[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave us a speech and said, "Give in charity, O women, for you will be the majority of the inhabitants of Hell on the Day of Resurrection." Then a woman who was not from the prominent families of women stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, why are we the majority of the inhabitants of Hell?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Because you curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands."

خَطَبَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لِمَ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O women, give charity even from your ornaments, for indeed you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection." A woman from the audience who was not from the elite of women stood up and asked, "Why are we the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection?" He replied, "Because you curse frequently and you show ingratitude towards your husbands."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَتْ بِمَ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُأَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O women, give charity, even if it is from your jewelry, for indeed you are the majority of the inhabitants of the Fire." So a woman who was not from the upper class of women stood up and asked: "Why do you say so, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Because you women are excessive in cursing and ungrateful to your husbands."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَتْ لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out on the day of the breaking of the fast and prayed two rak'ahs, before and after which he did not pray. He then went to women, taking Bilal with him, and commanded them to given alms. So one began to put her ear-ring and another her necklace (in the garment of Bilal). خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي فِطْرٍ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَهَا وَلا بَعْدَهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلالٌ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي خُرْصَهَا وَسِخَابَهَا

[Machine] "He witnessed regarding Ibn Abbas and Ibn Abbas witnessed regarding the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he prayed on the day of Eid, then delivered a sermon, then came to the women and commanded them to give charity, so they began throwing it."

أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ شَهِدَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلْنَ يُلْقِينَ

[Machine] I witnessed the Prophet ﷺ praying on the day of Eid, and then he delivered a sermon. He thought that the women did not hear him, so he called for them and advised them, saying: "Give in charity." So a woman started throwing her ring, bracelet, and belongings. Then he ordered Bilal to collect them in a cloth until he finished.

شَهِدْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَاهُنَّ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخَاتَمَ وَالْخُرْصَ وَالشَّيْءَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِلالًا فَجَمَعَهُ فِي ثَوْبٍ حَتَّى أَمْضَاهُ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ يَوْمَ أَضْحَى أَوْ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ قَالَ وَأَكْبَرُ ظَنِّي أَنَّهُ قَالَ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَهُمَا وَلَا بَعْدَهُمَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي خُرْصَهَا وَسِخَابَهَا وَلَمْ يَشُكَّ بَهْزٌ قَالَ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ وَقَالَ صِخَابَهَا

“I heard Ibn ‘Abbas say: ‘I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed before the sermon, then he delivered the sermon. And he thought that the women had not heard, so he went over to them and reminded them (of Allah) and preached to them and enjoined them to give in charity, and Bilal was spreading his hands like this, and the women started giving their earrings, rings and things.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1273)

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَرَأَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَاهُنَّ فَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخُرْصَ وَالْخَاتَمَ وَالشَّيْءَ

[Machine] I testify that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed before the sermon and then delivered the sermon. It seems that he did not hear the women, so he went to them with Bilal, spreading his robe, and advised them and commanded them to give charity. The woman then started throwing jewelry, and Ayoub pointed to his ear and his neck as if he wanted a ring or necklace.

أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَيَرَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَاهُنَّ وَمَعَهُ بِلالٌ نَاشِرًا ثَوْبَهُ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي وَأَشَارَ أَيُّوبُ إِلَى أُذُنِهِ وَإِلَى حَلْقِهِ كَأَنَّهُ يُرِيدُ التُّومَةَ وَالْقِلادَةَ

"I attended the prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of 'Eid. He started with the prayer before the Khutbah, with no Adhan and no Iqamah. When he finished the prayer, he stood leaning on Bilal, and he praised and glorified Allah (SWT) and exhorted the people, reminding them and urging them to obey Allah (SWT). Then he moved away and went to the women, and Bilal was with him. He commanded them to fear Allah (SWT) and exhorted them and reminded them. He praised and glorified Allah, then he urged them to obey Allah, then he said: 'Give charity, for most of you are the fuel of Hell.' A lowly woman with dark cheeks said: 'Why, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'You complain a great deal and are ungrateful to your husbands.' They started taking off their necklaces, earrings and rings, throwing them into Bilal's garment, giving them in charity." شَهِدْتُ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَوَعَظَ النَّاسَ وَذَكَّرَهُمْ وَحَثَّهُمْ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ ثُمَّ مَضَى إِلَى النِّسَاءِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَحَثَّهُنَّ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ سَفَلَةِ النِّسَاءِ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ الشَّكَاةَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ فَجَعَلْنَ يَنْزِعْنَ حُلِيَّهُنَّ وَقَلَائِدَهُنَّ وَقِرَطَتَهُنَّ وَخَوَاتِيمَهُنَّ يَقْذِفْنَ بِهِ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in prayer on the two Eid days without adhan and iqamah, then he delivered a sermon. After that, he went towards the women, accompanied by Bilal who was the only one with him. He instructed them to give charity, so the woman would throw her earrings and rings to Bilal.

صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ ثُمَّ خَطَبَنَا ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَمَشَى إِلَىالنِّسَاءِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي تُومَتَهَا وَخَاتَمَهَا إِلَى بِلَالٍ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ began praying before the sermon on the two Eids without the call to prayer or the call to establish prayer. He then addressed the men while leaning on a bow. He then went to the women and addressed them, urging them to give charity. He said that they began to throw their bracelets, rings, and jewelry to Bilal. He said the Prophet did not pray before or after the prayer.

بَدَأَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ الرِّجَالَ وَهُوَ مُتَوَكِّئٌ عَلَى قَوْسٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَخَطَبَهُنَّ وَحَثَّهُنَّ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ قَالَ فَجَعَلْنَ يَطْرَحْنَ الْقِرَطَةَ وَالْخَوَاتِيمَ وَالْحُلِيَّ إِلَى بِلَالٍ قَالَ وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ وَلَا بَعْدَهَا

The Prophet ﷺ stood on the day of the breaking of the fast ('Id) and offered prayer. He began the prayer before the sermon. He then addressed the people. When the Prophet ﷺ finished the sermon, he descended (from the pulpit) and went to women. He gave them an exhortation while he was leaning on the hand of Bilal. Bilal was spreading his garment in which women were putting alms; some women put their rings and others other things. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1141)

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَامَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ نَزَلَ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَهُوَ يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَى يَدِ بِلَالٍ وَبِلَالٌ بَاسِطٌ ثَوْبَهُ يُلْقِينَ فِيهِ النِّسَاءُ صَدَقَةً قَالَ تُلْقِي الْمَرْأَةُ فَتْخَهَا وَيُلْقِينَ وَيُلْقِينَ قَالَ ابْنُ بَكْرٍ فَتْخَتَهَا

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ : "O women, give charity, for you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman asked: "Why are we the majority of the inhabitants of Hell?" He replied: "Because you curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ وَمَا لَنَا أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ

[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , he said to the women, "Give in charity, for you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman who was not from the noblest or wisest among them asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why is that? What is the reason?" He replied, "Verily, you [women] curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لِلنِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ أَوْ مِنْ أَعْقَلِهِنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فِيمَ؟ أَوْ لِمَ؟ أَوْ بِمَ؟ قَالَ إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ

“O women, give in charity and pray a great deal for forgiveness, for I have seen that you form the majority of the people of Hell.” A woman who was very wise said: “Why is it, O Messenger of Allah, that we form the majority of the people of Hell?” He said: “You curse a great deal and you are ungrateful to your husbands, and I have never seen anyone lacking in discernment and religion more overwhelming to a man of wisdom than you.” She said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is lacking in our discernment and our religion?” He said: “As for the lack of discernment it is the fact that the testimony of two women is equal to the testimony of one man; this is the lack of discernment; and that you spend several nights when you do not pray nor fast in Ramaḍān, and this is the lack in religion.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ وَأَكْثِرْنَ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُكُنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ لِكَثْرَةِ اللَّعْنِ وَكُفْرِ الْعَشِيرِ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَدِينٍ أَغْلَبَ لِذِي لُبٍّ مِنْكُنَّ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا نُقْصَانُ الْعَقْلِ وَالدِّينِ؟ قَالَ أَمَّا نُقْصَانُ الْعَقْلِ وَالدِّينِ فَشَهَادَةُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ تَعْدِلُ شَهَادَةَ رَجُلٍ فَهَذَا نُقْصَانُ الْعَقْلِ وَتَمْكُثُ اللَّيَالِيَ لَا تُصَلِّي وَتُفْطِرُ فِي رَمَضَانَ فَهَذَا نُقْصَانُ الدِّينِ

[Machine] I witnessed praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Eid. He began praying before giving the sermon, then stood leaning on Bilal until he reached the women. He gave them a sermon, reminded them, and commanded them to fear Allah. He said, "Give charity." Then he mentioned something about the matter of Hellfire, and a woman from the lower class of women stood up, her face reddened. She said, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Because you women spread gossip and curse, and you deny kinship." Then they began taking off their jewelry and earrings and throwing them in the garment of Bilal, giving it as charity.

شَهِدْتُ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ قَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ حَتَّى أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ قَالَ «تَصَدَّقْنَ» فَذَكَرَ شَيْئًا مِنْ أَمْرِ جَهَنَّمَ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ سَفِلَةِ النِّسَاءِ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُفْشِينَ الشَّكَاةَ وَاللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ» فَجَعَلْنَ يَأْخُذْنَ مِنْ حُلِيِّهِنَّ وَأَقْرَاطِهِنَّ وَخَوَاتِيمِهِنَّ يَطْرَحْنَهُ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O women, give in charity, even from your jewelry, for indeed you comprise the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman who was not among the elite women asked, "Why are we the majority of the inhabitants of Hell, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because you curse frequently and show ingratitude towards your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religious commitment than you. A wise man could be led astray by some of you." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the deficiency in our intelligence and religious commitment?" He said, "As for the deficiency in intelligence, the testimony of two women is equal to that of one man. As for the deficiency in religious commitment, one of you may stay without praying for many days and nights, not prostrating to Allah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ» فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ وَبِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَمَا وُجِدَ مِنْ نَاقِصِ الدِّينِ وَالرَّأْيِ أَغْلَبَ لِلرِّجَالِ ذَوِي الْأَمْرِ عَلَى أُمُورِهِمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ» قَالُوا وَمَا نَقْصُ دِينِهِنَّ وَرَأْيِهِنَّ؟ قَالَ «أَمَّا نَقْصُ رَأْيِهِنَّ فَجُعِلَتْ شَهَادَةُ امْرَأَتَيْنِ بِشَهَادَةِ رَجُلٍ وَأَمَّا نَقْصُ دِينِهِنَّ فَإِنَّ إِحْدَاهُنَّ تَقْعُدُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنْ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ لَا تَسْجُدُ لِلَّهِ سَجْدَةً»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O women, give charity even from your adornments, for you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman who was not from the elite of women asked, "Why are we the majority of the inhabitants of Hell, O Messenger of Allah?" قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ» فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ وَبِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ جَهَنَّمَ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَمَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَدِينٍ أَغْلَبَ لِلُبِّ الرَّجُلِ مِنْكُنَّ»

[Machine] "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Or Ata' said, 'I bear witness that Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophetﷺ went out on the day of Eid with his companions, performed prayer, then gave a sermon. He then came to the women and commanded them to give charity, and they began to throw it.'"

أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ عَطَاءٌ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «خَرَجَ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلْنَ يُلْقِينَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the women to give charity and encouraged them to do so. He said, "Give charity, for indeed you (women) are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman among them asked, "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because you (women) curse often, are ungrateful for kindness, and deny the good treatment of your husbands."

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ النِّسَاءَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَحَثَّهُنَّ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ «تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ بِمَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتُسَوِّفْنَ الْخَيْرَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ»

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ once addressed women and gave them a sermon, commanding them to fear Allah and obey their husbands. He said, "Certainly, among you are those who will enter Paradise, joining their fingers together, and among you are those who will be fuel for Hell, separating their fingers." The women of Maridiya or Muradiya asked, "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You belittle your husbands, curse frequently, and are ungrateful for goodness."

خَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ النِّسَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ وَقَالَ «إِنَّ مِنْكُنَّ مَنْ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ وَمِنْكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ وَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ» فَقَالَتِ الْمَارِدِيَّةُ أَوِ الْمُرَادِيَّةُ وَلِمَ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَتُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتُسَوِّفْنَ الْخَيْرَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on the day of Aḍḥa or ʿĪd to the prayer ground and performed the prayer, then he left and stood up to address the people and commanded them with charity. He said, "O people, give charity." Then he left and passed by the women and said, "O group of women, give charity, for I have seen that you are the majority of the people of Hellfire." They asked, "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religious commitment than you. A cautious wise man may be led astray by some of you." They asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what is deficient in our intelligence and religious commitment?" He said, "Is not the testimony of a woman equivalent to half of that of a man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is due to the deficiency in her intelligence. Is it not true that when a woman menstruates, she does not pray nor fast?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is due to the deficiency in her religion." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left and when he reached his house, Zainab, the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud sought permission to see him. They said, "O Messenger of Allah, here is Zainab seeking permission to see you." He asked, "Which Zainab?" They replied, "The wife of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud." He said, "Grant her permission." So they allowed her to enter and she said, "O Prophet of Allah, you commanded us today to give charity and I had adornments with me that I wanted to give in charity. However, Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and his children claim that they have more right to receive my charity." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give charity to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and his children."

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي أَضْحًى أَوْ فِطْرٍ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَقَامَ فَوَعَظَ النَّاسَ وَأَمَرَهُمْ بِالصَّدَقَةِ قَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تَصَدَّقُوا» ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنِّي أَرَاكُنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» فَقُلْنَ وَلِمَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنَ نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَدِينٍ أَذْهَبَ لِلُبِّ الرَّجُلِ الْحَازِمِ مِنْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ» فَقُلْنَ لَهُ مَا نُقْصَانُ دِينِنَا وَعَقْلِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ «أَلَيْسَ شَهَادَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ مِثْلَ نِصْفِ شَهَادَةِ الرَّجُلِ»؟ قُلْنَ بَلَى قَالَ «فَذَاكَ نُقْصَانُ عَقْلِهَا أَوَ لَيْسَتْ إِذَا حَاضَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَمْ تُصَلِّ وَلَمْ تَصُمْ»؟ قُلْنَ بَلَى قَالَ «فَذَاكَ نُقْصَانُ دِينِهَا» ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا صَارَ إِلَى مَنْزِلِهِ جَاءَتْ زَيْنَبُ امْرَأَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ تَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَيْهِ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ هَذِهِ زَيْنَبُ تَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ «أَيُّ الزَّيَانِبِ»؟ قِيلَ امْرَأَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ «نَعَمْ ائْذَنُوا لَهَا» فَأُذِنَ لَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ أَمَرْتَنَا الْيَوْمَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَكَانَ عِنْدِي حُلِيٌّ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ فَزَعَمَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ وَوَلَدَهُ أَحَقُّ مَنْ تَصَدَّقَتْ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «صَدَقَ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ once gave a sermon to women and advised them to fear Allah and obey their husbands. He said, "Among you, some will enter Paradise while joining their fingers, and others will enter Hell while separating their fingers." The women asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why is that?" He replied, "You curse frequently, and you are ungrateful and show ingratitude for the good done to you."

خَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ النِّسَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ وَقَالَ «إِنَّ مِنْكُنَّ مَنْ تَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ وَمِنْكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ وَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ » فَقَالَتِ الْمَارِدَةُ أَوِ الْمُرَادِيَّةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَلِمَ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «تَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَتُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتُسَوِّفْنَ الْخَيْرَ» *

[Machine] Ibn Abbas witnessed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed on the day of Eid, then delivered a sermon, and then went to the women and commanded them to give charity.

«أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ شَهِدَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ»

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, it is narrated that he said to the women, "Give charity, for indeed you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman who was not from a high-class background asked, "Why is that so, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands." Abdullah said, "The deficiency in intelligence and religion is most prevalent among men who have authority over their women." It was asked, "And what is the deficiency in her intelligence and religion?" He said, "As for the deficiency in her intelligence, the testimony of two women is equal to the testimony of one man. And as for the deficiency in her religion, it is that on some days, she does not offer a single prayer."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِلنِّسَاءِ «تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» قَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ بِمَ أَوْ لِمَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ مَا مِنْ نَاقِصَاتِ الْعَقْلِ وَالدَّيْنِ أَغْلَبُ عَلَى الرِّجَالِ ذَوِي الْأَمْرِ عَلَى أَمْرِهِمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ قِيلَ وَمَا نُقْصَانُ عَقْلِهَا وَدِينِهَا؟ قَالَ أَمَّا نُقْصَانُ عَقْلِهَا فَإِنَّ شَهَادَةَ امْرَأَتَيْنِ بِشَهَادَةِ رَجُلٍ وَأَمَّا نُقْصَانُ دِينِهَا فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي عَلَى إِحْدَاهِنَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ لَا تُصَلِّي فِيهِ صَلَاةً وَاحِدَةً»

[Machine] I went, along with Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, and Usama ibn Zaid, on the day of Eid. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also went to the prayer place and prayed with us. Then he delivered a sermon and said, "O people, this is a day of charity, so give in charity." A man started taking off his ring, and another man started taking off his garment. Bilal held on to them, waiting until he didn't see anyone giving anything. Then Bilal approached the women and said, "O women, this is a day of charity, so give in charity." So the women started taking off their bracelets and rings. Bilal held on to them, waiting again until he didn't see anyone giving anything. Then Bilal approached and we all moved forward.

خَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَالْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ وَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَلَّى بِنَا ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمُ صَدَقَةٍ فَتَصَدَّقُوا» قَالَ فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَنْزِعُ خَاتَمَهُ وَالرَّجُلُ يَنْزِعُ ثَوْبَهُ وَبِلَالٌ يَقْبِضُ حَتَّى إِذَا لَمْ يَرَ أَحَدًا يُعْطِي شَيْئًا تَقَدَّمَ إِلَى النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمُ صَدَقَةٍ فَتَصَدَّقْنَ» فَجَعَلْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تَنْزِعُ خُرْصَهَا وَخَاتَمَهَا وَجَعَلْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تَنْزِعُ خُلْخَالَهَا وَبِلَالٌ يَقْبِضُ حَتَّى إِذَا لَمْ يَرَ أَحَدًا يُعْطِي شَيْئًا أَقْبَلَ بِلَالٌ وَأَقْبَلْنَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the women near the side of the mosque, and I was among them. He heard their voices and said, "O group of women, surely you are the majority of the fuel of Hell." So, I called the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and was bold in my speech, and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, why?" He said, "Because you, when you are given something, do not express gratitude, and when you are afflicted with a calamity, you do not have patience. And when you are withheld something, you complain and badmouth." So, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is 'Kufran al-muna'meen'?" He replied, "The woman who is with her husband and has borne for him two or three children, yet she says, 'I have never seen any good from you.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى النِّسَاءِ فِي جَانِبِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا أَنَا مَعَهُنَّ فَسَمِعَ أَصْوَاتَهُنَّ فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ إِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ حَطَبِ جَهَنَّمَ» فَنَادَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَكُنْتُ جَرِيئَةً عَلَى كَلَامِهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمَ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ إِذَا أُعْطِيتُنَّ لَمْ تَشْكُرْنَ وَإِذَا ابْتُلِيتُنَّ لَمْ تَصْبِرْنَ فَإِذَا أُمْسِكَ عَنْكُنَّ شَكَوْتُنَّ وَإِيَّاكُنَّ وَكُفْرَانَ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا كُفْرَانُ الْمُنَعَّمِينَ؟ قَالَ الْمَرْأَةُ تَكُونُ عِنْدَ الرَّجُلِ وَقَدْ وَلَدَتْ لَهُ الْوَلَدَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةِ فَتَقُولُ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ

[Machine] And Ibn Abbas said, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , went out on the day of Eid al-Fitr and performed two units of prayer, then he went to the women and Bilal was with him. He commanded them to give charity, and they began to throw it."

وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ «فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلْنَ يُلْقِينَ»

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ prayed on the day of Eid Al-Fitr and did not pray before or after it, then he went to the women with Bilal, and he commanded them to give charity. So the woman threw her jewelry and her worn-out clothes."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «صَلَّى يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَلَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَهَا وَلَا بَعْدَهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ» فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي خُرْصَهَا وَسِخَابَهَا

[Machine] I went out with the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Eid, and he began praying before the sermon, without calling the adhan or iqamah. Then he rode his mount and delivered a sermon on it. After that, he approached the women and gave a sermon to them and urged them to give charity. He said, "O women, give charity." So, women started throwing their garments, rings, and earrings into Bilal's garment.

خَرَجْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ بِلَا أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ ثُمَّ رَكِبَ رَاحِلَتَهُ فَخَطَبَ عَلَيْهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَخَطَبَهُنَّ وَحَثَّهُنَّ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ فَقَالَ «تَصَدَّقْنَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ فَكَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي ثَوْبَهَا وَخَاتَمَهَا وقُرْطَها» فَجَمَعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى بِلَالٍ فِي ثَوْبِهِ

[Machine] I witnessed Eid with the Prophet ﷺ and he delivered a sermon. He thought that the women hadn't heard, so he called them and advised them, saying, "Give in charity." Then, the women started giving their rings, earrings, necklaces, and even their garments. The Prophet commanded Bilal to collect them in his garment until he distributed them.

شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَخَطَبَ فَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَاهُنَّ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَقَالَ «تَصَدَّقْنَ» فَجَعَلْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخَاتَمَ وَالْقُرْطَ وَالْخُرْصَ وَالشيءَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَجَمَعَهُ فِي ثِيَابِهِ حَتَّى أَمْضَاهُ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ addressed the women one day, admonishing them and commanding them to have taqwa (consciousness) of Allah and obedience to their husbands, and to give in charity. He said, "Indeed, among you are those who will enter Paradise while gathering firewood, and among you are those whose scalp is like the skin of Hell." So he separated between his fingers and said, "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" A woman asked. He said, "Because you curse frequently and show ingratitude to your spouses and you are ungrateful for the good done to you."

خَطَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ النِّسَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِأَزْوَاجِهِنِّ وَأَنْ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ وَقَالَ «وَإِنَّ مِنْكُنَّ مَنْ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ وَجَمَعَ أَصَابِعَهُ وَجُلُّكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ» فَفَرَّقَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَتُسَوِّفْنَ الْخَيْرَ»

"I attended the prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of 'Eid. He started with the prayer before the Khutbah, with no Adhan and no Iqamah. When he finished the prayer, he stood leaning on Bilal, and he praised and glorified Allah (SWT) and exhorted the people, reminding them and urging them to obey Allah (SWT). Then he moved away and went to the women, and Bilal was with him. He commanded them to fear Allah (SWT) and exhorted them and reminded them. He praised and glorified Allah, then he urged them to obey Allah, then he said: 'Give charity, for most of you are the fuel of Hell.' A lowly woman with dark cheeks said: 'Why, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'You complain a great deal and are ungrateful to your husbands.' They started taking off their necklaces, earrings and rings, throwing them into Bilal's garment, giving them in charity." شَهِدْتُ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَوَعَظَ النَّاسَ وَذَكَّرَهُمْ وَحَثَّهُمْ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ ثُمَّ مَضَى إِلَى النِّسَاءِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَرَّهُنَّ وَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ حَثَّهُنَّ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ» فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ سَفِلَةِ النِّسَاءِ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ فَجَعَلْنَ يَنْزِعْنَ حُلِيَّهُنَّ قَلَائِدَهُنَّ وَأَقْرِطَتَهُنَّ وَخَوَاتِيمَهُنَّ يَقْذِفْنَهُ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهِ»

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet, ﷺ , he said, "Women should give in charity, for you (women) are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why is that? In what way? Or for what reason?" He replied, "Because you (women) often curse excessively and are ungrateful to your husbands."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لِلنِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ» فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فِيمَ؟ أَوْ لِمَ؟ أَوْ بِمَ؟ قَالَ «إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ»

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O women, give charity even if it is from your adornments, for indeed you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman not belonging to the noblest of women asked, "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because you curse frequently and are ungrateful to your spouses."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «تَصَدَّقْنَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ فَإِنَّكُنَّ أَكْثَرُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقَالَتِ امْرَأَةٌ لَيْسَتْ مِنْ عِلْيَةِ النِّسَاءِ» وَلِمَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ»

“I heard Ibn ‘Abbas say: ‘I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed before the sermon, then he delivered the sermon. And he thought that the women had not heard, so he went over to them and reminded them (of Allah) and preached to them and enjoined them to give in charity, and Bilal was spreading his hands like this, and the women started giving their earrings, rings and things.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1273)

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ «فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَهُمْ فَرَأَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ قَائِلٌ بِثَوْبِهِ هَكَذَا أَيْ فَاتِحُهُ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخَرْصَ وَالْخَاتَمَ وَالشَّيْءَ»

A person asked Ibn ʿAbbas, "Have you ever presented yourself at the (ʿId) prayer with Allah's Apostle?" He replied, "Yes." And had it not been for my kinship (position) with the Prophet ﷺ it would not have been possible for me to do so (for he was too young). The Prophet ﷺ went to the mark near the house of Kathir bin As-Salt and delivered a sermon. He then went towards the women. He advised and reminded them and asked them to give alms. So the woman would bring her hand near her neck and take off her necklace and put it in the garment of Bilal. Then the Prophet ﷺ and Bilal came to the house." (Using translation from Bukhārī 863)

لَهُ رَجُلٌ شَهِدْتَ الْخُرُوجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ وَلَوْلَا مَكَانِي مِنْهُ مَا شَهِدْتُهُ يَعْنِي مِنْ صِغَرِهِ أَتَى الْعَلَمَ الَّذِي عِنْدَ دَارِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُهْوِي بِيَدِهَا إِلَى يَعْنِي حَلَقِهَا تُلْقِي فِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالِ ثُمَّ أَتَى هُوَ وَبِلَالٌ الْبَيْتَ»

“I heard Ibn ‘Abbas say: ‘I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed before the sermon, then he delivered the sermon. سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ «أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَرَأَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعَ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ قَائِلٌ بِثَوْبِهِ هَكَذَا أَيْ فَاتِحَهُ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخُرْصَ وَالْخَاتَمَ وَالشَّيْءَ»

Once Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of ʿId-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion." (Using translation from Bukhārī 304)

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي أَضْحَى أَوْ فِطْرٍ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَقَامَ فَوَعَظَ النَّاسَ وَأَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تَصَدَّقُوا ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ؛ فَإِنِّي أُرِيتُكُنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقُلْنَ وَبِمَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَمَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَدِينٍ أَذْهَبَ بِلُبِّ الرَّجُلِ الْحَازِمِ مِنْ إِحْدَاكُنَّ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ فَقُلْنَ لَهُ مَا نُقْصَانُ دِينِنَا وَعَقْلِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ شَهَادَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ مِثْلَ نِصْفِ شَهَادَةِ الرَّجُلِ؟ قُلْنَ بَلَى قَالَ فَذَلِكَ مِنْ نُقْصَانِ عَقْلِهَا أَوَ لَيْسَ إِذَا حَاضَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَمْ تُصَلِّ وَلَمْ تَصُمْ فَذَلِكَ مِنْ نُقْصَانِ دِينِهَا

[Machine] "That the Prophet ﷺ went out on the day of Eid and performed two units of prayer that he did not pray before or after. Then he came to the women with Bilal, and he commanded them to give charity. So the women began to throw their jewelry and ornaments, their word being equal."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَهَا وَلَا بَعْدَهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي خُرْصَهَا وَسِخَابَهَا لَفْظُهُمَا سَوَاءٌ

I observed prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the 'Id day. He commenced with prayer before the sermon without Adhan and Iqama. He then stood up leaning on Bilal, and he commanded (them) to be on guard (against evil for the sake of) Allah, and he exhorted (them) on obedience to Him, and he preached to the people and admonished them. He then walked on till he came to the women and preached to them and admonished them, and asked them to give alms, for most of them are the fuel for Hell. A woman having a dark spot on the cheek stood up and said: Why is it so, Messenger of Allah? He said: For you grumble often and show ingratitude to your spouse. And then they began to give alms out of their ornaments such as their earrings and rings which they threw on to the cloth of Bilal. (Using translation from Muslim 885b)

شَهِدْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ ثُمَّ قَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ فَأَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَحَثَّهُمْ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ وَوَعَظَهُمْ وَذَكَّرَهُمْ ثُمَّ مَضَى مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ حَتَّى أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَحَثَّهُنَّ عَلَى طَاعَتِهِ وَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ؛ فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ قَالَ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ مِنْ سَفِلَةِ النِّسَاءِ سَفْعَاءَ الْخَدَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ وَلِمَ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ فَجَعَلْنَ يَنْزِعَنَّ مِنْ قِرَطِهِنَّ وَقَلَائِدِهِنَّ وَخَوَاتِمِهِنَّ فَيَقْذِفْنَ فِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهِ

[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas saying, "I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray before the sermon on the day of Eid. Then he would deliver the sermon and notice that the women had not heard him. So he would approach them, remind and advise them, and command them to give charity. Bilal was with him, saying with his garment, 'Thus I have made the woman throw the gravel and the thing.'"

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ يَوْمَ الْعِيدِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ فَرَأَى أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعِ النِّسَاءَ فَأَتَاهُنَّ فَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ قَائِلًا بِثَوْبِهِ هَكَذَا فَجَعَلْتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخُرْصَ وَالشَّيْءَ

[Machine] I heard him say that the Prophet ﷺ stood on the day of Eid and prayed. He started praying before the sermon and then delivered the sermon to the people. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he descended and went to the women. He reminded them while leaning on Bilal's hand, and Bilal spread his garment and the women would throw their charity into it, totaling 6207. Abu Salih ibn Abi Tahir informed us that my grandfather Yahya ibn Mansur narrated to us, that Ahmad ibn Salamah narrated to us, that Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, that Abdul Razzaq mentioned it with a similar chain of narration. I asked Ata'ah, "Is the zakat of Eid day obligatory?" He said, "No, but it is a charity that they give at that time, the woman throws it and they throw it." I asked Ata'ah, "Do you think it is the right of the Imam now to come to the women when he is free and remind them?" He said, "By my life! Indeed, that is their right, and what is there for them not to do it?"

سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَامَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَصَلَّى فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ نَزَلَ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَهُوَ يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَى يَدِ بِلَالٍ وَبِلَالٌ بَاسِطٌ ثَوْبَهُ يُلْقِينَ فِيهِ النِّسَاءُ الصَّدَقَةَ 6207 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو صَالِحِ بْنُ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ أنبأ جَدِّي يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ فَذَكَرَهُ بِمِثْلِ إِسْنَادِهِ وَزَادَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ زَكَاةُ يَوْمِ الْفِطْرِ؟ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنَّهُ صَدَقَةٌ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهَا حِينَئِذٍ تُلْقِي الْمَرْأَةُ فَتَخَهَا وَيُلْقِينَ وَيُلْقِينَ قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ أَتَرَى حَقًّا عَلَى الْإِمَامِ الْآنَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ النِّسَاءَ حِينَ يَفْرُغَ فَيُذَكِّرُهُنَّ قَالَ أَيْ لَعَمْرِي إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَحَقٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يَفْعَلُونَ ذَلِكَ؟

[Machine] He witnessed the prayer with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on the day of Eid, so he began praying before the sermon without adhan or iqamah. Then he stood leaning on Bilal and addressed the people, praised and thanked Allah, advised and reminded them, and then continued standing leaning on Bilal and addressed the women, advised and reminded them, and said: "Give in charity, for indeed most of you are fuel for Hellfire." So a woman from the lower class of women stood up, with wide cheeks, and said, "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Because you complain excessively and are ungrateful to your husbands." So they started giving in charity from their rings, necklaces, and earrings, offering them to Bilal to give in charity.

أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ الصَّلَاةَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ بِلَا أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ ثُمَّ قَامَ مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَوَعَظَهُمْ وَذَكَّرَهُمْ وَمَضَى مُتَوَكِّئًا عَلَى بِلَالٍ فَأَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَذَكَّرَهُنَّ وَقَالَ تَصَدَّقْنَ؛ فَإِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُنَّ حَطَبُ جَهَنَّمَ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ سَفِلَةِ النِّسَاءِ سَفْعَاءُ الْخَدَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ إِنَّكُنَّ تُكْثِرْنَ الشَّكَاةَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ فَجَعَلْنَ يَتَصَدَّقْنَ مِنْ خَوَاتِمِهِنَّ وَقَلَائِدِهِنَّ وَأَقْلِبَتِهِنَّ يَعْطِينَهُ بِلَالًا يَتَصَدَّقْنَ بِهِ 6221

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ , that he went out on the day of Eid al-Fitr and prayed two units of prayer that he had not prayed before or after them. Then he came to the women, accompanied by Bilal, and commanded them to give charity. So a woman began to throw her earrings and her bracelets. Al-Bukhari narrated it in Sahih from Hajjaj ibn Minhal and others, except that in the narration of Hajjaj, he said that the woman began to throw her necklaces. Ahmad ibn Ubaid narrated it in his narration on the authority of someone other than him. And Muslim narrated it from various angles from Shu'bah.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ يَوْمَ الْفِطْرِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَمْ يُصَلِّ قَبْلَهَا وَلَا بَعْدَهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي خُرْصَهَا وَتُلْقِي سِخَابَهَا وَرَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ الْمِنْهَالِ وَغَيْرِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي رِوَايَةِ حَجَّاجٍ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي قُرْطَهَا وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ أَحَالَ رِوَايَتَهُ عَلَى رِوَايَةِ غَيْرِهِ وَأَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ

[Machine] I heard Ibn Abbas saying: "I bear witness to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or Ata' said: 'I bear witness to Ibn Abbas saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon after the prayer on the day of Eid, then he came to the women and thought that they had not heard him. Bilal was with him, so he advised them and commanded them to give charity. Then a woman threw her ring and earring, and Bilal took them in the edge of his garment.'" The wording of Hammad's hadith is mentioned in the narration of Shu'bah: "He went out on the day of Eid and prayed two units of prayer, then he delivered a sermon, then he came to the women and commanded them to give charity, and Bilal was with him, so they started throwing [their jewelry]."

سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ عَطَاءٌ أَشْهَدُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَطَبَ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُسْمِعْهُنَّ وَبِلَالٌ مَعَهُ فَوَعَظَهُنَّ وَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَجَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ تُلْقِي الْخَاتَمَ وَالْقُرْطَ وَبِلَالٌ يَأْخُذُ فِي نَاحِيَةِ ثَوْبِهِ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ حَمَّادٍ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ شُعْبَةَ خَرَجَ يَوْمَ فِطْرٍ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ خَطَبَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النِّسَاءَ فَأَمَرَهُنَّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَمَعَهُ بِلَالٌ فَجَعَلْنَ يُلْقِينَ

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْأَضْحَى أَوِ الْفِطْرِ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَلَّى ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَوَعَظَ النَّاسَ وَأَمَرَهُمْ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ تَصَدَّقُوا ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ تَصَدَّقْنَ فَإِنِّي رَأَيْتُكُنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَقُلْنَ وَلَمَ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ تُكْثِرْنَ اللَّعْنَ وَتَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَدِينٍ أَذْهَبُ لِلُبِّ الرَّجُلِ الْحَازِمِ مِنْكُنَّ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ فَقُلْنَ لَهُ وَمَا نُقْصَانُ عَقْلِنَا وَدِينِنَا؟ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ شَهَادَةُ الْمَرْأَةِ مِثْلُ نِصْفِ شَهَادَةُ الرَّجُلِ؟ قُلْنَ بَلَى قَالَ فَذَلِكَ مِنْ نُقْصَانِ عَقْلِهَا أَلَيْسَ إِذَا حَاضَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لَمْ تُصَلِّ وَلَمْ تَصُمْ؟ قُلْنَ بَلَى قَالَ فَذَلِكَ مِنْ نُقْصَانِ دِينِهَا

[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ in the story of fear, it is narrated that I saw the fire, and I have never seen a more horrific sight since that day. I saw most of its inhabitants were women. They asked, "What is the reason for that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Because of their disbelief." Someone asked, "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" He replied, "They disbelieve in good treatment. Even if you were to treat one of them well for a lifetime and she sees something bad from you, she would say, 'I have never seen any good from you.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي قِصَّةِ الْخَوْفِ فَأُرِيتُ النَّارَ فَلَمْ أَرَ كَالْيَوْمِ مَنْظَرًا أَفْظَعَ وَرَأَيْتُ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِهَا النِّسَاءَ قَالُوا بِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ بِكُفْرِهِنَّ قِيلَ أَيَكْفُرْنَ بِاللهِ ﷻ؟ قَالَ يَكْفُرْنَ الْعَشِيرَ وَيَكْفُرْنَ الْإِحْسَانَ لَوْ أَحْسَنْتَ إِلَى إِحْدَاهُنَّ الدَّهْرَ ثُمَّ رَأَتْ مِنْكَ شَيْئًا قَالَتْ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْكَ خَيْرًا قَطُّ

"مَا رَأَيتُ مِن نَاقِصَاتِ عَقْلٍ وَلَا دِينٍ أَغْلَبَ لَذِى لُبِّ مِنْكُنَّ: أَمَّا نُقْصَان الْعَقْل فَشَهَادَة امْرَأَتَينِ شَهَادَة رَجُلٍ، وَأَمَّا نُقْصَان الدِّين فَإِنَّ إِحْدَاكُنَّ تُفْطِرُ رَمَضَانَ، وَتُقيم أَيَّامًا لَا تُصَلِّي".
