We were with Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the sun eclipsed. Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up dragging his cloak till he entered the Mosque. In the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the sun eclipsed and he went out dragging his clothes till he reached the Mosque. The people gathered around him and he led them and offered two rakʿat. When the sun (eclipse) cleared, he said, "The sun and the moon are two signs amongst the signs of Allah; they do not eclipse because of the death of someone, and so when an eclipse occurs, pray and invoke Allah till the eclipse is over." It happened that a son of the Prophet ﷺ called Ibrahim died on that day and the people were talking about that (saying that the eclipse was caused by his death).

Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah by which He frightens his servants and they do not eclipse on account of the death of any one of the people. So when you see anything about them, observe prayer, supplicate Allah till it is cleared from you.

[AI] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the sun was eclipsed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out dragging his cloak until he reached the mosque and the people gathered. He led us in two units of prayer. When the eclipse was over, he said, "Verily, the sun and moon are two signs from the signs of Allah. Allah causes fear to His servants by them, and they do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. So when you see that, pray until what is bothering you is relieved." He added, "And that is because his son died, and it was said to him, 'Ibrahim.'" Some people said regarding that matter...

suyuti:5610a

Verily the sun and the moon are the two signs among the signs of Allah by which He frightens his servants and they do not eclipse on account of the death of any one of the people. So when you see anything about them, observe prayer, supplicate Allah till it is cleared from you. (Using translation from Muslim 911a)
