2. Book of Ṣalāh (6/9)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ disliked to sleep before the ʿIsha' prayer and to talk after it. (Using translation from Bukhārī 568)
2.140 [Machine] Prohibition of an idolater entering the sacred mosque
"I came with Ali bin Abi Talib when the Messenger of Allah sent him to the people of Makkah with news of the dissolution of treaty obligations." He said: "How did you announced that no one would enter Paradise but a believing soul, no one was to circumambulate the House naked: whoever had a treaty with the Messenger of Allah, then for its period, or, it extended to four months, and when four months had passed, and that Allah is free from (all) obligations to the idolaters and so is His Messenger. No idolater was to perform Hajj after this year. I kept on announcing it until my vice grew hoarse." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2958)
2.141 [Machine] When is the boy commanded to pray?
Messenger of Allah (S) said: "Teach the boy Salat when he is seven years old, and beat him (if he does not pray) when he is ten." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 407)
2.142 [Machine] What time is prayer hated?
There were three times at which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid us to pray or bury our dead - when the sun begins to rise till it is fully up, when the sun is at its height midway till it passes the meridian, and when the sun draws near to setting till it sets, or as he said. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3192)
Some reliable people testified before me, and among them was Umar ibn al-Khattab, and most reliable in my eyes was Umar: The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: There is no prayer after the dawn prayer until the sun rises; and there is no prayer after the 'Asr prayer until the sun sets. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1276)
2.143 [Machine] In the two units after Asr
[Machine] "She testified concerning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he never missed performing these two units of prayer except after Asr (afternoon prayer)."
[Machine] The translation of the given Arabic sentence into English is: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never left the two Rak'ahs (units of prayer) after Asr (the afternoon prayer) ever."
I along with 'Umar b. al-Khattab dissuaded people to do so (to observe two rak'ahs of prayer). Kuraib said: I went to her ('A'isha) and conveyed to her the message with which I was sent. She said: (Better) ask Umm Salama. So I went to them (those who had sent him to Hadrat 'A'isha) and informed them about what she had said. They sent me back to Umm Salama with that with which I was sent to 'A'isha. Umm Salama said: I beard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting them, and then afterwards I saw him observing them. And when he observed them (two rak'ahs) he had already observed the 'Asr prayer. Then he (the Holy Prophet) came, while there were with me ladies of Banu Haram, a tribe of the Ansar and he (the Holy Prophet) observed them (the two rak'ahs). I sent a slave-girl to him asking her to stand by his side and say to him that Umm Salama says: Messenger of Allah, I heard you prohibiting these two rak'ahs, whereas I saw you observing them; and if he (the Holy Prophet) points with his hand (to wait), then do wait. The slave-girl did like that. He (the Holy Prophet) pointed out with his hand and she got aside and waited, and when he had finished (the prayer) he said: Daughter of Abu Umayya. you have asked about the two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer. Some people of 'Abu al-Qais came to me for embracing Islam and hindered me from observing the two rak'ahs which come after the noon prayer. So those are the two I have been praying. (Using translation from Muslim 834)

2.144 [Machine] In the Sunnah prayer
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would pray two rak'ahs before and two after the noon prayer, two after the sunset prayer in his house, and two after the night prayer. He would not pray after the Friday prayer till he departed. He would then pray two rak'ahs. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1252)
[Machine] From Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , she narrated that she heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "There is no Muslim servant who prays twelve voluntary Rak'ahs every day, other than the obligatory prayers, except that Allah will build a house for him in Paradise or a palace in Paradise." Umm Habibah said, "I have never ceased praying them after I heard this." 'Amr ibn Salamah said the same, and Nu'man said the same.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to not leave four (supererogatory units) before noon and two units before dawn.
2.145 [Machine] The Two Units of Prayer Before Maghrib.
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Between each two Adhans [1] there is a prayer, between each two Adhans there is a prayer, between each two Adhans there is a prayer, for whoever wants to do it." [1]Meaning, between the Adhan and Iqamah. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 681)
[Machine] "The muezzin used to call the prayer for Maghrib during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would gather at the door. They would line up until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would come out, and they would be in that state." He said, and he did not stay for long.
2.146 [Machine] Reading in the two units of Fajr.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to hide what he would recite in them, and he mentioned, "Say, O disbelievers" [Surah Al-Kafirun 1] and "Say, He is Allah, [who is] One" [Surah Al-Ikhlas 1]. Sa'id said in the two units of Fajr prayer.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray two quick prostrations after the break of dawn, which was a time when he would not enter upon the Prophet ﷺ.
that when the Muaddhin fell silent following the call to Subh prayer and dawn had broken, he would pray two brief rak'ahs before getting up to pray. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1773)
Salim narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe two rak'ahs after Jumu'a. (Using translation from Muslim 882c)

"When Messenger of Allah (S) prayed the two Rak'ah (before) Fajr if he needed something from me he would talk to me, if not, he would go to Salat." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 418)
2.148 [Machine] In reclining after the two units of dawn prayer
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray from the evening (Isha) prayer until the dawn (Fajr) prayer eleven voluntary units (raka'at), and he would conclude every two units with the Tasleem (saying Assalamu Alaikum). He would perform the Witr prayer with one unit. When the Mu'athin finished the Adhan, he would perform two light units (raka'at), then lie down until the Mu'athin comes to him and he would go out with him.
2.149 [Machine] If the prayer is established, then there is no prayer except the obligatory.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺas saying: When the iqamah is pronounced for prayer, no prayer is valid except the obligatory prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1266)
This tradition has also been narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah through a different chain. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 99)
[Machine] The translation is: The prayer was established, and the Prophet ﷺ saw a man praying two units of prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, the people approached him and said: "Do you pray four units for the Fajr prayer?"
[Machine] Regarding the Prophet ﷺ , he said, "When the prayer is established, there is no prayer except the obligatory prayer." Abu Muhammad said, "If he is in his house, then the house is easier."

None informed us that he saw the Prophet ﷺ offering the Duha (i.e. forenoon) prayer, except Um Hani who mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ took a bath in her house on the day of the Conquest (of Mecca) and then offered an eight rakʿat prayer. She added, "I never saw the Prophet ﷺ offering a lighter prayer than that prayer, but he was performing perfect bowing and prostrations." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4292)
[Machine] He informed him that he heard Umm Haneen, the daughter of Abu Talib, saying that she went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of the conquest and found him performing ablution, and his daughter Fatimah covered him with a garment. Umm Haneen said, "I greeted him and it was in the morning." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who is this?" I said, "I am Umm Haneen." When he finished his ablution, he stood up and prayed eight rak'ahs, wrapped in one garment, then he departed. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my son claims that he killed a man who you had hired, Fulan bin Hubayrah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We have indeed rewarded those whom you have rewarded, O Umm Haneen."

A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the prayer at night. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears the morning is near he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1326)

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived in Medina, people gathered and said, "The Messenger of Allah has arrived, the Messenger of Allah has arrived." He said, "So I went out with those who went out, and when I saw his face, I recognized that his face was not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was, 'O people, spread peace, feed the hungry, maintain family ties, and pray while people are asleep so that you may enter Paradise in peace.'"

[Machine] I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw a man who was frequently performing bowing and prostration. I said to myself, "I will not leave until I see whether he moves to the next two cycles of prayer or continues with another one." When he finished, I said, "O Abdullah, did you move to the next two cycles of prayer or continue with another one?" He replied, "Truly, I do not know. But indeed, Allah knows." Then he said, "I have heard my beloved friend, Abu Al-Qasim ﷺ , say, 'Whenever a servant prostrates to Allah, Allah elevates him by a degree and removes a sin from him.'" I asked, "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said, "I am Abu Dhar." At that moment, I lost consciousness.

2.165 [Machine] The Characteristics of the Prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
Between the time when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the night prayer till the dawn broke, he used to pray eleven rak'ahs, uttering the salutation at the end of every two and observing the witr with a single one, and during that he would make a prostration about as long a one of you would take to recite fifty verses before raising his head. When the mu'adhdhin finished making the call for the dawn prayer, he stood up and prayed two short rak'ahs, then he lay down on his right side till the mu'adhdhin came to him (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1336)
He asked Aishah about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at night. She said: "He used to pray thirteen rak'ahs. He would pray eight rak'ahs then pray witr, then pray two rak'ahs sitting down. When he wanted to bow he would stand and bow, and he prayed two rak'ahs between the adhan and iqamah of subh prayer. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1781)
I divorced my wife. I then came to Medina to sell my land that was there so that I could buy arms and fight in battle. I met a group of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Six persons of us intended to do so (i.e. divorce their wives and purchase weapons), but the Prophet ﷺ prohibited them. He said: For you in the Messenger of Allah there is an excellent model. I then came to Ibn 'Abbas and asked him about the witr observed by the Prophet ﷺ. He said: I point to you a person who is most familiar with the witr observed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Go to 'Aishah. While going to her I asked Hakim b. Aflah to accompany me. He refused, but I adjured him. He, therefore, went along with me. We sought permission to enter upon 'Aishah. She said: Who is this ? He said: Hakim b. Aflah. She asked: Who is with you ? He replied: Sa'd b. Hisham. She said: Hisham son of 'Amir who was killed in the Battle of Uhud. I said: Yes. She said: What a good man 'Amir was! I said: Mother of faithful, tell me about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She asked: Do you not recite the Quran ? The character of Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the Qur'an. I asked: Tell me about his vigil and prayer at night. She replied: Do you not recite: "O thou folded in garments" (73:1). I said: Why not ? When the opening of this Surah was revealed, the Companions stood praying (most of the night) until their fett swelled, and the concluding verses were not revealed for twelve months from heaven. At last the concluding verses were revealed and the prayer at night became voluntary after it was obligatory. I said: Tell me about the witr of the Prophet ﷺ. She replied: He used to pray eight rak'ahs, sitting only during the eighth of them. Then he would stand up and pray another rak'ahs. He would sit only after the eighth and the ninth rak'ahs. He would utter salutation only after the ninth rak'ah. He would then pray two rak'ahs sitting and that made eleven rak'ahs, O my son. But when he grew old and became fleshy he observed a witr of seven, sitting only in sixth and seventh rak'ahs, and would utter salutation only after the seventh rak'ah. He would then pray two rak'ahs sitting, and that made nine rak'ahs, O my son. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not pray through a whole night, or recite the whole Qur'an in a night or fast a complete month except in Ramadan. When he offered prayer, he would do that regularly. When he was overtaken by sleep at night, he would pray twelve rak'ahs. The narrator said: I came to Ibn 'Abbas and narrated all this to him. By Allah, this is really a tradition. Has I been on speaking terms with her, I would have come to her and heard it from her mouth. I said: If I knew that you were not on speaking terms with her, I would have never narrated it to you. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1342)
