15. Sūrat al-Ḥijr

١٥۔ سُورَةُ الحِجْر

15.10 Proclaim the commandments of God publicly and turn away from the polytheists.

١٥۔١٠ مقطع في سُورَةُ الحِجْر

quran:15:94

Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.  

So proclaim, O Muhammad (s), what you have been commanded, to ˹proclaim˺, in other words, declare it openly and carry it out, and turn away from the idolaters — this was ˹revealed˺ before the command to struggle ˹against the idolaters˺.
القرآن:١٥:٩٤

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ  

{فاصدع} يا محمد {بما تؤمر} به أي اجهر به وأمضه {وأعرض عن المشركين} هذا قبل الأمر بالجهاد.
quran:15:95

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers  

Indeed We have sufficed you against the mockers, ˹who mocked˺ you, by Our having destroyed each one of them through some harm, and these were: al-Walīd b. al-Mughīra, al-‘Āsī b. Wā’il, ‘Udayy b. Qays, al-Aswad b. al-Muttalib and al-Aswad b. ‘Abd Yaghūth,
القرآن:١٥:٩٥

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ  

{إنا كفيناك المستهزئين} بك بإهلاكنا كلا بآفة وهم الوليد بن المغيرة والعاص بن وائل وعدي بن قيس والأسود بن المطلب والأسود بن عبد يغوث.
quran:15:96

Who make ˹equal˺ with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.  

those ˹mockers˺ who set up besides God another god: (this ˹entire clause˺ is an adjectival qualification; but it is also said to be the subject, and because there is an implicit conditional meaning ˹in the abovementioned clause˺, the ˹particle˺ fā’ has been inserted into the predicate, which is ˹the following˺) soon they will know, the sequel of their affair.
القرآن:١٥:٩٦

الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ  

{الذين يجعلون مع الله إلها آخر} صفة وقيل مبتدأ ولتضمنه معنى الشرط دخلت الفاء في خبره وهو {فسوف يعلمون} عاقبة أمرهم.
quran:15:97

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.  

And verily (wa-laqad is for confirmation) We know that your breast is ˹at times˺ oppressed by what they say, in the way of mockery and denial.
القرآن:١٥:٩٧

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ  

{ولقد} للتحقيق {نعلم أنك يضيق صدرك بما يقولون} من الاستهزاء والتكذيب.
quran:15:98

So exalt ˹Allah˺ with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate ˹to Him˺.  

So glorify, intimately ˹repeating˺, the praise of your Lord, in other words, say subhāna’Llāhi wa-bi-hamdihi — and be of those who prostrate themselves, those who pray;
القرآن:١٥:٩٨

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ  

{فسبح} ملتبسا {بحمد ربك} أي قل سبحان الله وبحمده {وكن من الساجدين} المصلين.
quran:15:99

And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).  

and worship your Lord until Certainty — Death — comes to you. Meccan, except for the last three verses, which are Medinese; it consists of 128 verses, revealed after ˹sūrat˺ al-Kahf.
القرآن:١٥:٩٩

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ  

{واعبد ربك حتى يأتيك اليقين} الموت.
