالُوا لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ  

{قالوا لا توجل} لا تخف {إنا} رسل ربك {نبشرك بغلام عليم} ذي علم كثير هو إسحاق كما ذكرنا في سورة هود.
quran:15:54

He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what ˹wonder˺ do you inform?"  

He said, ‘Do you give me good tidings, of a boy, when old age has befallen me?’ (‘alā an massaniya l-kibaru is a circumstantial qualifier), in other words, despite the fact of its having befallen me? So, of what, thing, do you give me good tidings?’ (an interrogative meant to indicate amazement).
القرآن:١٥:٥٤

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِي عَلَىٰ أَنْ مَسَّنِيَ الْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ  

{قال أبشرتموني} بالولد {على أن مسني الكبر} حال أي مع مسه إياي {فبم} فبأي شيء {تبشرون} استفهام تعجب.
quran:15:55

They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."  

They said, ‘We give you good tidings in truth, sincerely; so do not be of the despairing’, the despondent.
القرآن:١٥:٥٥

قَالُوا بَشَّرْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُنْ مِنَ الْقَانِطِينَ  

{قالوا بشرناك بالحق} بالصدق {فلا تكن من القانطين} الآيسين.
quran:15:56

He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"  

He said, ‘And who — in other words, no one — despairs (read yaqnitu or yaqnatu) of the mercy of his Lord, save those who are astray?’, ˹save˺ disbelievers.
القرآن:١٥:٥٦

قَالَ وَمَنْ يَقْنَطُ مِنْ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّهِ إِلَّا الضَّالُّونَ  

{قال ومن} أي لا {يقنَِط} بكسر النون وفتحها {من رحمة ربه إلا الضالون} الكافرون.
quran:15:57

˹Abraham˺ said, "Then what is your business ˹here˺, O messengers?"  

He said, ‘So what is your business, O you who have been sent ˹by God˺?’
القرآن:١٥:٥٧

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ  

{قال فما خطبكم} شأنكم {أيها المرسلون}.
quran:15:58

They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,  

They said, ‘We have been sent to a sinning folk, a disbelieving ˹folk˺, namely, the people of Lot, in order to destroy them;
القرآن:١٥:٥٨

قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُجْرِمِينَ  

{قالوا إنا أرسلنا إلى قوم مجرمين} كافرين أي لوط لإهلاكهم.
quran:15:59

Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all  

˹all˺ except the family of Lot; indeed we shall save them, all of them, because of their faith,
القرآن:١٥:٥٩

إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ  

{إلا آل لوط إنا لمنجوهم أجمعين} لإيمانهم.
quran:15:60

Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.  

except his wife — We have decreed that she indeed should be of those who will remain behind’, ˹of˺ those who will stay behind in the chastisement, because of her unbelief.
القرآن:١٥:٦٠

إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَا ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ  

{إلا امرأته قدرنا إنها لمن الغابرين} الباقين في العذاب لكفرها.
quran:15:61

And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,  

And when those who had been sent ˹by God˺ came to the family of Lot, that is, to Lot ˹himself˺,
القرآن:١٥:٦١

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ آلَ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلُونَ  

{فلما جاء آل لوط} أي لوطا {المرسلون}.
quran:15:62

He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."  

he said, to them, ‘Indeed you are strangers’, that is, I do not know you.
القرآن:١٥:٦٢

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُنْكَرُونَ  

{قال} لهم {إنكم قوم منكرون} لا أعرفكم.
quran:15:63

They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,  

They said, ‘Rather, we have come to you because of that which they, your people, used to doubt, namely, the chastisement.
القرآن:١٥:٦٣

قَالُوا بَلْ جِئْنَاكَ بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ  

{قالوا بل جئناك بما كانوا} أي قومك {فيه يمترون} يشكون وهو العذاب.
quran:15:64

And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.  

And we have brought you the Truth and indeed we speak truthfully, in what we say.
القرآن:١٥:٦٤

وَأَتَيْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ  

{وأتيناك بالحق وإنا لصادقون} في قولنا.
quran:15:65

So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."  

So travel with your family in a portion of the night and follow their rear, walk behind them; and let none of you turn round, lest he see the dreadful nature of that ˹punishment˺ which will be sent down on them, and go whither you are commanded’, namely, ˹to˺ Syria.
القرآن:١٥:٦٥

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ  

{فأَسْرِ بأهلك بقطع من الليل واتبع أدبارهم} امش خلفهم {ولا يلتفت منكم أحد} لئلا يرى عظيم ما ينزل بهم {وامضوا حيث تؤمرون} وهو الشام.
quran:15:66

And We conveyed to him ˹the decree˺ of that matter: that those ˹sinners˺ would be eliminated by early morning.  

And We conveyed, We revealed, to him the matter, which was, that these ˹sinners˺ was to be eradicated by morning (musbihīn is a circumstantial qualifier,), in other words, their annihilation will take place in the morning.
القرآن:١٥:٦٦

وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ الْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُصْبِحِينَ  

{وقضينا} أوحينا {إليه ذلك الأمر} وهو {أن دابر هؤلاء مقطوع مصبحين} حال أي يتم استئصالهم في الصباح.
quran:15:67

And the people of the city came rejoicing.  

And then came the people of the city, the city of Sodom, that is, the people of Lot, upon being told that there were handsome clean-shaven individuals — namely, the angels — in the house of Lot, rejoicing (yastabshirūn is a circumstantial qualifier), desiring to commit an abomination with them.
القرآن:١٥:٦٧

وَجَاءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ  

{وجاء أهل المدينة} مدينة سدوم وهم قوم لوط لما أخبروا أن في بيت لوط مردا حسانا وهم الملائكة {يستبشرون} حال طمعا في فعل الفاحشة بهم.
quran:15:68

˹Lot˺ said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.  

He, Lot, said, ‘Lo! these are my guests, so do not disgrace me;
القرآن:١٥:٦٨

قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ضَيْفِي فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ  

{قال} لوط {إن هؤلاء ضيفي فلا تفضحون}.
quran:15:69

And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."  

and fear God, and do not humiliate me’, by seeking them to commit an abomination with them.
القرآن:١٥:٦٩

وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ  

{واتقوا الله ولا تخزون} بقصدكم إياهم بفعل الفاحشة بهم.
quran:15:70

They said, "Have we not forbidden you from ˹protecting˺ people?"  

They said, ‘Have we not forbidden you from ˹entertaining˺ anyone?’, from offering them hospitality?
القرآن:١٥:٧٠

قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ  

{قالوا أو لم ننهك عن العالمين} عن إضافتهم.
quran:15:71

˹Lot˺ said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers ˹of lawful marriage˺."  

He said, ‘These here are my daughters, if you must be doing’, what you desire ˹to do˺ in the way of satisfying your lust, then marry them. God, exalted be He, says:
القرآن:١٥:٧١

قَالَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي إِنْ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ  

{قال هؤلاء بناتي إن كنتم فاعلين} ما تريدون من قضاء الشهوة فتزوجوهن. قال تعالى:
quran:15:72

By your life, ˹O Muhammad˺, indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.  

By your life — this is an address to the Prophet (s) — in their drunkenness they were bewildered, hesitant.
القرآن:١٥:٧٢

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِي سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ  

{لعمرك} خطاب للنبي ﷺ أي وحياتك {إنهم لفي سكرتهم يعمهون} يترددون.
quran:15:73

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.  

Then the Cry, the Cry of Gabriel, seized them at sunrise.
القرآن:١٥:٧٣

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ  

{فأخذتهم الصيحة} صيحة جبريل {مشرقين} وقت شروق الشمس.
quran:15:74

And We made the highest part ˹of the city˺ its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.  

And We made their, that is, their cities’, topmost part their nethermost, by Gabriel’s raising them ˹the cities˺ to the heaven and dropping them face down onto the earth, and We rained on them stones of baked clay, clay baked in fire.
القرآن:١٥:٧٤

فَجَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ  

{فجعلنا عاليها} أي قراهم {سافلها} بأن رفعها جبريل إلى السماء وأسقطها مقلوبة إلى الأرض {وأمطرنا عليهم حجارة من سجيل} طين طبخ بالنار.
quran:15:75

Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.  

Indeed in that, which is mentioned, there are signs, indications of God’s Oneness, for those who take note, ˹those who˺ observe and take heed.
القرآن:١٥:٧٥

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ  

{إن في ذلك} المذكور {لآيات} دلالات على وحدانية الله {للمتوسمين} للناظرين المعتبرين.
quran:15:76

And indeed, those cities are ˹situated˺ on an established road.  

And indeed they, that is, the cities of the people of Lot, are on a road that ˹still˺ remains, Quraysh’s route to Syria, ˹one˺ not yet effaced: so why do they not take heed from their example?
القرآن:١٥:٧٦

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ  

{وإنها} أي قرى قوم لوط {لبسبيل مقيم} طريق قريش إلى الشام لم تندرس أفلا يعتبرون بهم؟.
quran:15:77

Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.  

There is indeed a sign, a lesson, in that for believers.
القرآن:١٥:٧٧

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  

{إن في ذلك لآية} لعبرة {للمؤمنين}.
quran:15:78

And the companions of the thicket were ˹also˺ wrongdoers.  

And certainly (in has been softened, in other words ˹understand it as being˺ innahu) the dwellers in the wood, a huddle of trees near Midian — these were the people of ˹the prophet˺ Shu‘ayb — were evildoers, for denying Shu‘ayb.
القرآن:١٥:٧٨

وَإِنْ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَالِمِينَ  

{وإن} مخففة أي إنه {كان أصحاب الأيكة} هي غيضة شجر بقرب مدين وهم قوم شعيب {لظالمين} بتكذيبهم شعيبا.
quran:15:79

So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both ˹cities˺ are on a clear highway.  

So We exacted retribution from them, by destroying them through extreme heat. And certainly both of them, that is, the cities of the people of Lot and those of ˹the dwellers in˺ the wood, are upon a open road, plain ˹to see˺: so will you not take heed from their example, O people of Mecca?
القرآن:١٥:٧٩

فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُبِينٍ  

{فانتقمنا منهم} بأن أهلكناهم بشدة الحر {وإنهما} أي قرى قوم لوط والأيكة {لبإمام} طريق {مبين} واضح أفلا تعتبرون بهم يا أهل مكة.
quran:15:80

And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.  

And verily the dwellers in al-Hijr — a valley between Medina and Syria — namely, ˹the tribe of˺ Thamūd, denied those who had been sent ˹by God˺, when they denied ˹the prophet˺ Sālih, as this constituted a denial of the other messengers, since they all shared the fact that they came with ˹the Message proclaiming˺ the Oneness of God.
القرآن:١٥:٨٠

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ  

{ولقد كذب أصحاب الحجر} واد بين المدينة والشام وهم ثمود {المرسلين} بتكذيبهم صالحا تكذيب لباقي الرسل لاشتراكهم في المجيء بالتوحيد.
quran:15:81

And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.  

And We brought them Our signs, by way of the she-camel ˹of Sālih˺, but they were averse ˹to them˺, refusing to reflect on them.
القرآن:١٥:٨١

وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ آيَاتِنَا فَكَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ  

{وآتيناهم آياتنا} في الناقة {فكانوا عنها معرضين} لا يتفكرون فيها.
quran:15:82

And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.  

And they used to hew out dwellings from the mountains, feeling secure.
القرآن:١٥:٨٢

وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ  

{وكانوا ينحتون من الجبال بيوتا آمنين}.
quran:15:83

But the shriek seized them at early morning.  

But the Cry seized them in the morning.
القرآن:١٥:٨٣

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ  

{فأخذتهم الصيحة مصبحين} وقت الصباح.
quran:15:84

So nothing availed them ˹from˺ what they used to earn.  

And so that which they used to count as gain, in the way of building fortresses and amassing riches, did not avail, ˹did not˺ protect, them, from the chastisement.
القرآن:١٥:٨٤

فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ  

{فما أغنى} دفع {عنهم} العذاب {ما كانوا يكسبون} من بناء الحصون وجمع الأموال.
quran:15:85

And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.  

We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them save with the Truth. And truly the Hour shall come, without doubt, whereupon every person will be requited according to his deeds. So be forgiving, O Muhammad (s), to your people, with gracious forgiveness: turn away from them without ˹any feeling of˺ anxiety — this was abrogated by the ‘sword’ verse ˹Q. 9:5˺.
القرآن:١٥:٨٥

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَآتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ  

{وما خلقنا السماوات والأرض وما بينهما إلا بالحق وإن الساعة لآتية} لا محالة فيجازى كل أحد بعمله {فاصفح} يا محمد عن قومك {الصفح الجميل} أعرض عنهم إعراضا لا جزع فيه وهذا منسوخ بآية السيف.
quran:15:86

Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.  

Truly your Lord, He is the Creator, of everything, the Knowing, of everything.
القرآن:١٥:٨٦

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْخَلَّاقُ الْعَلِيمُ  

{إن ربك هو الخلاق} لكل شيء {العليم} بكل شيء.
quran:15:87

And We have certainly given you, ˹O Muhammad˺, seven of the often repeated ˹verses˺ and the great Qur'an.  

And verily We have given you seven of the oft-repeated ˹verses˺ — the Prophet (s) said that this meant ˹sūrat˺ al-Fātiha, as reported by the two Shaykhs ˹Bukhārī and Muslim˺, since it is repeated in every unit of prayer (rak‘a) — and the great Qur’ān.
القرآن:١٥:٨٧

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ  

{ولقد آتيناك سبعا من المثاني} قال ﷺ هي الفاتحة رواه الشيخان لأنها تثنى في كل ركعة {والقرآن العظيم}.
quran:15:88

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to ˹certain˺ categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers  

Do not extend your glance toward that which We have given different groups of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, should they not believe, and lower your wing, temper your nature, for the believers.
القرآن:١٥:٨٨

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجًا مِنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ  

{لا تمدّن عينيك إلى ما متعنا به أزواجا} أصنافا {منهم ولا تحزن عليهم} إن لم يؤمنوا {واخفض جناحك} ألن جانبك {للمؤمنين}.
quran:15:89

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -  

And say: ‘Indeed, I am the warner, of God’s chastisement, lest it be sent down on you, the clear ˹warner˺, clear in ˹his˺ warning.
القرآن:١٥:٨٩

وَقُلْ إِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْمُبِينُ  

{وقل إني أنا النذير} من عذاب الله أن ينزل عليكم {المبين} البين الإنذار.
quran:15:90

Just as We had revealed ˹scriptures˺ to the separators  

Even as We sent down, chastisement, on those who make division, the Jews and the Christians,
القرآن:١٥:٩٠

كَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ  

{كما أنزلنا} العذاب {على المقتسمين} اليهود والنصارى.
quran:15:91

Who have made the Qur'an into portions.  

those who have reduced the Recitation, namely, those scriptures revealed to them, to parts, believing in some and disbelieving in others. It is ˹alternatively˺ said that the individuals meant here were those who ‘divided up’ among themselves the roads to Mecca, barring people from Islam. Some of them said that the Qur’ān was sorcery, some that it was soothsaying, and others that it was poetry.
القرآن:١٥:٩١

الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عِضِينَ  

{الذين جعلوا القرآن} أي كتبهم المنزلة عليهم {عضين} أجزاء، حيث آمنوا ببعض وكفروا ببعض، وقيل المراد بهم الذين اقتسموا طرق مكة يصدون الناس عن الإسلام، وقال بعضهم في القرآن سحر وبعضهم كهانة وبعضهم شعر.
quran:15:92

So by your Lord, We will surely question them all  

By your Lord, We shall question them all — a questioning involving rebuke —
القرآن:١٥:٩٢

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ  

{فوربك لنسألنهم أجمعين} سؤال توبيخ.
quran:15:94

Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.  

So proclaim, O Muhammad (s), what you have been commanded, to ˹proclaim˺, in other words, declare it openly and carry it out, and turn away from the idolaters — this was ˹revealed˺ before the command to struggle ˹against the idolaters˺.
القرآن:١٥:٩٤

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ  

{فاصدع} يا محمد {بما تؤمر} به أي اجهر به وأمضه {وأعرض عن المشركين} هذا قبل الأمر بالجهاد.
quran:15:95

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers  

Indeed We have sufficed you against the mockers, ˹who mocked˺ you, by Our having destroyed each one of them through some harm, and these were: al-Walīd b. al-Mughīra, al-‘Āsī b. Wā’il, ‘Udayy b. Qays, al-Aswad b. al-Muttalib and al-Aswad b. ‘Abd Yaghūth,
القرآن:١٥:٩٥

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ  

{إنا كفيناك المستهزئين} بك بإهلاكنا كلا بآفة وهم الوليد بن المغيرة والعاص بن وائل وعدي بن قيس والأسود بن المطلب والأسود بن عبد يغوث.
quran:15:96

Who make ˹equal˺ with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.  

those ˹mockers˺ who set up besides God another god: (this ˹entire clause˺ is an adjectival qualification; but it is also said to be the subject, and because there is an implicit conditional meaning ˹in the abovementioned clause˺, the ˹particle˺ fā’ has been inserted into the predicate, which is ˹the following˺) soon they will know, the sequel of their affair.
القرآن:١٥:٩٦

الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ  

{الذين يجعلون مع الله إلها آخر} صفة وقيل مبتدأ ولتضمنه معنى الشرط دخلت الفاء في خبره وهو {فسوف يعلمون} عاقبة أمرهم.
quran:15:97

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.  

And verily (wa-laqad is for confirmation) We know that your breast is ˹at times˺ oppressed by what they say, in the way of mockery and denial.
القرآن:١٥:٩٧

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ  

{ولقد} للتحقيق {نعلم أنك يضيق صدرك بما يقولون} من الاستهزاء والتكذيب.
quran:15:98

So exalt ˹Allah˺ with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate ˹to Him˺.  

So glorify, intimately ˹repeating˺, the praise of your Lord, in other words, say subhāna’Llāhi wa-bi-hamdihi — and be of those who prostrate themselves, those who pray;
القرآن:١٥:٩٨

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ  

{فسبح} ملتبسا {بحمد ربك} أي قل سبحان الله وبحمده {وكن من الساجدين} المصلين.
quran:15:99

And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).  

and worship your Lord until Certainty — Death — comes to you. Meccan, except for the last three verses, which are Medinese; it consists of 128 verses, revealed after ˹sūrat˺ al-Kahf.
القرآن:١٥:٩٩

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ  

{واعبد ربك حتى يأتيك اليقين} الموت.
